RemspoorsShite:

I will post these in the order I took them out of the box.

First off is a flipping Lledo Daysgone Bootsvan.

I do not think it would be a purchase of mine, honest. Some vehicles have crept into the box over the years. More on them later.

Second offering today is the Atlantean Bus made by Dinky.

It has been painted, like most of my die-casts. It is ready to dissemble too.

Steve Flowers seems to be the most highly regarded, even if his website is stuck in the 90s!

I've found plenty of links for info on diecasts over the years, some like Hot Wheels and Matchbox have pretty good Wiki pages etc as you've found - some of the others don't. Hobby DB is a pretty good place to start

Looks like it's Tonka week, this one is friction motored and makes the correct horrific scream before you hit the button on the roof to release it. Looks like a Fiero?

Next up is a pull-back, Gremlin? Pinto? Scramblers #702 Hub Heater

Last one I do know - model A Ford. Tonka called it Frantic Flivver

I reckon the yellow Tonka could be a US-market MK1 Capri, or rough approximation thereof.

My latest failure to stop buying miniature shite is, slightly inevitably, bus shaped.

20220105_142926.thumb.jpg.9a105e7a52a1f3fa3c1d7dcb0c8ad0e5.jpg

It's a Leyland National, first generation, with those lovely Standard-Triumph inspired front indicator clusters.

More relevantly for me, though, it's YEV308S, which I'm pretty sure made regular appearances as a contract bus for my school in the early 90s.

20220105_142754-01.thumb.jpeg.0df0d2a6a4abe19fb017b2c120804311.jpeg

Back in those days it wore a slightly different livery, with a darker shade of grey and an overtly 80s "Eastern National" script over the door. I'm actually rather surprised it survived for long enough to be outfitted in the later scheme.

20220105_142859.thumb.jpg.65e852f2d032d7122bee91b50b8038dc.jpg

This particular model has a few more imperfections than was advertised, including missing paint from the O/S reversing light lens, but that's probably a fair reflection of the full-size machine, which seemed pretty tired in the 90s and must have been borderline scrap not long later.

The casting itself is a belter. Catches the proportions superbly, except that the rear wheels are rather too far inset. I always liked the National; I always thought that roof pod (I know they didn't all have them, and they came in varying lengths) gave it a rather sporty air, and I enjoyed seeing the scavenge fan rotating behind that grille on the rear end.

I'll probably (almost certainly) end up (desperately) looking (searching) for a National Mk2 in the older livery to go with it.

I too was always a big fan of these. The spoiler, especially.

I used to make them out of LEGO. Atlantean's, too.

I still remember making a Domestos advert for the side of one, from 2" masking tape and permanent marker.

Just checking out those Tonkas from yesterday, the red one is the same body as my other one but the front and rear bumper/grille etc are different. The new ones also have working suspension

I though the white one was the same body but different lights to my old one(s) but various bits of the stamping are different

I'm sure @flat4alfaposted up a Tonka catalogue a while back, I need to find myself one

I've still got my red one 70 1/2-73 Camaro & possibly still got blue one.

The yellow on in other post is supposed to be a pinto or possibly a maverick.

It's a Leyland National

I remember going into Brentwood on those when I was a kid - Essex reg so may have also trundled past the end of my road in the 80s. Sure our ones were all green but it was a long time ago

I quite like that little guy - what did you have in mind?

Got myself the white Corgi Mercury Cougar to go with the red one from a few weeks back

Smyths must have put new stock out moments before I arrived this morning as there were lots of the desirable cars available

That could well be Eastern National, Green Line or London County then.

Eastern National. Think it used to be the 351 service which was replaced by C1 and C2 I think!

At that point the proper buses were replaced by Mercedes based minibus things, a bit like this

Not a die-cast.

MG6R4. Unfortunately the rear spoiler is warping.

Exactly the same thing happened in and around Colchester. We used to have Eastern National Nationals and occasionally Bristol VRs going one way round the (essentially triangular) village and the Colchester Leyland Atlanteans going the other. One day in about 1993 or so, I don't really remember, all that came along from Eastern National were those dreadful clattering Mercedes skips. Certain times of day saw the thing full well before the station and through the steamed up window (against which you found yourself wedged through sheer weight of numbers) I can still remember seeing the expectant expressions turn to dismay as we juddered past another stop in the rain. I'd never particularly held the older buses in much regard before but even to a 13 or so year old moron schoolboy it seemed a retrograde step. Visually I'd always preferred the Colchester Atlanteans anyway but by then our service (7,7A) was using Leyland Lynxes and that was the end of my interest in buses in general.

(Sorry for the ramble)

Yep, similar story here. From 1987 onwards the Walton, Frinton, Clacton area (and possibly wider afield) saw an influx of "Coastliner" branded Merc L608s (basically van conversions by Reeve Burgess). They were indeed astonishingly rattly, bumpy old things. Still, perhaps 'cos I was six at the time, I grew quite fond of them. I even had a favourite; C217HJN.

They kept going for a fair old while, surviving to be repainted in normal Eastern National livery, and latterly replaced by more Mercs, this time actual coachbuilt ones (based on 811D chassis). Nationals became quite a rare sight in my neck of the woods, and we very rarely saw a Lynx. Made trips into Colchester extra exciting. If you like that kind of thing.
