Crikey- that Spot On haul includes one of these

There's been a spate of cheap Spot-On 1100s lately, I picked one up a few weeks ago for next to nothing

When I popped down to see and old friend:

20250505_141109.jpg.fe7d2c91d3d57a8aaea69753f3999327.jpg

The two boxes in the back have some of my old model cars that I packed away years ago.

I decided to retrieve some and bring them home. Eventually I'll be bringing all of them home. That garage has been rather damp but a big complaint to the council in a dispute over payments (including a complaint to one of their rather rude employees) saw the garage actually properly repaired. Unfortunately as a result of the damp, some of the car boxes got damaged and the interior of the Micra got very mouldy.

Due to the day seeing my Vectra full of sofa and my cousin in the passenger-seat, I decided to carry only what I could in the rear floor well:

20250507_044909.jpg.92c1158ff791fb895ad9f726d52e608d.jpg

You can the damage to the Sierra Cosworth box, it sat at the bottom of the wooden crate and absorbed some of the moisture. 😟 the model however is still in tip-top condition.

Just added pics of the white Jag. Also retrieved from box. I knew I had something like this but didn't remember. The box has survived the worst.

Jag is now with the rest of my Jag collection.

The internet is a dangerous place for a young* man with an eBay account

Got a few older Majorettes with opening bits and number plates, for those making note of them

Wish they didn't have that stupid dog/horse/sea lion poking its head out of the side window though. I mean why that window, it doesn't open! Are we supposed to believe the owner popped the glass out so Mutley could enjoy the breeze?

PXL_20250506_190933945.jpg.ee1fc2ecc48abb1fee290b0990d3b20e.jpg

Anyway. Early Beetle before they cast the front lid shut

It being a 1970’s Fiat the glass probably fell out when the dog brushed its nose on it. 🤣

I spent about an hour yesterday evening cleaning up this  nice example of over painting.

DSCF6874.JPG.d7df17ba4c349961f474ff221e13a719.JPG

It is one of those with lighting, but the battery holder is missing.

DSCF6875.JPG.a8ebc2e124bdf061f9877e61f3e7ba78.JPG

Because the paint looked like old Humbrol (could be Airfix) gold I had a go with some enamel thinners. This was after about 10 minutes.

DSCF6876.JPG.d778944c0a9a4309e309c21ebe07642e.JPG

The thinner I used does not attack the glass, so I was able to remover the gold from the windows as well.

DSCF6877.JPG.8e79149b0ef1f8b7c845a39e192b88af.JPG

There are still a few bits that need attention but it is a lot better than the mess I started with.

George can now see out of the window when he goes to pick up Edna from the Bingo later.

Unfortunately the GB sticker was lost during the clean, and the silver trim was compromised by the thinner

Spot-Ons The Ugly

Two topless Crestas and a Midget impersonating a  boat.

DSCF6884.JPG.674765ab62ccd47bdcffcc8ee1a3b7f1.JPG

With some spares from evreyones' favourite parts supplier, the Midget could be restored.

Bentley and Morris Cowley.

DSCF6886.JPG.e6b0a9ddf8676d8fdd4524b3dbae241d.JPG

Bentley is missing wheels and Morris is, well, a Morris.

DSCF6887.JPG.24861e5ff8e3f490227c0ebe0cc15c52.JPG

A40, Goggomobile and Jag.

DSCF6888.JPG.f70314e58f266d888171da7defd3b32a.JPG

Jag is only a body and glass.

DSCF6889.JPG.06df60a504361addcd647dd5dc8cc579.JPG

Looks like someone has gone through the screen on the A40. The casting is good so it just needs a glass.

Goggomobile has bent base but is saveable.

Spot-Ons The Bad

PA Cresta and Jensen.

DSCF6892.JPG.9e2ece82a5084ac20b049558fe2dfa15.JPG

Cresta needs parts and a slight repair to a cracked a-pillar.

DSCF6893.JPG.32f19fed29fbc251d2e18e4ce2508eb5.JPG

Jensen just needs tyres and possible a repaint.

DSCF6894.JPG.ce4f6db9fd4d89bf7b2888273b0c6072.JPG

Land Rover and Taxi.

DSCF6895.JPG.37fe73bb2e8f077be15329359d2764e0.JPG

Tyres have reacted on Land Rover, this one is the worst.

DSCF6896.JPG.bc952998c42ca908b533a6a587501bad.JPG

Also roof has been heavily over painted.

DSCF6897.JPG.52fc29119e03c4c162658430ac608b8f.JPG

Taxi is cover in a green wash of some sort. I will experiment later with my thinners.

Spot-Ons The Good.

Bentley and Rolls.

DSCF6900.JPG.6ff0953f776fa6adf498bb3810f11c72.JPG

The metallic paint has not lasted well on the Bentley

DSCF6901.JPG.f561126093fff341a71ff73ea3d58cc9.JPG

It has lasted better on the Rolls, but the Spirit of Ecstasy has gone.

DSCF6902.JPG.a19aa73944490402997a49856596b62c.JPG

These did have the nearly the same colours. These are going to be left as is because I think they are too good to mess with.

DSCF6903.JPG.36d5809acfb916410c23db8772ebf326.JPG

I'm thinking the previous owner was inspired by the Bentley and Rolls when they repainted the Anglia.

DSCF6904.JPG.fadc7f18e2e0d09b088b9bb9b0ed92df.JPG

It's not a bad finish for a brush paint.

DSCF6905.JPG.02904f1553f649240a204ad61066efe0.JPG

Rear bumper has lost its corners.

DSCF6906.JPG.f9539709beb2e6d1fe93ac44f2001b61.JPG

If the roof had not been painted so heavily I might have been tempted to remove the green. This is a candidate for making into my dads old Anglia, the first car I remember travelling in.

DSCF6907.JPG.0baa7ed34b84890282b5c6b2cacdccd6.JPG

Best of the bunch is this pair of BMC ADO16 cars.

DSCF6908.JPG.97e3cdc281a4e6c3234270133fae7ba5.JPG

Morris has lost its front number plate.

DSCF6909.JPG.1f0628aae420a2e052f5105957b6841e.JPG

The bonnet does not stay up on its own.

DSCF6910.JPG.9ed8c12ac1da3d4a7e26338b865ef7cf.JPG

Rear bumper is good.

DSCF6911.JPG.b793e28bf0cc16625fa4148db79c07c5.JPG

I like the giffer style rear window defogger in the rear window.

DSCF6912.JPG.e8dc2230bbe978f7fe8f3999db1161f3.JPG

The rear window defogger continues the theme on the front screen that looks like the car is out on a rainy day.

DSCF6913.JPG.6e6de2e8d8bd83a046c4ba155acca3c8.JPG

The bonnet stays up on the MG 1100.

DSCF6914.JPG.70bd01f212edca513b97283f18e9af62.JPG

I thought for a minute did I have some kind of rare all red version.

DSCF6915.JPG.b591f7f899824ac822522fb85ad419a5.JPG

No I do not. On closer inspection some has done a good job of painting the lower parts and getting a good match.

DSCF6917.JPG.7c50dc61b9bc3608bfbbf89e9e8fb6d6.JPG

Still looks good though.

They certainly are. Generally they’re a chunk above Corgi and Dinky prices. Although they are often nicer models imho. There’s something about Spot-On’s that other brands don’t have. Somehow.

I was thinking about getting myself one, particularly the MG 1100 but at the prices they command it'll be a long time, if ever I get one.

They are definitely worth getting if you see them at boot sales or wherever at non eBay prices.
Even if the bumpers etc are broken, you can get reproduction replacement ones so it’s not the end of the world.

The 1100 is a great looking model too. I did have one but passed it on to @flat4alfa

The ones still here (somewhere!) are:

Rover P5.
Ford Zodiac.
Ford Zephyr.
Commer Walkthru.
Austin Cambridge.
Vauxhall Cresta PB.

All lovely models!

After looking at Ebay prices I still can not believe that no one else bid on the ones I got yesterday. I was expecting to get out bid with my limit being £60.

F**k me!😄

The trucks and bus are always expensive too if you can find them. Closest I’ve ever come was a wheel-less trailer from the Thames Trader (I think).

You did well on those. I’m surprised nobody else didn’t outbid you too. They’re not in bad condition either.

As Spot On have been mentioned and I was rather jealous seeing the bunch @MiniMinorMk3 got for a bargain price, I decided to asses my collection with a view to renovating a few of them.

First my childhood ones. I also had a Cresta PA and Armstrong Siddley Saphire but don't have them now and no idea what happened to them, also had an MG 1100 and an Anglia, both very bashed up and now with @flat4alfa

The Rolls was green and silver like one like @MiniMinorMk3 has just picked up. No idea what happened to the wheels of the TR3

IMG_1655.jpg.cbf8b6b6227eff81fa345c4e54c72de3.jpg

I'm thinking I'll restore the Thames Trader and try to match the original blue as seen underneath

IMG_1656.jpg.dc363febb329efa299335ef794b7ba80.jpg

Here's the ones I've picked up

A couple of nice Fords, I really wanted one to paint, but these are too good

IMG_1657.jpg.f065a3a18566be7d9b82fc04921e418f.jpg

I bought the grey Cresta intending to paint it like the one I had as a kid which was orange, but it has a blue interior which is unusual and wouldn't look right. The pink one I bought on ebay thinking it was the colour of my childhood one. It isn't! I may paint the grey one yellow.

IMG_1658.jpg.28958c2c710a49395e69d6a0277652b9.jpg

These are nice, but the Humber has a repro grill that looks too bright, I may try to dull it down by dry brushing it

IMG_1659.jpg.e0a49b1d6a28581ec1ea6a354c56a427.jpg

IMG_1662.jpg.e0657e4b7836a80fb8c1bd9ed02588e0.jpg

The PB Cresta and the NSU look quite good and would be better with some minor work

IMG_1663.jpg.f45a03dee79331cd5c5a0d288c9fb3d6.jpg

IMG_1664.jpg.18e9b6ba11088d972d98c33f19ebb4e9.jpg

I got this combo for Mrs Concern and have been meaning to paint a white stripe down the side of the Cambridge and tidy up the caravan, but not got around to it yet

Volvos

IMG_1666.jpg.07dcca878ffc21b3c88f7b47203b769f.jpg

I was intending to restore the Amazon, but the rally look has grown on me so I'll probably just fit a grill and re paint the bonnet in matt black a bit better

IMG_1667.jpg.e344ced4ba5bcadb4c6bafaf24dc7e90.jpg

My original 1800 was turned into a London Sidney Marathon replica by the young me so I had intended to paint the blue one I got from @danthecapriman red and keep the original one but replace the bonnet and glazing etc. However the blue one is too good and it'll stay as it is.

IMG_1668.jpg.ca38b98e0a6e95be81146d3497e82d43.jpg

I'll look out for another one in red or bad enough to paint

IMG_1669.jpg.998f653776d557111a1659564f535c93.jpg

These were all bought to replace lost childhood toys, the Armstrong Siddley will have the roof painted black, the others will be stripped and painted

Great effort on resurrecting your one!  Look like it need a bit of work to the optic looking at the 'missing' N/S rear light, but you are in luck :

Quote

100L Ford Zodiac white plastic battery box with connectors (no bulb) £6.00
100L Ford Zodiac battery box clear bulb      £1.30
100L Ford Zodiac clear plastic light delivery bar (front to rear internal part)      Each  £1.60
100L Ford Zodiac Red plastic rear light unit    Each  £0.90

The battery holder repros are a bit flimsy but work ok and cheap.  The one back here had to have one fitted yet otherwise great condition, unlike its Corgi sister example available on the day this shot was taken

Was going to get one for the Spot-on Rover P5 and make a good one of the two.  But both were also sold-on during last years long disastrous period of unemployability

Loved playing with this Spot On Rover as a kid (and still do to be honest) because of the brilliant suspension.

This car is fitted with Flexomatic independent suspension I love that text on the base.

Fantastic collection. I've only the one Spot On, the blue Landcrab. Does yours have Mum and son going to school (or maybe Church, they're in their 'good' clothes)?

No the people are missing from both 1800s and I don't remember the one I had from new ever having people, but there are holes in the seats showing they must have been there. I think I've said before that as a kid I always removed the people from my toy cars.

Nice Rover!

The suspension is a strange one on Spot on as I was always fascinated that some like the Landcrab had plastic springs moulded as part of the interior and some like the A40 Farina had tiny steel coil springs despite the leaf springs cast into the base!

The 1100 is a great looking model too. I did have one but passed it on to @flat4alfa

Starsky is very much still here!

First my childhood ones.

had an MG 1100 and an Anglia, both very bashed up and now with @flat4alfa

I thought in my head that MG 1100 had been restored now, as I knew I got hold of an outrageous donor of a transverse engine to fit sticking out.... but no, here it is STILL in its finest...

Goggomobile has bent base but is saveable.

Had one of those things, *similar wear and tear - but white roof though...   all FriskySports were convertibles so not sure why they went for white variation...

Apparently 13 of the FriskySports are known to exist, 5 of those over the pond.  Chad and Barbara loved their LHD plaything

Spot-On Goggomobil equally as scarce a choice of thing to model
