 MC Toys/Maisto Granada!

Cool find. I think someone on here has a decent collection of those, I have a few. Not many 1:64 Granadas made which is I think why they get hoovered up by buyers. I've only found the white one as Maisto

Yesterday a tiny box worth £66 arrived in the post signed for (by the postie) so I could get a couple of projects finished off.

My childhood Roger Clark Crapi painted yellow, but only needing a couple of tyres from Steve Flowers...

IMG_6290.thumb.JPG.a20cc9fc3b0090784b4daa32c62ae3d2.JPG

and a red Crapi with teledials as I wanted one for my Tri Deck Transporter. Stupidly I made a bid on this one on my phone while sitting in the bright sun and with my brain turned off...

RC1.thumb.jpg.802f0c943801c1dc97a7b5421d86dea8.jpg

I noticed the collapsed suspension, but was optimistic

RC3.thumb.jpg.d58eb437432dfa2a4217031d1fa0ab2c.jpg

So no suspension and two broken A pillars, what else?

RC7.thumb.jpg.898ce3efd52aeabc7efc178ab40eb904.jpg

Oh well at least it was for the starting price bid! The only thing I needed to buy was a repro plastic suspension spring from Steve (1st name terms after all the money I've spent with him)

So here they are finished at last

IMG_6570.thumb.JPG.9f0193765334e49e6627257be80f8539.JPG

I also splashed out on the correct stickers for Roger Clark's white Crapi

IMG_6571.thumb.JPG.0675d49daf9b0dea0538081f462e2e04.JPG

The plastic spring for the red one was a pain in the arse as when compressed the rear wheels got stuck up. A fair bit of filing and paring to sort it out

IMG_6572.thumb.JPG.76e7a9878f63225cc0215e1d5467d3d3.JPG

I just tickled the red one in with Humbrol (actually Revel) enamel and a red Sharpie rather than full resto

IMG_6573.thumb.JPG.bb31f56b432281b7d479927f830dca0d.JPG

The white one was fully stripped and repainted

IMG_6574.thumb.JPG.837c928bba8bed75ef7f05cd711162b3.JPG

I amnaged to get a mark in the black bonnet when I clamped it together despite plenty of cloth to protect it, it didn't polish out but not too bad.

IMG_6575.thumb.JPG.a5b61f78e620d34819dd9c6bbfcf67eb.JPG

I actually prefer the teledials to the red spots (hides)...

IMG_6577.thumb.JPG.7e0044e906a37729d0236d781fc07c8e.JPG

I'm pleased with how both of these turned out

IMG_6578.thumb.JPG.665a1e092e17cb38018810dff46b39c1.JPG

I made the missing rear light from the back end of a 2CV interior (handy it was the right colour) left over from a Van conversion I did in the early 80s after visiting France. Funny how I still had that when I have lost complete cars...

I must be living in a parallel reality!

I have been out today to 3 towns, visiting 3 Poundlands.  Not one Matchbox, nor any pegs showing they ever did.  In one High Street Poundland the had 0 Hot Wheels, just empty pegs.  The others had sparse stock of Hot Wheels, max five pegs and a third full at most

In 2 of the towns I also went to their B&M.  Nothing new aside from loads of Pixar Cars.  Same old mainline stock from weeks ago, thinning.  No new Matchbox.

Waste of time and fuel...

Me & you both!

Checked but no 50p Matchbox today in Poundland. Curiously though they did have some of the current issues such as the green ford pick up. Are they also becoming a retailer as well?

Poundland seem to have had Matchbox on and off for a few years now, but mainly parallel imports via Chinese distributors - they stocked a fair few of the Moving Parts series a couple of years back (as did The Entertainer - but not sure where they got theirs from).

The long card stuff from a few months back was the first I'd seen Poundland stocking Matchbox mainlines, even if it was only the rubbishy ones like the Skidster and Speed Trapper trailer left - and I don't think they came directly from Mattel either, as they also had distributor stickers written in Chinese on the back.

IMG_20230303_132300~2.jpg

The stuff on the pegs on Saturday was the first I've seen current-release mainline models in Poundland though, like the green '70 Ford Ranchero and white, blue and red Nissan Hardbody.

1934872077_IMG_20230422_1505492.thumb.jpg.1a4cba9d893060374052df4fc73dc07c.jpg

These seem to be legit Mattel stock too - there's no distributor stickers on the back of the packs.

Weird that the older long card stuff from 2021 is still priced at £1.50 (called 'Matchbox Cars Collection' on their labelling) but the new 2023 release 'Matchbox Cars Asst' stuff is only 50p here - how much was the green (Ranchero?) pickup in your local store, if not 50p?

I wonder if this was some mega-cheap introductory offer, for a few days only, to try to kick-start sales? I mean, what the hell could Poundland buying them at if retailing at 40p ex-VAT still gives them a bit of profit?

Or possibly it was a pricing error, now corrected?

But out of six Poundland stores in my general orbit, only two have ever had any Matchbox in stock - the others have been Hot Wheels and rubbishy no-names only.

I only noticed some of the bigger B&M stores selling Matchbox mainlines (late 2022 and 2023 cases) a few weeks back.

1791967523_IMG_20230324_0942252.thumb.jpg.322bc5eff5dd1f75e8f1744e3b0f87a1.jpg

They seem to profile them on clipstrips along the toy aisle (though I've also encountered them in the confectionary aisle and the household cleaning aisle), rather than allocating them some dedicated space in a bay, which - from my days in retail - suggests a non-core line picked up cheap by the corporate buying team to be sold through and not directly replaced.

Not all their stores carry them, either, although most do carry individual mainline Hot Wheels, and many have HW premiums too .

Poundstretcher has also carried Matchbox mainlines in the past, in the form of those Chinese-import stickered 2020 releases...

576887334_IMG_20220726_1118202.thumb.jpg.f319fd5ef1a0e328b0f91408f128df71.jpg

I seem to recall Home Bargains and The Original Factory Shop stocking these cardboard box mainlines too, maybe two years back.

415300145_IMG_20220726_1120362.thumb.jpg.1acf5cd3884751005c8ebf099926eb76.jpg

Some independent retailers have got their hands on these as well - this same 2020 box is still kicking round the Friday Market.

1178972740_IMG_20230203_0834162.thumb.jpg.e313ec70d7828f3407ea0174201687d2.jpg

And more recently Poundstretcher have been selling Working Rigs, with Indian distributor stickers on the back.

1178065710_IMG_20230310_1313222.thumb.jpg.7c32febe0c504b53fd1940c88c89d561.jpg

Though they seem to be clearing them out now, with no new Matchbox that I've seen on their shelves.

2081044844_IMG_20230407_1246362.thumb.jpg.504a46a84aa018a9e0f61e3021f6935e.jpg

I've never seen any Matchbox in Sainsburys or Asda; nor have I ever seen them in The Range (who did stock Hot Wheels a year or two back, but now seem to have stopped).

Time will tell whether the removal of the old Tesco handcuffs will improve things for Matchbox collectors in the UK, but either officially or unofficially, it's looking a bit better already...

Still no Red Rs2000. :(

B&M had nothing new, Morrisons had put out an older Hotwheels box but had strips hidden behind Customer service with the Black and Gold clip cars.

Asda had the first new box of the year out, sadly someone beat me to it. 20230424_134212.thumb.jpg.f3bdc5c2592080c3c5c26e41ff1a8981.jpg

Always interesting to see how different manufacturers approach things, the hood (as in roof) and part of the interior are masked and painted black rather than being plastic parts.

Suspension is nice and sproingy but employs the easily broken plastic tabs on the base method. Seems to jar with nice metal wheels etc

I keep thinking I must get that Hotwheels RS2000 cos it’s looks awesome. Just now I’ve opened the drawer in my Welsh dresser and found one, along with an Impreza and an RS500 I’d also forgotten I’d bought.

Got another box full of tat today, some nice ones in there this time!
They’re taking a bath at the moment as some were a bit dusty and grubby, but here’s one of the less - good finds!😆

I mean, it’s not so bad you can’t tell what it is, but it’s certainly no Corgi/Husky XJ, which as far as I’m concerned is the king of small Jag’s!

It looks like that glow in the dark stuff but I’m not sure it actually is?

I had both of those Summer models as a little ‘un. They came in a big set, in a big thin plastic tray inside a box if I remember right. They were very cheap though I think, much cheaper than Matchbox or Corgi were. Pretty sure I got mine from a local pharmacy that sold all sorts of other stuff on the side.
Most of mine just got binned over the years, although I’m pretty sure you’ve got the last few I had left from my first mini tat sales! The last lucky survivors!

Wow! Proper radioactive glow!
I don’t know why mines not doing it? Maybe I’ll try it somewhere really dark instead of just in my hand. It was filthy when I got it. Took a fair bit of detergent to shift the mank on it!
Always amazes me with these old toys that the shit (probably literally in some cases!) that’s on them and yet people let kids play with them. Some of the ones I’ve found are health hazards!

The ones soaking in a soapy bath are out and dry.

Matchbox.
All either ones I don’t have or variations.
Ambulance isn’t particularly good tbh, but it’s still got both rear doors, which seem to always be missing on these.

Older Matchbox.
Vauxhall still has its tailgate!
Livestock trailer had no tractor unit with it but I’ve now found one on eBay (Thames & grey wheels!)
Foden tipper will be a future project.

Hot Wheels.
No idea how rare/valuable or not these are, they’re just the ones I like!
Camaro is a weird colour and finish?

And lastly, others…
Bugs & Jerry are just nice to have!
Impy Imperial is complete and very good.
Husky NSU is absolutely lovely condition. I really like this one, nice colour too.
Tiny Camaro is a Marx model. Bit of a weirdo but I like it!
