One of my faves from the original 1-75 - along with perhaps the Removals van, Vauxhall Cresta, Morris Minor etc.

I don’t think I’ve ever had one of those little trucks with the crane still attached before. There can’t be many around that are complete still I wouldn’t have thought.

Those old 1 - 75’s do have a real charm about them somehow. They’re lovely little toys.
The Cresta is a nice one too, I think mines in that copper two tone colour.

As well as the slippery slope of various versions of the Matchbox, there's an M3 bodied Corgi Junior too

Corgi Juniors BMW

I think your little gold one is a Welly - I've picked up quite a few fairly terrible representations of the E30 over the years, I'll find some pics...

That style of Corgi E30, and its 1/36 bigger brother were my favourites. Even the more expensive Gama examples were way beneath them in terms of quality and finish.

I also have a really weird Hotwheels cabriolet version with a blue driver 🤷‍♂️

@bunglebus the super racer - I had one of those in a box as well. Didn’t know where it came from and was sold it on a few years ago.

Looking at your pics, it seems  I’ve a few more versions to find for my collection 👍

These Corgi Mobil collection bmws are well detailed.

With an opening sunroof and the correct flip bonnet.

The 1/36 were quite weighty things IIRC, the smaller one used to be one of those you collect at BP garage I think.

Didn't @danthecapriman have a huge Tyco matchbox?

That big Chevy Suburban fire department one?
I can’t find a pic of it now, but @Datsuncog got it for me from the market. It’s a bloody lovely model. Can’t remember how much it was now?

Edit; found it!

Jesus!

I definitely didn’t pay that. I’m sure it was a tenner I payed, possibly £15?

When I was little I had road mat for my toy cars.

It wasn’t one of those new fandangled ones though made out of carpet or whatever, it was like a thick polythene sheet with the roads and buildings all printed onto it.
Obviously it disintegrated many years ago but I’ve never seen one since, or even a picture of one. No idea who even made it.

Anyone else seen or remember them?

Matchbox did some in the late 70's like that ( village  sort of layout & I think an airport or docks),earlier ones were card with popup buildings ( farm, motorway & building site).

Mine was literally a thick polythene sheet with roads, buildings etc all printed onto it. No 3D bits at all. It could well have been Matchbox I suppose. I can’t find anything at all about them anywhere though.
I can’t imagine many are still around though, being polythene they’ve probably all fallen to bits by now and been binned.

My dad seems to think it was Matchbox though so maybe…

Mine was shiny card that slotted together, similar to this

Hmmm, I think I had a similar one. IIRC the card was fairly thick, and the lanes not much wider than the 1/64-ish cars? Sadly it hasn't survived, nor did the wider, thinner card Roadways/Roadmaker set I had. Have since bought a couple of boxed packs.

It's a real shame the Tomica Hypercity range is no longer sold here, that had a lovely set-up of roads and buildings. Master SL ended up with quite a bit, I don't this was all of it:

Tomica Hypercity

The Honda showroom is particularly nice.

This week's acquisitions, all I could find of interest from the new batch in Lidl and making use of the £5 5-packs in Tesco:

IMG_9818.JPG.68285b1d4ec22c5c7bf39e872fbd94f4.JPG

Already have one of the Nissan sets, but surely worth getting another for the sake of a fiver? Maybe I'll crack it open and have a play....

300ZX was the main item of interest in the other pack, but the Mustang is particularly nice with sensible-sized wheels.

Also, in having a sort-out last weekend I found that I have all these as duplicates:

IMG_9819.JPG.8b2b2480505939ac0aac330656de5895.JPG

I don't have the energy to start a proper for sale thread at present (although I probably should), but is there any interest in any of these at £1.50 each?

I'm still on the lookout for the Group B set but Smythes don't offer free postage now.

I had one similar to this from the Early Learning Centre. Not exactly the same as it was printed in grey and some of the pieces were different shapes, but the tab and slot assembly system looks very similar. Spent many hours building different layouts with it on a large piece of cardboard on the living room floor.

Here we go, three of a kind. I think Hot Wheels did it first, followed by Johnny Lightning, with Corgi bringing up the rear.

Twin engined Beetles were certainly a popular idea in the 70s, even if they couldn't possibly have actually worked in the real world.

PXL_20240322_185723165.jpg.0e7673a136cacacfc2219b3a274ed2e6.jpgPXL_20240322_185749391.jpg.44a81df7ff32622e7223576b60a0f811.jpg

And the modern version of the JL. It's completely different.

PXL_20240322_185816915.jpg.6fe6dde958c262307cedc953ddcb1a61.jpgPXL_20240322_185829704.jpg.07a0e1028075535cc87a16dfb8fc901c.jpg

Quite different

I wonder how the Hot Wheels Real Riders retool compares side by side.  Quite similar I reckon, they even reproduced both the sunroof and non-sunroof castings

IMG_0056.jpeg.462f62d1d3121e4abe16932b954790a1.jpegIMG_0058.jpeg.2af1edf12da084c3d259c65a7ef9784b.jpegIMG_0055.jpeg.fae9feb1cf1c14a7ffe73c634ba2ee65.jpeg

Notice the roof driver names ‘R Adler’ and ‘J Ludwig’.  Someone must have got a pay rise as Ray Adler is Vice President at Mattel, while John Ludwig was the Senior Marketing Exec that set up the Neo Classics ranges that incorporate Anniversary series, Collectables etc

Oohhh I had that.  I remember Bus Stop and the Give Way triangle sign at the junction, when I had no idea what that meant

Must have been a cut-down set as there was no car park in mine

Currently for sale here (but not cheap!):

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/354917947701

Came as part of the Corgitronics Leyland truck set, which IIRC had a couple of interchangeable covers for the rear trailer and a clicker thing, to make it turn, or something.

Certainly, I remember playing with the mat and truck (both my older brother's), with Yorkie liveried box on the back and although the clicker still existed, it was long defunct.

Had one of those Leyland Yorkietronic sets a while back

IMG-0064.jpg

In the box was this

Waited until the wife went to bed and took advantage of the kitchen floor

Then the wife walked in looking for Paracetamol, saw what was going on and lost it

May have been a Husky roadmat.

That was definitely made from thick poly with a foam backing IIRC.

Been to two boot sales this morning. VW nemesis turned up at the second one and somehow netted a box of around 20 mint looking 70s Matchbox and a few Corgis for a bloody fiver, he did give me the Derek Fiske Corgi Rockets out of it for free when I mentioned it was one I didn't have.

I think I got some bargains too, but it did mean having to buy several large bags of cars as a lot

PXL_20240324_1222539272.jpg.920f1568fd4b40303c3727c9d3f12014.jpg

Almost all of those were in the bags, with a couple of loose ones from elsewhere plus some boxed Superfasts for a fair price...

ANOTHER Leyland MX...?

I don't know how you do it

The Car Boots around here are just rained-on stolen hifi, piles of knock-off trainers, trashed Dyson hoovers and everyone speaks broken English with a south eastern-European accent
