Tat Friday! As you might of seen in the general forum, I had a (high) bid on a local job lot  just to see if I could cover the costs and end up with a couple of 'free' models at the end of it. Having had a close look through I'm now not sure it will work out quite like that, but oh well. As it turns out, this was an expensive day as, unbeknownst to me my car insurance had lapsed -  a helpful policeman informed me of this fact whilst handing over a £300 fine and three points. Would be nice to think these toys will pay for that but it's unlikely!

@bunglebus has expressed interest in some of these already, but I'm putting everything up here for everyone's enjoyment* - shout if you see anything you like, but there is a small chance it's already been claimed.

Right, so first up here are the things I'm keeping. The two Spot Ons are quite tatty, and the Goggo has been set on fire or something so the interior and glazing are just a melted ball of plastic stuck to the inside of the base! I might flog the Minivan as they seem to fetch decent coin even in this state. The Herald was very manky but has cleaned up beautifully and can join my shelf of 'cars wot I've owned'. The Corgi Heinkel is missing two of its tiny tyres - anyone have any replacements?

20220107_155809.thumb.jpg.0de98b1f6246eff86781f33e24675bdb.jpg

20220107_155827.thumb.jpg.7aa1b655a67102a97658211bcfce902d.jpg

A selection of dragsters. The pink one has lost a corner of its grille which is a shame, as otherwise it looks mint. The other two are in very good shape with a bit of playwear. Rogue bodyshell FOC to anyone who wants it - I knwo there are some collectors of these on here...

20220107_155930.thumb.jpg.34721bb33fd574e3f3e108b96d644209.jpg

Now this is the main reason I bid on this lot - a pair of Hot Wheels Redlines. The Custom Camaro is one of the original 'sweet sixteen' and is apparently quite collectible. It has a slightly wonky front axle but otherwise is in excellent shape, and it will be going on ebay. The 'Nitty Gritty Kitty' Cougar was a 1970 casting and has suffered quite badly but is complete. Also an ebay job unless somebody wants to make me an offer.

20220107_160015.thumb.jpg.5e11d5ed643c62f2b4a7fd8f5698443f.jpg

Three nice Rockets. The Carabo is MINT, seriously. Absolutely beautiful shape. The Jensen would be too if not for those chips on the leading edge of the bonnet. The MErc has sadly had some over-painting which seems quite stubborn. That one will be cheap, the others less so.

20220107_160303.thumb.jpg.f2d452446407e8bc214c296c22a0c823.jpg

Some regular wheels matchboxes, all in very nice shape apaert from the Galaxie. The two Beetles and R-R are particularly clean. Then yellow convertible is missing its screen which, again, is a shame as otherwise it's in great nick.

20220107_160604.thumb.jpg.00c5808d370d6489784273cd6116c325.jpg

And some Huskys, all a bit playworn but the two VWs have their bits intact which I assume is a rarity

20220107_160722.thumb.jpg.d5c2085ee3fa44e3e35b570bfa094967.jpg

Some Whizzwheels Matchbox. The green thingy looks brand new, but has a twisted axle. The Carabo is also in astonishingly good shape. I doubt any of these are that collectible sadly.

20220107_160913.thumb.jpg.3d3380cbca75280a77d7af9dd1762de1.jpg

Some Corgi Juniors, both very nice, and a Lone Star Corvette with nasty paint loss

20220107_161004.thumb.jpg.3ce6aebd62f750e28a2e9ebac04bfebd.jpg

And this lone Corgi Marcos, which is in pretty good shape

20220107_160410.thumb.jpg.7fa61f393215f8680115646b310457bf.jpg

The best of the trucks. The blue Mercedes is mint. Horesbox includes horse! All cheap.

20220107_161221.thumb.jpg.e05b2d4790b6a8329f4a96de459a3d8b.jpg

A couple of bigger 60s Corgis. The VW is very nice, actually, apart from the tyres. Merc is strictly for spares.

20220107_162053.thumb.jpg.6b154d756a864bc81ccc9548f5687df7.jpg

Some BP vehicles including two variations on the Dodge tow truck

20220107_161932.thumb.jpg.4f6cf5a0789b4a50b251961d094b7220.jpg

The rest of the trucks an others. 50p tat box fodder, but shout if anything takes your fancy.

20220107_161717.thumb.jpg.8c862d916077ad357c1053036079e366.jpg

And the dregs

20220107_162026.thumb.jpg.b58ce1f4587bf7a6828750e5ae11748b.jpg

And then of course there is the Matchbox carry case itself. It's a bit battered but all complete.

20220107_162126.thumb.jpg.a4996675911c7fbca430cdce805e65b2.jpg

20220107_162139.thumb.jpg.74a17875773fb8765607c4b5fc981676.jpg

So, do please let me know if anything catches your eye. Not sure if I'm going to go into diecast dealing full time after today, but hopefully I can claw back from total financial ruin with those Redlines, at least...

I vaguely remember that VW breakdown truck but think  it was a light blue. ( 50 years ago). Anyone know if that’s right?

It arrived and has been added to the Stash of Small Skodas™

Top tip for those with sideways photos that are okay on their computer... rotate the photos using the windows photo viewer doohicky and then rotate them back.

White and yellow for those Corgis AFAIK

Talking of ancient Volkswagens, the Mrs bought me this one - supposed to be a birthday present but I've opened it (very) early! Dinky VW Fastback

20220108_131723.thumb.jpg.a86039aeb587b260d3b7b272aee6625c.jpg20220108_131733.thumb.jpg.5276766497e050198aebd50c3c29d135.jpg20220108_131749.thumb.jpg.db27e14768f19563860297bbb45d9c9a.jpg20220108_131834.thumb.jpg.415ba46367b61c5121247c26908273ae.jpg20220108_131815.thumb.jpg.ecec64426ea7ef7b4397281748d8189b.jpg

I thought it was the same scale as the earlier Notchback but no

Also arriving today is something I've been waiting to pop up for quite some time, Guisval Crazy Horse Mustang. Another one that's bigger than expected, would sit well with the likes of the Matchbox Cambuster

20220108_132058.thumb.jpg.48c94d65e2ceb95e84024525f9ab2918.jpg20220108_132120.thumb.jpg.35bfdb9913899c5c57212759aebe1949.jpg20220108_132112.thumb.jpg.c337408241424371162494e2f274bf1b.jpg

Actually it's even bigger!

That Dinky VW Fastback is glorious!!

I will admit to serious pangs of envy on that one.

Today a Dinky Ford Carpi. Plastered with transfers left over a plastic kit or two

The detailing on the base is OK. I do wonder why there are two rings there.

CrapiSide.thumb.jpg.31f1e0532dfbec290466541f6e94b4ad.jpgCrapiBase.thumb.jpg.74533e11f2296bf5cc7845f6581e4c0d.jpg

Also interesting that this car has screw fixings. Did all Dinkys at this time have them or was it only the Capri?

I have found some more die-casts in another box.

Quite a lot of them did so they could be sold as Action Kits. Transit, Beach Buggy, Beetle, MK1 Escort etc all had screws - although it seems the Capri never made it into kit format! Maybe Dinky intended to but didn't for whatever reason

My recently acquired Cortina Mk2 has screws affixing the base, didn't think to check the Transit but my other Transit had its base riveted.

It is a bit of an oddity, all my Dinky Transits have screwed on bases up to and including the MK2/Vanpire but only the early sliding door ever came as a kit. Others with screwed on bases include the Merrryweather fire engine - never made into a kit- Ford D series which was, SNR6 Hovercraft - no kit - Mercury Cougar - no kit - Cadillac Eldorado - no kit - McLaren M8A - no kit - Mercedes 250SE - no kit - MK1 Escort which was released as standard/police/Mexico in different kits, DeTomaso Magusta - no kit - Porsche 914 - no kit - Corvette Stingray - no kit - Beach Buggy which was made into a kit, even the Inch Pincher dragster has a screwed on base. There are probably more, these are just ones I own.

Makes life easy for the restorer that's for sure, even if it's just swapping better parts from a donor.

Having just bothered dragging my arse up to the attic for a look, I'm surprised I hadn't noticed the Escort screws together before now. Mind you I must have had it for two or three years and never done anything with it. Probably bought it for the sake of completeness rather than because it's any good.

My latest failure to stop buying miniature shite is, slightly inevitably, bus shaped.

20220105_142926.thumb.jpg.9a105e7a52a1f3fa3c1d7dcb0c8ad0e5.jpg

It's a Leyland National, first generation, with those lovely Standard-Triumph inspired front indicator clusters.

More relevantly for me, though, it's YEV308S, which I'm pretty sure made regular appearances as a contract bus for my school in the early 90s.

20220105_142754-01.thumb.jpeg.0df0d2a6a4abe19fb017b2c120804311.jpeg

Back in those days it wore a slightly different livery, with a darker shade of grey and an overtly 80s "Eastern National" script over the door. I'm actually rather surprised it survived for long enough to be outfitted in the later scheme.

20220105_142859.thumb.jpg.65e852f2d032d7122bee91b50b8038dc.jpg

This particular model has a few more imperfections than was advertised, including missing paint from the O/S reversing light lens, but that's probably a fair reflection of the full-size machine, which seemed pretty tired in the 90s and must have been borderline scrap not long later.

The casting itself is a belter. Catches the proportions superbly, except that the rear wheels are rather too far inset. I always liked the National; I always thought that roof pod (I know they didn't all have them, and they came in varying lengths) gave it a rather sporty air, and I enjoyed seeing the scavenge fan rotating behind that grille on the rear end.

I'll probably (almost certainly) end up (desperately) looking (searching) for a National Mk2 in the older livery to go with it.

Turns out I also don't collect model buses.. Rooting through one of the sheds earlier displaced some of the component pieces of the model railway I've been wanting to build forever. Including this, which I had absolutely forgotten all about.

One of my favs. The Dinky Mercedes lorry. This is at the opposite end to the Maestro. The level of accuracy and detail goes beyond a toy.

MercLorryTrailer.thumb.jpg.607045257b47987675efb6e137059652.jpgMercLorryFront.thumb.jpg.37f141dd727190d2ca1634908961619b.jpgMercLorryRear.thumb.jpg.76c524cf078d928c5edad45d5f0c6f17.jpg

I have lost both front suspension springs. I have managed to save one plastic part to the front suspension, lost the other. The tyres are going sticky for some reason. They are not deformed neither have they lost any detail.

I forgot to say that all of my collection are dirty. They are stored in an attic. I do not intend to put them on display so I have not cleaned any of the die-casts

You too! I still hanker to build a 1994ish themed layout. My best mate and I had a pretty decent setup going in a shed down his garden. A portion of it was quite nicely finished, with buildings, scenic materials etc. In hindsight, though it was let down by being based on the track layout he got as a young kid, e.g two concentric ovals with points and a crossover, and it made little sense for a village with a single station to have a (Swallow livery) Intercity 125 continually orbiting it.

I do love that train, though, and still have it for when I DO get a layout set up.

A big weekend for the Cog Collection.

It began yesterday.

IMG_20220108_143951.thumb.jpg.04d96055cd1eb2de8a989196c4cc1119.jpg

17 boxes of models, of varying sizes.

With an aim to consolidate it all down into a volume that fits into half the space under a double bed.

Yeah, I know.

It's not an ideal scenario, but there's a house move on the cards and we may well be downsizing - so can't assume that the furniture we currently have will be coming with us. Since the bed is the bed, it's one of the few storage spaces which is reasonably guaranteed to still be available afterwards.

Here's how it was looking last night, mid-way through the sort.

IMG_20220108_183156.thumb.jpg.507eeeebb456d17d30b812dbd1723513.jpg

And finally through to completion, late this afternoon.

IMG_20220109_213514.thumb.jpg.583273988fc2716b509ae3ad79e0c538.jpg

Six smaller boxes, and some loose odds and ends.

Which leads me to a rather large pile of diecast now to be disposed of...

2077387347_IMG_20220109_2132002.thumb.jpg.c888552eb94c35a8cfce3c4ad8117b31.jpg

Stay tuned, kids.

Obviously, two weeks into 'skint month' is probably the absolute worst time of the year to be rehoming stuff, but fear not - easy terms for trusted shiters on this fine page will be available, should there be any stuff that holds appeal but threatens to blow a hole in finances...

I'll be posting stuff up throughout this week, starting tomorrow.

I'll not lie, it's been a rough weekend!

It'll probably never get built, despite actually having the space for the first time in my life. The newest of my railway stuff is easily 25 years old, all the rest of it is the same stuff I had as a child in the mid eighties. Ought probably to get up in the loft and post some photos up on the miniature railway shite thread. And, now I think about it, it'd be nice to have a Scalextric/generic slot car track permanently set up too.

You'd better believe it. The usual DC School of Business diktat, 'buy dear, sell cheap', will very likely apply here... again.

Since it's space that's needed, rather than funds per se, then joblots at rock bottom prices will probably be the way to go. They'll be offered out here, then what's left will be going on eBay (rare stuff) and Gumtree/ FB Marketplace (bulky stuff), before the remainder is offered back to Market Blokey for whatever he'll give me.

Not really what I want to be doing, but needs must. The clock is ticking...

Posted

I really feel like I should be doing similar, but your collection absolutely dwarfs mine, so I'm off the hook.

As I mentioned above, I picked up some charity shop bits. Got all excited thinking I'd found a 50p tub but actually the whole lot was one price. Nothing too exciting, thought the Dinky might be worth flipping but sadly it seems to be one of the most worthless

On a slightly larger scale, I’m sticking bloody awful multi part decals on a Tamiya touring car. Which was a pain to cut out as well! I hope it will be a good 5 yarder once it’s on the shelf 😄
