Genuine highlight of the week.

Properly wears my F5 key out.

Yup, had to be in the building for a work meeting today, so it made sense to get an earlier train and see what was what at St George's this week...

The good news: the 50p Tat Box is back!!

650573229_IMG_20221014_0817582.thumb.jpg.c39bbba58fe64125a41f79b44eb8d9a2.jpg

The bad news: it's now the £1 Tat Box.

I guess that's inflation for you, kids.

See the source image

[Insert lazy political point here]

Still, some treasures to be found nonetheless - Lesney, Corgi, Majorette and more - oh boy!!

1400533960_IMG_20221014_0818452.thumb.jpg.b515dfbfbdcf52de4dc34e2a8f809ceb.jpg

Squished Lesney Pontiac GTO, along with a less squished example (but still missing both A-pillars).

1785648046_IMG_20221014_0829122.thumb.jpg.85166d1b77d1cf6adbef03928ed50ad5.jpg

Later Superfast BMC 1800 Farina also in a bad way.

Rolamatics Ford Pickup and Tanzara in orange were in ok nick, also the Blaze Buster seen upside down on the far left.

Majorette Dodge fire tender a bit bashed, but still with ladders in place.

Yellow Lamborghini Marzal was not so great, with the windscreen punched through and wonky wheels.

2088490884_IMG_20221014_0819302.thumb.jpg.277c9365be7daf5fda4de8b7b65f73ff.jpg

More Rolamatics: Police Patrol Rangie and Badger weren't mint, but were certainly quite nice all the same.

577815650_IMG_20221014_0822232.thumb.jpg.7572ea88d7abb572edaadef0a009993e.jpg

Lightly wrecked Ford Wreckers in both Regular Wheels and Superfast varieties - though the older example was in a bit of a state and missing an axle.

1231074762_IMG_20221014_0822052.thumb.jpg.466f26aab4f73ff13c7a24b1a2ddf1be.jpg

Superfast Stretcha Fetcha had torn stickers and the usual light wear to the glazing unit edges, but no cracks and the tailgate was still in place.

Corgi racer was in reasonable condition too.

673790586_IMG_20221014_0824152.thumb.jpg.a172a2591faff7a758eafd4a5b1cd765.jpg

Staying with Corgi in general, and slightly strange ambulances in particular, the Juniors Healer Wheeler was decent enough, though the Whizzwheels Fire Bug was missing its windscreen and ladders.

A similar plain red GP Buggy without windscreen but with its roll bar was also in there, though I'm not sure I snapped it.

Homefire Zakspeed Capri is a pretty common one, from the mid-80s BP promotional range.

1288448181_IMG_20221014_0822502.thumb.jpg.3f2b8f132a905f5356c2239012c98976.jpg

Corgi Juniors 'Captain America' Porsche 912 was still quite shiny, if a little faded around the stickers.

1298951365_IMG_20221014_0830492.thumb.jpg.3ed1283a6c29faa102d7bfc1f9062f3c.jpg

Corgi Eagle Jeep was kept company by this oddly proportioned Marx version.

I was tempted by its strangeness... But I refrained.

Pinky-peuce Woosh 'N' Push was a colour I haven't seen before; they seem to be generally yellow.

More to follow, once I've cropped the pic files...

Also up top were these Siku delights:

1871640541_IMG_20221014_0823152.thumb.jpg.027150d2e64c5a7702028524ea8a6b44.jpg

£10 each on these - I think. Some chips to the paintwork, and the crane hook seemed to be partially unstrung.

This 1950s Chad Valley tinplate may well be a repaint, but despite its generic looks and battered appearance had a fair bit of appeal nonetheless.

801825501_IMG_20221014_0824422.thumb.jpg.53cd29b9ea90ba42bdd652dcd73a9cb5.jpg

Also, some 1/18 giffer-goodies:

Road Eagle '57 Corvette, and Bburago Jaguar SS100 roadster.

Not quite what we're here for...

That Siku truck looks amazing, especially if the ramps still work.

Not for me, but still. Phwoaaaar.

The yellow Marzal is quite scarce. It was in the 1973 Broomstick set, where you got a unique model and a orange plastic thing that you used to drag the car along.

And now, we move on to buses.

Gentlemen, there are buses.

535956854_IMG_20221014_0825062.thumb.jpg.78e91892355f5dcefb8acdd7d3696f2e.jpg

And some quite interesting ones, too, at £5 a throw.

310977441_IMG_20221014_0817432.thumb.jpg.26e4c9cb6b637421b490c49197b5c88e.jpg

Corgi CMB double-axle isn't one I've seen before.

1745313489_IMG_20221014_0820052.thumb.jpg.a0ffef5c85496a2a8a6abc18eaacd5e7.jpg

Not sure who makes this one: is 'Definitive Double Deckers' a brand name, or a tagline?

17898154_IMG_20221014_0819532.thumb.jpg.89417c61e97c6233e0a7af4c03c5373e.jpg

Another Far Eastern version of a Dennis Dart - unsure of the manufacturer here - NWFB?

894677694_IMG_20221014_0821152.thumb.jpg.b1437f9a018e71c736148537ebb26871.jpg

Box design, resembling a very stretched bus front end, took me a while to realise what it was.

687548338_IMG_20221014_0817052.thumb.jpg.679c4e1ae9fdb4e554ce6fe7aff855ab.jpg

Pair of Collector's Model Leyland Victories look unopened - think these are similar to the one I picked up for @Split_Pin a few years back?

1802951176_IMG_20221014_0817152.thumb.jpg.118250c7a90b56fcf4738b5a415cf1d9.jpg

B-T Models Leyland Leopard just below them looked interesting, too.

954701329_IMG_20221014_0817282.thumb.jpg.94c0a39440aa26176b78d4d936eb1d5c.jpg

Not a bus, but this AEC ladder turntable with Glasgow lettering was nice. I think I passed a similar one on a few years back to someone here?

Again, while I'm kinda done with speculative buying these days, if there's anything tasty that takes your fancy, I'll be heading back over at 12 for some hoover bags...

Is that CMB a fiver?!? Looks amazing!

Yup, both available for a fiver a throw - same casting, it appears, but different vehicle and route numbers.

I gather these would have been a fair bit dearer when new!

There was also a Corgi OOC version, still sealed:

Well Sir. If the vendor still has the double-axle Corgi CMB, and one or other of the other CMBs, and / or the London Transport National, I'd gladly remunerate you for picking them up.

Good-o: will scuttle over shortly and see what's what!

Just to clarify (as I'm a bit thick when it comes to buses), you're after this CMB triple:

And this here National?

Yes please!

Sorry, I was so overcome with requirement that I garbled a reply far too hastily. It certainly wouldn't have passed my usual subediting standards.

So after exhausting the delights of the Tat Stall, I had a trek round the rest of the market.

Alan's Emporium seemed to be taking a break this week, so no more hilarious cheapo Chinese tat.

The other 'antique' stalls had nothing much new in terms of diecast, with The Chancer still looking £75+ for some very averagely playworn mid-60s Corgis in tatty boxes.

The General Tat stall had a few unusual bits and bobs today, involving Greenlight models amongst the usual Oxford stuff:

1769332091_IMG_20221014_0835552.thumb.jpg.2a774ac424a32c381f009ed9555bd042.jpg

I've no idea what 'Black Bandit' is or was - and I'm not going to try Googling it on a work computer - but a 1970 Plymouth Satellite wagon is always going to snag my attention.

£6, though - and I've been here before with my Johnny Lightning collection. I just don't know what to do with them once I've bought them, other than be consumed with woe and regret.

More Greenlight clipped up the side of the stall, too, besides the diddly-dee tourist-tat fridge magnets.

415612138_IMG_20221014_0835592.thumb.jpg.5d9498898959d00ccfe7f487bfad86f1.jpg

Finally - I think a degree of appreciation is in order, once again, for the sheer eclecticism of a market where one can procure a resin figure of St Anthony of Padua and a railway-scale replica of a Model 70 - all on the same stall.

1381556325_IMG_20221014_0836102.thumb.jpg.bbb1687a360a169b3988d1cf6919970a.jpg

And a plush Brexit Bear.

Truly, this place has it all.

And, on that note, I wandered off and bought myself a sausage soda and a hammerhead latte to go, and headed off into the daybreak...

Hey Tim I'd be interested in either of the BT Models Leyland leopards if they're around a fiver?

Please check the condition of the ADAC truck,I'm seriously tempted by it......😮

I'll take a look, if it's still there! There were a few chips to the box body, but overall it looked quite decent - no missing wheels or anything.

Would you be happy enough if I could get it for a tenner?

The Collectors Model Victories are excellent boxed at a fiver. The one I got from you back in January 2021 was an ABC example though, which is next level in comparison and are quite sought after. I always wanted one when they came out in 1999 but the Collectors model ones were more affordable.

The Corgi one is great too and will carry the number ESF647W as it was repatriated to Scotland about 20 years ago and it lives at the Scottish Vintage Bus Museum.  Just last month I saw it trundling around giving lifts to punters around the grounds! I have the NWFB version which was the last to come out of service in 2000 so sold my CMB example quite a while ago.

The definitive decker is an OOC ECW Olympian, quite nice in Arriva Livery. If its a fiver I'd be interested in it!

As I've just posted this in another thread, I thought I'd bung it in here with a description.

In the mean time, I did a collection last night, just those strange plastic wind up Beetles that make an awful noise - and a Scirocco which I didn't have

20221014_120639.thumb.jpg.562573d25e1c7bf6806099f43e6a3190.jpg20221014_120653.thumb.jpg.977d2b906f03fe0f6c85f3dff7a891a9.jpg

Guy then brought out several trays of VWs, mostly those pull-back 1303s you used to see rows of in every seaside gift shop. And this

20221014_120957.thumb.jpg.3f64405a9ee9474f8e4b29214099bcfb.jpg20221014_121007.thumb.jpg.eb66762320abb804e84037257c5c88e8.jpg

There was something very familiar about it - it's a fairly basic motorised plastic kit, that as it turns out was originally made by Imai, but has been passed around here and there through Scale Craft, Aoshima and is still made by Italeri apparently. The reason I recognised it was I had one in my early teens, and customised it. I still have it. BEHOLD:

20221014_121041.thumb.jpg.4de0a62149514fd08d3c6103899c2175.jpg20221014_121033.thumb.jpg.3d75d523de39e25d6b921d78ad31ba06.jpg20221014_121052.thumb.jpg.7ff7b707f99685957ded04b57fa66658.jpg20221014_121106.thumb.jpg.d5686fa9c8018bf2103c5d3eb967501d.jpg20221014_121119.thumb.jpg.3494a72baf45486f4b0570ede7bb0055.jpg20221014_121133.thumb.jpg.ca3aa8ea858f26510f52fba03092bd0e.jpg

I'm sure @Spottedlaurelwould laugh his tits off at my efforts, but considering this was at least 30 years ago I don't think I did a bad job. A 57 Chevy and Sierra Cosworth have given up various parts, and the body's channelled over the base for some lows. Obviously the lights and wipers have gone AWOL as was the way with every plastic kit I ever built.

20221014_121232.thumb.jpg.ac0107c7fec676e175f0d368faed17a8.jpg

This was the kit I had, I remember the box vividly

It's appropriate that there's talk of Beetles on Page 1131 as that was the cubic capacity of the original models engine when it was first launched.

Some good finds over at the market at lunchtime.

Didn't get absolutely everything on the shopping list, as some had already gone - but hopefully enough to give everyone some of those warm 'n' fuzzy Tat Friday vibes.

Pics to come.
