I do believe that orange one is the unsquashed version of this

My boss picked this up in Berlin for me

Annoyingly he didn't get the green Beetle despite sending me a pic of it!

Picked up these two for half price in Entertainer for custom/wheel donor/dunno

That Hot Wheels Hydroplane / transporter is rather smashing. If they made a version without mad glitzy wheels, I'd have it like a shot.

In fact daft wheels is the reason I've not bought any Hot Wheels for ages. I'd have loved the Sierra Cossie, frinstance, but it just looks silly on 28in rims.

The transporter is nice, and I suppose the boat is too, it just doesn't float my...well you know.

Would be better paired with a hot rod or Kustom to my mind

I'm quite into vintage powerboats, so it had my juices flowing. I was kind of hoping that the 66-numbered boat depicted was a real thing, but it doesn't seem to be. Still, a pleasing stab at the sort of things that were raced in the '50s.

How about you pay me to buy the set, I'll keep the Real Riders and put a set of steels under it for you? 😁

No price but I think Team Transports are around £15 a set normally.

*edit £15.99 according to their website

I went to Lidl yesterday and they had 4 or 5 boxes of Siku , the only open ones seemed to contain mostly lorries, tractor unit  and trailer with various loads- lots of missile trailers, a few with boats and a couple of 6 wheel campers .All priced at £4.99.

If anyone has a catalogue and wants a specific one, let me know and I’ll go back and have a look. Not really a Siku fan but these seemed particularly weighty things which makes me think they’re good quality.

I recently succumbed to this Ixo 1/43 Talbot Horizon. Part of me wants to paint it black with silver detailing as a recreation of my father's old Ultra Horizon. It's waaay too nice for that though. Impressive levels of detail on this one.

To my annoyance Tesco has sold out yesterday on the Matchbox, I’d only gone in looking for a Capri or two and a few of the others.

1/18 Bburagos and MOY in a charity shop

I can understand the MOYs being condemned to the chazza shop, but it kind of saddens me to see boxed, good-as-new thirty year-old Bburagos in there. Yeah, they're not worth a lot (the £25 on each of those is a bit – speculative), and they're somewhat unrefined by today's 1:18, "proper model" standards, but they were a hell of a thing to behold in the late 80s. They were the kind of thing that one is given and then puts somewhere safe so they can enjoy it later in life. Like I've done with the E-Type I got for Christmas when I was 8.

The idea of anybody just.... not wanting them any more... is a bit heartbreaking.

If the Citroen beavertail above is based on a real vehicle it must be hilarious to drive!

I love my Bburago 1/18s, and Polistils.

They are crude but I view them as if I'm still 8 years old and marvel at all the separate little parts.

The 288 GTO is a particularly good example of the above as I never had that one as a kid. I picked mine up at a car boot for £3 and its in absolutely perfect condition!

It could be that the person isn't with us anymore I suppose. I was quite awestruck by the larger Bburagos when I was a kid, not that I had any 1/18 scale.

I just got frustrated with parts breaking off, same as always happened when I tried to make plastic model kits. Think that's why I like toy cars over model cars.

Having said that, I just found out about and watched a video on the 1/8 scale 67 Mustang GT500 from Deagostini. Oh my that thing is amazing!

Funny enough, that's one of only two I did have along with the SSK Mercedes - both 1:24 though I think

Posted

I remember there were 2 Mercedes, an 'SSKL' and a 'SK' or something.  The former was a bit more rakish but I knew little about these prewar cars. I had the more upright version in beige and brown. I loved it at the time, around 1988 as my friend had quite a few 1930s 1/18 Bburagos but I quickly realised I preferred the more modern cars (which he didn't have).

I bought a Jaguar SS about 6 or 7 years ago but it's still purely a nostalgia piece.

Same here. My 1/18 Bburagos are still in my parents loft somewhere. My favourites were my Ferrari F40 and 250 GTO.

As a kid, I always used to love taking them apart and rebuilding them. Wheel swapping was another favourite.

I've mentioned on here somewhere before that my Mercedes 300sl ended up painted in BL Snapdragon Yellow with some leftovers I had from my 81 Metro at the time. From memory, it was also debumpered and had the wheeltrims removed for the less chrome look. I bet a 300sl finished in snapdragon must be a world first 😅

If I were customing one again, it would be more along these lines I reckon...

The F40 was also a belter which I got for Christmas 1989 and then another from my cousin which had been a kit. I also had a couple of Hotwheels ones which are almost identical except for the addition of door glass.

There were 2 versions, a  low line and high line. After researching, it turns out that the latter had more painted detail and are worth quite a bit.

For me, Bburago 1/18s and the original Corgi Classics represent CHRISTMAS!

Does anyone else remember getting diecast for Christmas that blew their mind?

I loved my Bburagos and other 1:18s as a kid, but they all went to the charity shop years ago. They take up a lot of space that I don't have and I'm glad they found new homes.
