I also checked out Cash Converters earlier when I was passing, just in case someone had chopped in another load of boxed early 70s Lesney for £not much.

I was similarly disappointed.

I can't wait to see if anyone stumps up £4 a go for literally the same Hot Wheels case selection that the B&M store right are across the road are knocking out for £1.69.

Plenty o' bargains* to be had, with their 1/24 Dangleberry Mint Chevelle, still unsold after all this time.

IMG_20240111_1256132.thumb.jpg.b0878b2e42143ec31592a055b63bc0be.jpg

Didn't that price sticker used to have an extra digit?

I'm also just noticing that the (replacement) price sticker says 'remote control car' on it...

De Gaulle DS partwork model seemed comparatively good value at a tenner, but I felt I could live without it.

IMG_20240111_1256192.thumb.jpg.a0c0b44b49a6acd0f9a85d3d71b4f7b4.jpg

A jackpot of sorts was struck, though...

IMG_20240111_1810092.thumb.jpg.db36ee9c7a5564d1e3674160ec00a12c.jpg

I breezed into The Entertainer to find this solitary Team Transport set just sittin' all on its lonesome on a shelf. No price or anything; it seems the Hot Wheels bay was being reprofiled from its Christmas planogram, and seemingly there was no place for this racing P6 and its irksomely generic hauler.

Well, I can help with that.

I was kinda hoping that maybe it was extra reduced to clear, or maybe they'd pay me to take it away, but no - it was back up to full whack. £19.

Still, Carpe Diem and all that.

I really do like this set, even though I don't know why.

I'll pop it out of its packaging later on...

Funny enough I've been thinking about removing the majority of my premium stuff from their plastic prisons and displaying them, with a few exceptions they're pretty common and probably aren't going to increase in value as so many will be squirrelled away untouched.

It would also help me with my current storage crisis, I really don't have room for any more storage boxes and a few things have ended up sat in a pile in front of them as they're all full. Obviously I won't be freeing any chase cars or sought-after versions, but I might as well enjoy looking at them, having bought the damn things!

I fluctuate between keeping things packaged for way longer than I should, and tearing them open like a giddy idiot.

Guess which impulse won out this evening?

It is Tat Friday, indeed!

I didn't see the Nemesismobile parked outside this morning, but he was in bright and early also.

And there were more new tubs.

IMG_20240112_0744192.thumb.jpg.72ce9d76a86000d08cdedd52cedfe2ab.jpg

That's right.

1/24 Bburago Quattro had sadly lost its snout, more's the pity.

IMG_20240112_0821002.thumb.jpg.7ce3bb4966e16266a0b78c1e90b866b1.jpg

Super Kings Ford tanker similarly lacking a vital axle.

IMG_20240112_0758142.thumb.jpg.07df041c8584b100abdaec351d3185ae.jpg

DAF Transporters had a bit of shonk going on too.

Budgie Leyland horse transporter was probably ok before someone went at it with the Hunbrols.

King Size Hoveringham Foden just suffering some paint wear and axle shrinkage, but otherwise not bad.

I'd be interested in the Majorette Mercedes fire appliance if the squirter thing on the roof is still there, which it looks to be, and it's fairly cheap. I think mine might have gone AWOL.

Any other intact 1970s/80s Majorettes would be good please....

THREE Matchbox Super Kings Jaguars.  Unusual.

More boxes behind the stall too, though definitely containing some previously-seen items.

E36 Touring is unusual, though not quite a stunning casting.

IMG_20240112_0818552.thumb.jpg.383a263cf92401eff337df6a4d98d68d.jpg

Plenty of hokey-hokey action, but once again it's a surfeit of MoYs and Lledos in here.

Incomplete Maserati we've seen before.

Big Majorette Saviem quite jolly for a fiver - complete, too (though one mirror's hanging on by a thread)

IMG_20240112_0745282.thumb.jpg.95683060668d5b9022a5aeb14d6c8d80.jpg

IMG_20240112_0745522.thumb.jpg.e0b9dc322f8bfda256947f471d5a738a.jpg

Well, most of their wheels.

Dates track - wonder if this was something Corgi did after buying Lledo, to lend another casting to a range they were already thinking of canning?

IMG_20240112_0755432.thumb.jpg.02daa809df6af929c4bcd264f362353c.jpg

Sad in a way that someone's gone to the trouble of marking out the OMG Limited Edition status on the box.

Similarly...

Someone once went to the trouble of labelling all these rubbishy 1980s 'classic cars' given away with Reader's Digest.

No doubt in the expectation of achieving great value* for their children/ grandchildren one day...

Ah now.

Rip 'em open and enjoy 'em now, kids.

More tinplate up top, today.

Not so much my bag, but some jolly-looking items nonetheless.

Dealer-box Octavia (Schuco?) was actually alright, though the case is fairly scratched up.

IMG_20240112_0800012.thumb.jpg.c6f3030971af1e8a600ea49ebfcd7c05.jpg

Border around the base is a nice touch.

IMG_20240112_0800162.thumb.jpg.3cd24d44e181725127fc7fc19c1aae76.jpg

Odd not-Majorettes also to be found:

IMG_20240112_0758552.thumb.jpg.a962903a4dce90b18d1ca36c70589ba0.jpg

Hmm. Marked 'Made in China', these do not appear to be actual Majorette models.

IMG_20240112_0759132.thumb.jpg.e767bbb772d430a620cd85c28fe3d7d6.jpg

And there were two identical boxes here, so it's not like someone swopped them out of the box. I know Majorette did do another fairly charmless set of Cadburys vans which seemed to hang around pharmacies for years (involving a Ford Cargo Tanker, Model A Van, and Ford Econoline amongst others) but this particular set hasn't come under my notice before.

Cheapo Lledos and the like on offer at £2 a go...

IMG_20240112_0758242.thumb.jpg.3c4fa14cdeea095910da6e9900e2c268.jpg

And I was so nearly going to go for this, another apparent fruit of Corgi's buyout of Lledo in the early 2000s...

IMG_20240112_0758292.thumb.jpg.a75b5d876f2877893f84a31dfe82fe5e.jpg

...but literally as I moved to pick it up, a fella I recognised as one of the butchers from the far end of the market swooped in first and nabbed it, plus another Days Gone twin pack.

I haven't come this far on Tat Friday to get involved in a fight with a man holding a load of sharp knives, over a Days Gone...

This milk float seemed to have had a rough time of it, wherever it was stored...

IMG_20240112_0819192.thumb.jpg.9c91b8b7d65641b42bd8581de0982568.jpg

The Nemesis' haul wasn't very spectacular, but he seemed happy enough.

IMG_20240112_0756132.thumb.jpg.92185c33925cd9e915fc7628f6bbe5d9.jpg

After last-week's wallet-busting tinplate Mercfest, I can understand why.

Cylinder-less cement truck is by Joal, not Dinky.

A quick spin round the other stalls revealed more giffer-tat of indeterminate price, interspersed with genuine* Fabergé Eggs...

IMG_20240112_0830132.thumb.jpg.43e7ac2a335d99061da9745e412892af.jpg

Minx was quite nice, to be fair. But probably priced the same as a real Fabergé Egg.

Plus rather more of this sort of thing than we'd ideally like:

IMG_20240112_0831042.thumb.jpg.93158ca865b9371c94cecdd5d38d059a.jpg

Yeah, no.

Someone thought they were being SUCCESSFUL BUSINESSMAN YO by snapping up a load of Market Blokey's £1 models to flip at twice the price; a cunning strategy, true, but one rather undermined by the fact he still has several boxes of exactly the same sort of shit on offer for a quid.

And he's only two stalls down.

Interested in seeing how this one pans out.

The Charity Stall did tantalise from afar...

IMG_20240112_0828312.thumb.jpg.cf2c42b7c1958264f05cd1315fa11d75.jpg

But nah.

IMG_20240112_0828362.thumb.jpg.b1b7e7c594272fed6a76f0e7f846e52e.jpg

Although I could have had a signed Brian Kennedy CD for 50p.

IMG_20240112_0828462.thumb.jpg.a50461d2b03f500d7ff4261ace227cde.jpg

Time to regroup with some sore-needed sustenance, then, and hastily edit some pics...

Two things arrived from postie man this morning, both 60s commercials and so ugly that they're beautiful.

First up, Lone Star 23 window deluxe. Sure, I have a handful of these but they're just so nice, I really think LS deserved to have been more successful with these early castings

Just a single missing eye and a barely perceptible stress line in the sunroof glazing. Base is a little odd, all my others have either got the bent out tabs, a rivet or a screw depending on when it was made. This has what looks like a rivet/screw base but the body is the tab type.

Next up is this gorgeous Siku Taunus Transit

Forgot to mention, Alan had just finished setting out his famed 50p Tray at the point I was exiting the market (for the second time):

IMG_20240112_0919452.thumb.jpg.b61d48cfcfe0390f3429d07a7514baef.jpg

Not much to get in a flap about, sadly - other than two non-matching Matchbox Connectables:

IMG_20240112_0921272.thumb.jpg.d567bfc42c585d0ff08763eec00d1703.jpg

Oh well.

Which was maybe just as well, since I'd already lost my last pound coin - fumbling my change from the coffee shop, I dropped the coin, then watched as it scooted off on its edge with startling velocity.

After rolling nearly the entire length of the market, it came into contact with the shoe of an old biddy shuffling the other way, sending it spinning back down towards me...  at which point it glanced off someone else's shoe, and vanished under a stall selling movie posters.

I poked around but couldn't see it.

Annoying, as I'd vaguely thought of picking this up from the charity stall...

IMG_20240112_0828363.thumb.jpg.cfbcfb8dd063ca8fcb2d24e142b83eaf.jpg

But then, the original's probably better anyway.
