I like those! I’ve got the early blue one and later orange one with tyres but can’t say I’ve ever seen a red one.

The mechanism is lovely, they survive remarkably well

Husky S&D Refuse Van

I only have the blue, does the much newer Corgi use a modified version of the same thing?

Here’s my orange one.
Identical to the original blue version other than having the tyre’d wheels. Although I’m sure some of the orange ones are branded Husky, others are Corgi. Can’t remember which mine is. The orange one must have been released right around the same time as the Corgi Jr’s rebrand.

Today's find is this common and really unremarkable Husky Bin lorry.

The fact is,this little cheap playworn model has survived since the 1960s intact makes it rather endearing really.

I rather like the stuff that's been played with & loved.

The mint stuff is nice but lacks character somehow IMO.

@Datsuncog If you come across a reasonably priced Volvo FH series lorry in any condition I would be interested.

Thanks for the tat Friday post as always.

Will do - I know Corgi produced a few decent FH models in 1/50, though I think they were mostly Mk2 versions. Will keep an eye out!

You're probably right that it's a Bakewell slice - nothing's labelled in the cafe, so it's just as much of a surprise as the Tat Boxes...

Seemingly I thrive on chaos.

The RS200 was the one I really wanted but the Cuda is pretty cool too. The others I'm not fussed about so if anyone @Spottedlaurel wants them, hit me up before they go on eBay tomorrow

Fun fact:the RS200 in  the film is actually a kitcar from RS Automotive...

I had an unusual encounter while buying those Hot Wheels in BuM yesterday - the lady on the till started asking me questions about Hot Wheels, because she knew a great deal about them, who originally came up with them, all about the original 16 cars from 1968 etc etc. Not what you expect in a general retailer that's for sure! I would have liked to talk for longer but I was already many hours behind when I wanted to start making my way back, and had just had a call to say I had to go back to the job I thought I was done with, to complete one more task. Ended up back home at about midnight in the end

Turns out I already have the Tacoma, and I knew the Civic was a duplicate. They had a mix of short cards in the box on the shelf, then long cards in a wire bin. Don't recall seeing the Jeep before.

A royal theme to Oxford Diecast's latest castings in 1/76, Lady Diana's Metro and one of the Queen's P5s.

Not sure what Oxford were thinking with the headlights on the Metro but they look crap. A couple of minutes with a silver pen soon has them looking far better.

I've also changed the reg to represent the one my mum had that was almost identical to Diana's. It was so good we owned it twice: sold to a friend and then bought back when they finished with it, and also got crashed into by the only roadworthy Allegro convertible.

Overall it has been quite enjoyable with not to much decal cracking. Some of the decals are not sized correctly so the livery is slightly off when compared to the actual car, but then most race livered diecast have mistakes small and large. These are a good representation of the real thing.

They are now all boxed up and ready to go to their new owners when I list them on every ones favourite auction site.

Making steady progress on the 240ZG kit:

IMG_9481.thumb.JPG.4603950e6d4785a091258600c939f91a.JPG

I'm using this simple kit as a testbed for a few things. First one being the colours, interior is Tamiya light pearl red (basically a metallic salmon pink, similar to the late '90s Toyota colour). I've added flat clear to knock back the shine and it'll be getting some light grey carpet/fabric areas plus the usual detailing.

IMG_9473.thumb.JPG.fb5304b10a835a30676227529b2d7ffa.JPG

IMG_9480.thumb.JPG.a14b90abea919c48f310666e5ad9b637.JPG

Added pearl clear to the lavender solid paint, neither of which I'd used before. Gives it a different look to a metallic like Ford purple velvet, should have a funky sparkle in the susnshine.

IMG_9486.thumb.JPG.d2129049eaedafebf996e5d092e6cdb1.JPG

IMG_9490.thumb.JPG.9d6aa0f4a0385b8c585051f53a60fc2e.JPG

Have now added Mr Hobby gloss clear as I wasn't 100% sure about polishing the pearl clear. With a final wet coat it already looks good, hopefully it won't need too much of a polish once it's properly dried out.

That's looking very much like Rover Amaranth, which is a great colour. Here's my Amaranth ERF for comparison.

State of play with the AEC project - getting there!

Ignore the bit of plastic under the cab! It’s just there to keep the cab level.
The tipper body was looking a bit plain on the cab end so I’ve drilled a few holes to take some wire footsteps for load sheeting or whatever.
Chassis has had the rear bumper added with tail lights and number plate, then air tanks added to one side.
Cab has had filler, rub down, filler, rub down etc etc. still needs a few minor tweaks. Although I’m not going to faff too much as most of the back wall is hidden behind the tipper!
Interior has had a little wire gearstick added.
Then a couple of coats of primer.

Im pleased with how it’s turning out tbh. It’s got that heavy duty look about it that tippers usually do.
All I’m waiting for is some larger diameter plastic tube I’ve ordered to make a fuel tank out of for the other side, then the chassis can be primed.

In the meantime while I’m waiting I’ve been looking at a few other projects…

Both Dinky cabs in 1:43 size (or near as damn it!).

The D series is probably going to become a cement mixer. The Bedford, probably a short tipper or maybe a gritter!

I'd be surprised if you could get any Rover colours from Halfords now. I last went there around 2021 and they were vastly reducing their paint range then.

Didn't help that the neighbour popped round just as we were leaving, and nattered for flippin' ages.

There was quite a lot of choice but some of the prices were nuts, this guy had a lot of Dinkys but when I grouped 5 of them up he wanted £70, all were complete but overpainted and in need of restoration

Pretty sure they had some when I called into the Lowestoft branch just after Christmas. Ford 'signal' colours were available too.

Holding them side-by-side it's not too far off the purple on the latest HWs Datsun 510 wagon and Skyline RS.

Ford also did a metallic purple in the '00s, I've seen it on a Fusion like this:

Not sure the name of that one - is it also purple velvet?

Yesterday, the missus handed me this,

As a super-fan of the drama series Auf Wiedersehen, Pet (see profile pic),  this caused much excitement, as I knew they'd recently done a re-release on these.,IMG_20240210_224315.thumb.jpg.576b48435295f7033f12c7285237e986.jpg

Yay! Another TV/film vehicle for the collection. The 1/43 version of the Bedford HA van as driven in series 2 by one Barry Spencer Taylor, ace electrician, prince of trivia, and one-time Wolverhampton and District Sunday Methodist table-tennis champion (mixed doubles)

IMG_20240210_224510.thumb.jpg.8f708d5505d3e2172f655108a4ef9733.jpg

The first release some years ago sold out straight away and has commanded high prices since. However in a commendable (and rare) example of a model company listening to requests, Oxford announced two more short runs last week, (which also sold out in less than a day), and unbeknown to me, the missus had put herself on Oxfords mailing list and got one ordered as soon as she got the email to say they were in stock, bless her.

So, yeah, the Oxford HA has come in for a bit of criticism regards proportions, detail, etc. But screw it, it's still a HA van, it's a fairly old casting now, and no bugger else makes one. To my eyes, it's not that far off anyway, seeing as the real life vehicle looks like it was designed on an Etch-a-Sketch...

IMG_20240210_224633.thumb.jpg.081647d2bc0004e4fd6c03b0b8903cee.jpg

I suppose the main fault with this version is that it's not weathered, like the real film vehicle was, but at the price that Oxford knocks these out at, its probably not possible. At least the blue lower half is done in a semi-matt finish so it doesn't look too new and shiny.

IMG_20240210_230348.thumb.jpg.b45de73c3137e439c21f541670b4fdca.jpg

IMG_20240210_224757.thumb.jpg.a6d741d70cd36a1066ec2f445e35d8ce.jpg

And the font on the signwriting is fairly faithful, including the off-centre "B Taylor" where it had been hastily painted over the original owners name. The ladder is a nice touch as well, as is the painted brightwork on the windows, takes away the cheapness somehow.

IMG_20240210_230253.thumb.jpg.aab8aa9cf12793ade350a54e6293cfd9.jpg

Main point of criticism among collectors on the HA seems to be on the headlights, which to be fair, look like they were taken from a slightly startled Foden S80. Grille and badging are pretty decent, although Barry's van did have the later black grille.

IMG_20240210_224725.thumb.jpg.afa0097bac2f41247ac3956c52983e43.jpg

Back end detailing, such as it is, isn't bad either. Earlier badge again though.

IMG_20240210_224817.thumb.jpg.1a44f944e681cda0da751645e38ffca7.jpg

All the same as a massive fan of the programme, I'm happy to finally have one of these, would have been nice if they'd done Dennis's VW T2 in 1/43 to go with it. (They did do it in1/76 though)

What do you reckon Barry?

Not seen this version before, from a set maybe?

This was a good spot by the Mrs - I held up two of these green buggies and started to say about some having 12 louvres rather than 13, when she pointed out this one has a red interior while the other was the usual orange. Didn't even know there were two colours

Nice one! And you're right about the similarity to the Rover colour - that's one to look out for when I next visit Halfords....

I'd be surprised if you could get any Rover colours from Halfords now. I last went there around 2021 and they were vastly reducing their paint range then.

That's a great idea - I've been trying to find a lighter purple than the ubiquitous Ford Purple Velvet

My local Halford used to mix any colour you wanted in an aerosol, I've not asked in the last 10 years if they still do it.

Recently I have just gone to a local auto paint supplier to get colours mixed up in spray cans.

The AEC is bloody mega. Great job, really great job.

Cheers!👍

It’s taken much longer than I thought, and been much more work than I thought too. But, it’s been a pleasure to build really. It’s been some time since I’ve done a project like that and it’s nice to get back into it and do something constructive. Some people do brain exercises like sudoku… I, apparently, build little trucks to keep the grey matter working!

This pile of shit donor vehicle arrived the other day too! For a second build! This one’s in worse condition than the other one.

image.thumb.jpg.9729b956d13432591eea058e60b961ef.jpg
Maybe not for a little while though😆

While I’m waiting on the fuel tank material to arrive I started on the Ford F150 project.
This one was from the Argentina partwork, and started out as a military ambulance.
IMG_3260.thumb.jpeg.d0249af5f8cfd02f3ff45a1df425b6ad.jpeg

I stripped it down a while back and the box body went off for another shiters project.
This is what I’m aiming for. A utility bed.
IMG_3264.jpeg.8b8ced1f4f8b3ab53a31782009f327af.jpeg

Again. Rear body made entirely from plastic card and styrene sections. All built onto the original chassis.

Piece of piss to build really! A few pics from Google as a reference and away you go.
Just left it like this now overnight for the glue to go off, then I’ll make the tops for the side cabinets/lockers, some fake doors for them too.

Does anyone know a bit about Dinky Toys 25 series trucks? I see they ran from 25a to 25e and the initial run was prewar. I can't quite work out which years each type were produced.

Anyone?

I've got a few pre-war Dinky lorries and some of the post-war re-issues (1940s).  The main differences are in the casting of the underside e.g. whether partially open (mostly pre-war and or immediate post war issues) or mostly covered in on slightly later post war issues, together with a front bumper.   The link has some details. https://www.maronline.org.uk/dinky-toys-series-25-lorries/.

Values have varied hugely. I bought all of mine for 3d each in 1960 at a shop which sold a few every so often in Southsea where we lived at the time. Values (playworn) climbed to around £40 each in the late 1970s then gradually faded until the ebay era when most playworn examples were less than £10.  Optimists selling repainted and repaired examples in a reprinted replica box asked for lots more but sales are usually very slow.

As mentioned previously, this thread and our young lad have channelled my previous interest in diecast (which was on hiatus from late teens until a couple of years ago) and also opened my eyes to diecast which I previously knew nothing about.

Recently, I started researching and looking at 1940s Dinky Toys 25 series trucks and decided I ideally wanted one the same age as my father (born in the late 40s). After looking at a lot of battered shite and overpriced minters, I bagged this 25b truck this evening. It was a hospice ebay seller so I like to think my £15 is going to help someone in need. I also wonder if the model came from a deceased estate of a former cancer sufferer? They're selling several other Dinky diecast of the same late 40s/early 50s era.

Screenshot_20240211_190204_eBay.thumb.jpg.5223422b0bdfdd5f27e6cd62ba96d1d9.jpg

The model is a 25b which looks to be 'late 1940s'. Close enough - is there any other way of telling?

Screenshot_20240211_191041_Chrome.thumb.jpg.f2c365d99c1642a7e9b398c2f0c7104f.jpg

To my eye,  I'm guessing it's original and correct in the photos apart from a missing speed sticker on the tailboard. Are these available as repro items? The intact canopy is a nice detail and was one of the reasons I bid on it. Should it be identical to body colour though?

Edit: This 25b which is for sale for £100 also has a colour mismatch on the canopy vs body. I reckon it's due to the paint ageing differently on the two different metal types?

Screenshot_20240211_192841_eBay.thumb.jpg.f117992e1d5544ecafc222e3ed8def1b.jpg

I'm really looking forward to this one landing on the mat - the fact it's at least 75 years young adds to the charm for me.

I'll update the thread when it arrives!

Edit again:

I've just looked at the baseplate photos of my 25b vs the £100 green 25b on ebay. Mine has 'Liverpool' as place of manufacture whereas the green one has 'England'. I wonder when in the late 40s they changed over? That'll definitely make  mine the earlier end of the late 40s anyway... @RayMK any ideas?
