Seeing those boxes gives me a warm glow, it reminds me of being a kid and going down the shops with my mum on a Saturday, it was a bit of a routine, we’d go to the Bakers Oven for a Sausage Roll, do the shopping and if I’d behaved myself I could pick a Matchbox from Toymaster. Then we’d go back home and I’d have the A-Team on the television, spending the entire afternoon playing with whatever I’d bought.

I’d have read through the catalogue seeing what I wanted but Superkings etc were well into birthday money so I’d only be catching the lag of this by finding them at jumble sales etc. I’m going to sound like a right misery here but it was better before we had the internet, come Christmas time (that actually only started on Dec the 1st) the Argos catalogue would come round and I’d be circling the options, you’d have a budget so £20 from my grandma or whatever. We didn’t have this information overload we have now.

I like the white 'deb' truck.

There was a story behind that one, hire van broke down on the way home from a job in Scotland so I went for a wander into the town and found an antiques shop with a fair few diecast goodies. I bought that and a Bacardi Land Rover set, both with years of scuzz from being on display

Matchbox Bacardi Rum Sports Boat and Jeep

Cleaned up OK - funny looking Jeep though

Never one to miss an opportunity, a breakdown in a small Scottish town means time to explore. Junk shop has many Days Gone and £10 buses if that's anyone's bag

There are a few interesting things, not quite sure I want to spend £5 on this boxed Land Rover set

Transporter and cargo are tidy but I didn't ask the price. Did find one item with no sticker and scored it for what I had in mind. I'll be here a little while if anyone sees anything they need...

Dinky Range Rover is a repaint, but quite a good one.  MB SpeedKings Mercury is original, as far as I can tell, and only lightly playworn.  RR has gone straight into a cabinet; Mercury is in my project box but I might yet move it.  I'm in the process of painting another one that arrived drilled-apart without most of its paint.  Might be nice to have one original and one painted, side by side.

I lived exactly the same childhood but perhaps a few years earlier. Replace the grid Matchbox with an older Superfast or a Corgi Juniors and that's me.

The only thing I can't remember is why I very occasionally got a Superkings from Woolworths when it wasn't my birthday.

Good memories.

Me too, but more than a few years earlier!  Matchbox cars were two shillings when I was little, which coincidentally was my pocket money.  We had a little toyshop around the corner too.  Those were the days!  When the mk3 Zephyr and 105E Anglia were current, both full-size and in MB's range.

Matchbox mobile canteen custom. There's a bit of a tale behind this one, acquired from @vulgalour a while ago. I wanted to keep the colour scheme but it needed a repaint so I stripped it, then painted it Humbrol orange. That stayed tacky for literally an entire week, then dried to a rubbery texture that scraped off with the slightest touch. That waste of a week made me annoyed with it so it got put aside. Another go with an aerosol (Ford Signal Orange) produced a paint finish that stayed on, then the grey was applied with Humbrol that actually functioned as paint, and the transfers are an old Mabex set acquired from a friend.

This one’s in better condition than the last one. Though it does look like old Fred’s had an unfortunate blow out and face planted the windscreen!

I've been after a Ka hatchback model for a long time but they dont seem to surface for me. This one is not an example I have seen before, trust @bunglebus to find it!

I had the laser wheels 9000 as a kid and my brother had the burgundy one, now both just dust in the wind. So it's great to have one again. Right from Matchbox's best era of metal baseplates, which only seemed to last for a couple of years.

I don’t know how I keep ending up with so many Police Cars, I thought the XJ was a Corgi XJ-C in the quality photos, didn’t know that a Superkings 4 dr existed- nice surprise. Likewise the SLC, I thought it was a small Matchbox. Seems I’m collecting Superkings now😊

Bunglebox makes a total of eight little cars arriving today, plus a card from the PO telling me there's "something" there with no/insufficient postage on it, which I need to pay to collect.  Chances are that's the four-item order I've been awaiting from ebay...

Thanks Rich :)

The problem with selling stuff is it leaves tempting funds in PayPal. I really wanted this when it came out but there was no chance of seeing it in the shops.

The 240 is quite disappointing for a semi-premium, but the other two make up for it.

Those are just lovely - I still live in hope of finding a Husky or skinny-Whizzwheels-era Ro80 or Interceptor someday, as I've only ever owned later versions with bigger wheels which just aren't as nice, IMHO.

Both of those sound interesting too! I was having a good old study of the Ka tonight, it's a jolly nice wee thing and is going to display very well indeed.

I just gave away a Ka to a charity shop thinking it worthless

Took a look back and the nearest it was is the ERTL 1:34.  It was in a beige with brown swirly accent
