Here's a few from a selection that a friend gave me about a year ago, he found about 20 of them when clearing out a small office block.

What were they doing in an office block I wonder?

Who knows, apparently it was meant to be empty but wasn't and loads of interesting bit and pieces were found.

Where’s strangest place you’ve ever found diecast? Once found a MB Skoda in a camping shower block as a kid.

I found a HotWheels Dodge Viper in a playpark I was at with my sin and family in Aviemore about 10 years ago. It was in the trough underneath a trampoline and after spending about half an hour with a stick, I got it out. The place was empty apart from us and my son wasn't into cars so I kept it - still got it!

I also found a Hotwheels RX7 on top of a scrapped Rover 75 in a breakers. There was other kids crap in the back so this must just have got lost and found when someone took the seats out. I'm guessing it was perched on the scuttle in thehope someone would take it so I obviously did! It was in really good condition as well!

My small haul from @bramz7 arrived today. I'm very pleased with them.

Now, I've got to admit, as a model car collector, I like unusual stuff, normal, everyday road-going cars.

Many model makes of cars can be difficult to find or very expensive. However, sometimes you can find stuff you're not really looking for at good prices and end up with a haul of them. Case in point is 1.43 Renaults:

20240930_180912.jpg.c4ac4191b10a06afd35e6af1f627c3a1.jpg

I've never owned a Renault or expressed any desire to apart from maybe a Renault 14TL or something. But somehow, over the years, I've managed to amass this small collection of 1.43 Renaults. Some of which were bought at a French car boot sale when I lived down in the South for a bit 10 years back.

Others have been cheeky bids that I've won and now also from here. I'm glad I've got them and love them, but you'd think I was a Renault enthusiast from the amount of them (there is probably more but this is all I have at home)

Oh and this Matchbox Superkings Hilux was left on a shelf in QDs. Staff said they'd throw it away rather than keep it in lost property so it became mine. A very strange thing to find in a shop in 2024

I think the weirdest place I’ve found one is the soil on the ground of the woods I used to live near.
It was a green MC Toys Granada. I can’t even remember how I actually found it but it was very well buried in the leaf litter and soil under some trees/bushes.
I could probably walk straight back to the spot I found it now all these years later! Unfortunately the car itself isn’t with me anymore. It was in one of the big box full of my old toys that got sent to my cousin when she had kids. Most of which are now long gone!

Istr it was actually not too bad a condition when I pulled it out the ground. The axles had gone rusty and thin but the wheels still turned. After washing it and pulling all the roots and worms out of it, it was alright!

I was too weak to resist when I saw this new full set of Premiums in Sainsbury's this morning:

IMG_4202.JPG.639f4ff9f4b16c3169ec945e063b142a.JPG

I think we've seen numerous versions of the bottom three, but the top two look to be new castings and they are rather nice.

IMG_4203.JPG.14572e4130f64ad9f5149924b943a7e9.JPG

Apparently there's a black chase version of this 1960s Skyline.

IMG_4205.JPG.c193a6f7b69f6ea0d3b29f264316970a.JPG

1972 Corolla Levin is probably my favourite.

As often seems to be the case with new stuff in Sainsbury's they wouldn't scan, so they put them through using the code off an older Premium (sadly not a mainline).

@FakeConcern was it you that found the rare Hot Wheels Corvette thing in a suitcase job lot?

I'm just being nosey and ordered what happened with it?

Also, unrelated... I watched an episode of Wheeler Dealers the other day which featured a Chevrolet Camaro which looked great in the light blue metallic paint. I'm thinking of looking for a play-worn toy model to replicate it.

Yes that was me and it's still in the suitcase!

Mrs Concern wants me to put it on ebay with a BIN of £100 and I may do that for a laugh!

I did a Fake Corgi Firebird which is obv a similar shape to the Camaro in light metallic blue so you should do it

I’m an archaeologist so I often find old Matchbox cars when out excavating (or I did back when I wasn’t in the office quite so much). My favourite wasn’t actually a car either it was a Skybusters Stuka that we excavated from the upstream side of a 300 year old weir in Ludlow where I used to go to school. There was a footbridge above the weir where kids from that part of town used to walk to and from the school and for years had dropped or thrown stuff in the river. We found several old school ties, obviously chucked in on their last ever walk home from school.

Yup, the printing on the side has slipped downwards quite dramatically. And if anything, it's even worse on the other side, with a jaunty angle in the mix too:

Oops.

Ah well. I still like the casting anyway - looks kinda purposeful...

This dropped through my letterbox today from that Chinese site that I think I need to keep away from. Thought I'd have a bit of an exclusive... 😆

Its a little honey though, I was tempted by the '72 Civic, but I plumped for.this as I already have quite a few mainlines of the Civic and RX-3. Plus I've always had a soft spot for this shape of Corolla, as there was one across the road from our house  when I was a kid in the '80s owned by an old boy, and which had an ever-rising underseal tidemark until there wasn't much metal left on the lower flanks to apply the underseal to. (It got replaced by a frankly amazing K reg Reliant Regal, which had funky two tone paintwork and was crammed full of giffer mods.)

Local Smyths have actually had a bit of a restock, and there was quite a bit there. Had it not been for the fact the wife's Corsa has had to take the big yellow taxi to the garage yet again and I'm expecting a big kick in the balls when its done, I could have come out with shitloads,

IMG_20240929_110735.jpg.c6cb47e31f92a632e24f7bcad77aee5e.jpg

IMG_20240929_110739.jpg.e2de89c8bf0a7af6481d794ed17ea1c7.jpg

These two sets that Ive been after for a while (particularly the BRE Datsun set) were both reduced in price. They also had that 1/43 Hot Wheels AMG Merc 6.3 as well.

IMG_20240929_110857.jpg.7de2859d0ce03b92d85e17425f7e9713.jpg

Yet another Crass and Spurious set appears to have come out. I have to admit, that although I'd rather stick hot needles in my eyes than watch a F&F film, I do like a lot of the HW cars that have come from them. To my surprise, I found myself really liking the Bentley, and I came so close to getting that F150 Lightning, as it's gorgeous, and the Caprice isn't bad either.

IMG_20240930_011212.jpg.66870d33600aee5d271178e33355551d.jpg

But with a garage bill-induced one car limit, I went for this.

IMG_20240930_011247.jpg.21e7971cd9c89746fba15c78b8d1a51b.jpg

The SX is a lovely little casting (though I could live without the side skirts). I got quite a few of the mainline ones when they came out, but they were all in racing and drift style livery. I really liked the recent mainline release in plain blue, but with no chance of finding that one, this one was definitely coming home with me.

Yeah or urban plots , or even rural areas where kids liked to play. I sometimes use them as a good example of a datable artefact (seeing as most of them had a date stamp on the base).

I once excavated on a site in Cheltenham where there had been a car parts factor, the buildings still contained quite a lot of old bits, head gasket sets, seals etc of uncertain provenance. The site itself was no less interesting, I spent about half a day excavating what looks like an entire set of china crockery from a dump of material in the middle of the site. A quick bit of research revealed that the adjacent row of houses had been destroyed by a bomb dropped in 1940 which killed about ten people, so presumably the rubble and personal effects were dumped and buried on the adjacent site.

When I demolished an old shed in the garden years back, I started digging out the old concrete base and a section of soil next to it to make an even bigger concrete base for the current shed.
Turned out that whole corner of the garden was the final resting place for quite a sizeable percentage of a Morris Minor! I pulled all sorts out of the hole - hub cabs, bits of rusty wings etc etc. They must have just thrown all their rubbish into the hole when they built the original shed base and concreted over it. The amount of broken glass in there was incredible too.
No toy cars though!

I've found toys in odd places, when i lived in Holloway, North London on the walk back home from the station one afternoon there were loads of household effects left on the pavement with a help yourself sign, among them was a Corgi Bedford car transporter.

When i then moved into my old house in Finchley i found some playworn 70s Matchbox toys in the shed amongst various WW2 items left there by the previous owners!
