Annoyingly you can't buy this square plate, only the oblong

Staying with Binns Rd products then, here's another Dinky - the Mercedes 250SE with bonus electrickery:

IMG_20231013_1119312.thumb.jpg.ba1c771fc080a0e30d9e4df6d9274eb2.jpg

Slightly chonky body to accommodate all the gubbins, but not in too much of a state.

Battery cover is missing, as per usual, and the superficially corroded baseplate shows evidence of a bit of battery leakage at some point.

IMG_20231013_1119492.thumb.jpg.83d10f971ddd6cc52b443b511fb6531b.jpg

No evidence of working stop lights yet, but since the Duracell within has an expiry date of March 1997, I'd say that's to be expected.

As mentioned by others there was no battery cover on these. I would fit an AA instead off a AAA to get the lights working.

That Benz below looks like it still has the 3-pointed star on the grille.

A few of the old, loose items had found their way up top onto the main stall:

Although, since two of them were simply rougher versions of the ones I'd picked up earlier, they didn't really tempt me much...

Sure thing! I'll pop them in with your others, no bother!

If you want me to send you some wonga over for them let me know, it’s easier at the moment if you could keep them with you for a bit if that’s ok? (with moving house and all!) I’m just aware you’ve spent money on these and might want it back asap!
Just let me know if you do.

Thanks.

Not a ringer, just same owner

In Germany, the number plate is registered to the car’s owner rather than the car itself. So when you sell a car, you take the number plate with you and transfer it to your next car.

So did Wolfgang Shonkenstrieder own the VW first or not?  Was it an upgrade or downgrade I wonder?

Wolfgang changed his cars more often than HMC on this forum...

I know some of you are reluctant to be dragged onto the 21st century, but Facebook does come in handy for seeing weird and wonderful diecasts from all over the world.

This one was slightly odd, a lady posted a picture on a Matchbox group saying she'd found a few cars in her relative's loft

She'd never posted in the group before and didn't seem to be offering them for sale, but nothing ventured nothing gained - and she didn't live far away

Here’s an update on the £2.50 Corgis I got the other day, this is they when brought home...

IMG_7744.JPG

The Bedford Carrimore has been stripped off and awaiting paint...

The Chipperfields crane I have now finished restoring as much as I’m going to and I’m super pleased with it!

IMG_7857.thumb.JPG.93c274c2d87edf607f1da69d72bbdf94.JPG

Most of the over painting came off with a cloth dipped in cellulose thinners, I could probably get every last bit off, but I’m happy with the effect. When I was a kid I would occasionally see the big heavy Scammell 6x4 (I think) trucks crawling along making that low gear whining noise. They were always really weathered and worn with patina that this toy really reminds me of so I’m keeping it like this and yes I know it’s not a Scammell. I could fairly easily replace the broken windows as they’re flat, but again I don’t mind them so it’s staying like that. The jib is staying a bit bent and rusty too.

IMG_7858.thumb.JPG.2e22d2b4f3194d68d589f04d25f78eb1.JPG

Other broken bits I’ve fixed on the cheap. The spring to stop the hook rolling in and out was bent out of shape so I straightened that and re located it, also found the string was still wound on the spindle so I threaded it along the jib. The crank handle was bent so it got a tweek with the pliers. The ratchet thing that holds the jib in position is available from Steve Flowers but as a budget build I made one using some aluminium sheet glued to a bit of bent wire. It needs fine tuning as the lower cut outs (where the jib is high) are just a bit too wide. The hook was made from a screw hook with a small washer glued to it and a card box around it with the whole painted silver. I think the overall effect is ok.

IMG_7859.thumb.JPG.53408757903ed25df2f103a7c6936eca.JPG

Now I’m keen to renovate or at least clean the waterlogged Chipperfields Land Rover I got from 155V6

IMG_7860.thumb.JPG.a3dd72484359748758f3fc8b5b5ab9bb.JPG

Next the Elan seen here with the one I got from 155V6 most of the Humbrol cleaned off with cloth dipped in cellulose thinners.

IMG_7861.thumb.JPG.a926dc6e15dc93ee2e74dd3dc60470eb.JPG

I have a spare repro screen ready to go on, but I would like a white Elan and the other blue one is much nicer so I’m going to paint this white when I get time.

IMG_7862.thumb.JPG.eb9af3c6f7de81b467a81d7ab0ef8e6c.JPG

Both still have the Esso tiger slogan stickers

*the Matchbox VW just got a wash and then was installed in the summer house as is.

Chipperfields crane looks great 🙂.Just as well I'm really not collecting Circus models,as it would go really well with the Scammell I got from the lot I picked up for @barrett.

This was filthy when I got it,but looks a bit cleaner now20231012_193951.thumb.jpg.d28c54fec19cd0c9001f0ab708b09204.jpg

To my surprise, most of the animals were still with it20231012_194220.thumb.jpg.9c7b0654e5962d3881284acf9b0b8992.jpg

20231012_194224.thumb.jpg.3e5435f3dfc392de3bc3182761ab6e2f.jpg

Tiger looked a bit lonely,so I had a look in the spare tiger box,& found this German shepherd in a tiger suit,it'll do for now20231012_194304.thumb.jpg.65975520dcbf6f0704d8dc345998fa99.jpg

The sliding sides for the cages are bowed or cracked,so I'll order some replacements from Steve Flowers when I get round to it.

I'm definitely not collecting Corgi circus models though.

This is the Berliet human cannonball truck I got from @danthecaprimana couple of days ago20231012_194406.thumb.jpg.1371d2fe174e46c13448dc1c1d031fff.jpg

It's in nice original condition, the firing mechanism works,so I might add a figure to the Steve Flowers list 😀20231012_194418.thumb.jpg.7f8eba1ba4cc00aa30c07c8174facff3.jpg

In the box was this

Corgitronics was brill, I thought

Because as a child, all we had was coal.  As an adult, this was a revelation! A bit.

Then the wife walked in looking for Paracetamol, saw what was going on and hit the ceiling.

Ok will find out out minty black one (and the box) and allocate it your way, so don’t go on eBay and do a ‘Sabra Plymouth’.  Would swap for borked Sizzler!

Managed to fit in a quick visit to the local good charity shop yesterday, this is what they had on offer in the cabinet:

There's a shelf elsewhere with stuff at £1 each, 3 for £2. This is what I came away with:

I'm no expert on older HWs, apparently this screen-less version of the Dune Daddy is a promo from 1980 - does that sound right? Seemed like decent value at 66.666666666667p.

Posted

Datsuncog sorted me out that same Dune Daddy a while back, and I picked up another in near identical condition more recently - yours looks like it's survived a lot better?

As you say, apparently a promotional item but why they chose to remove the screen I don't know - I thought they'd just gone missing

I have three geographical centres for charity shop mooching; Manningtree, Twickenham and (occasionally) Colchester, and all three are piss poor compared with the regular diecast bonanzas everybody on here seems to regularly encounter.

It's disappointing, but I suppose it helps my abstention.

On the MG Maestro prototype in the pics Corgi had  got the bumpers right… anyone know why they grew to comedy proportions for the production version?

Everybody?  Are you sure about that?  Barrow and the surrounding (land-based) communities are a diecast desert.  Hell, we're a boot sale desert!  I'm at the mercy of ebay and the kindly chaps on here.

Mind, the wife says I have more than enough already.  Can someone explain this concept to me?

It’s hit or miss here. Sometimes you can find great stuff, other times it’s either rubbish or nothing at all. The last time I went in for a mooch all they had was loads of those god awful Chinese cheapo generic cars with the black window’s and quite a nice Singer sewing machine - which looked nice but I’ve no idea how to use it!
There’s certainly less boot sale’s around here than pre Covid. Some of them are some distance away and definitely not local.
There was a really good boot sale at a local place where I managed to pick up loads of good stuff over the years but as far as I know that’s long stopped happening now.
