AnthonyG
I bought a few Solido Age d’Or when I was a teenager- Solido had much more interesting subjects, with an emphasis on 1930s-50s French and American vehicles, and I thought much better detail than Yesteryears. Some of the subjects e.g. Facel Vega Facilia were pretty esoteric even for a manufacturer focusing on French cars! Looking at the 1972 catalogue I will have to start keeping an eye out for the 1934 Voisin. I will have to dig out what I still have from back then but I treated myself to this via EBay recently: RoadworkUK, andrew e, D.E and 1 other

Hopefully the time spend messing about editing the pictures afterwards were worth it, some gems in here that I remember getting new, the green RS2000 set with the glider and trailer and Convoy Truck Stop set especially. I also remember having a Rough Rider, but don't recognise it from this catalogue. I would have been 7 at the time Several mocks-ups to be seen too, notably in the Specials range. My parents must have been really flush that year, I have counted about 50 items from there that I had although some were different colours so may have been from an earlier year. Great memories, only a handful remain in my collection now though. bunglebus
AnthonyG
Looking for Solido I found a Corgi Mini I didn’t know I still had! It also disproves my Union Jack theory: Stickers are a weird mix of plastic and paper ones, although I think a couple on the roof were courtesy of my 10 year old self. I'm sure that's the one I bought, along with the Matchbox Datsun/Volvo race set, and Peterbilt tow truck, when I won £50 on the Premium Bonds aged about 10. I was only allow to spend half of it too, more than £25 to get that lot mint/boxed these days! bunglebus
I always enjoy seeing the oddities that sneak into the catalogue, the TP-111 twin pack with the Cortina and horsebox shows the 1.6 GL with painted headlights, don't think they ever came like this, the lights and grille are all part of the base normally - also don't think I've seen a Cortina on those later wheels either The Tyrone Malone has the Race and Chase wheels on it, looking closely it's 100% the slot car version - this is repeated in several catalogues, again never made with these wheels/colours together And I'm always fascinated to see mock ups with opaque windows make it into the catalogues... ...and even onto the actual box art for the K-109! AnthonyG
Looking at that picture I definitely added some stickers - including Marlboro ones, which I have a feeling Corgi would have been criticised for, even back in the early 1980s. bunglebus
Split_Pin
I got the Corgi Collector Club Magazine from 1989 to 1993 and they would nearly always show a new casting as a resin mock up months before they arrived in my local 'Gold Star' stockist. For me it added to the excitement! I remember this happened with the Saab 96 when they released the model in 1990. I really liked these as you could still spot the later versions on the road at the time. I eventually got it for Christmas that year along with the VW Type 2 bus which as also new in 1990. I still have all those magazines in the binder you could buy back in the day! bunglebus, Datsuncog and Dick Longbridge
sierraman
There’s a few over the years that Matchbox got perilously close to producing various Superkings that got vetoed at the last minute, the big airport fire tender, a tow truck etc. Plus Sentron 9 that was scrapped after only a few made. I think latterly getting companies approval was difficult, the Dodge Viper was set to be released in 1992ish but at the last moment Chrysler said no and it ended up sans windscreen and called the Sunburner. sierraman
Real Working Rig purchased, £5 which I didn’t feel was bad given they’re much better than the Convoys were. Sadly the beaver tail wasn’t in stock so I picked up a highway maintenance truck. Review when I’ve got it out the packet...

sierraman
So... the REAL rig... Quite impressed, oddly enough it’s fixed together with triangle head screws so I guess a custom would be easy. Detail much better than the Convoys as well. Lord Sterling, sheffcortinacentre, bunglebus and 4 others
