Going back to the small Ergomatics, it took me more than 30 years to get all six of them as MIB-ish Superfast:

IMG_9409.thumb.JPG.bab1198c7da7608e1069ec5e907496dc.JPG

I had the pipe truck and site hut truck when I was young. The former with its plastic pipe-carrying gear removed was just the right size for the later plastic containers. I presume they changed from the earlier cast-in metal spikes for safety reasons?

Very equitable in doing a 50/50 split between the Leylands....

And the AECs.

Now that's a surprise.  50:50 spilt AEC and Leyland.

It's a pity they didn't go further and include an Albion

Not sure, but it doesn't seem that Scammell used the Ergomatic cab, despite adopting the T45 cab later

I had the Bedford version as a kid, they seem quite common.

It’s the AEC horse box that I found most difficult to find out of all the small scale Ergomatic’s. No idea why, it just doesn’t seem anywhere near as common. Especially with the door still attached.
I’ve never seen the later speed wheel one though.

Miss SL's BF has had this set of Argos Chinese cheapies since he was young, and he was very fond of them (still is, for sentimental reasons). Full set inside in excellent condition, still in the plastic tray.

He brought them over at the weekend for a game of "Guess what the heck they're meant to be". I took photos tonight, will post them here at the weekend for similar puzzling fun.

Found a reasonable Superfast AEC donkey wagon in different (later?) colours just before Christmas, for £not that much.

It looks better in real life than in pics, for some reason...

Do you want the Lotus as well or just the trailer?

I think Van Cleemput says something about different drivers, not sure he points out they are different mouldings. Either way thanks for the info since if he does or not say I didn't know that!

To me they look like representations of Emerson Fittipaldi

and Ronnie Peterson...

OIP.ybJ78zYNAzoQ2uQeG1ApEgHaFj?rs=1&pid=

who drove for Lotus in 1973. Fittipaldi became champion in 1972 so had the number 1, Peterson was number 2 obviously.

Popped into both Chelmsford and Raleigh Smyths, as well as Entertainer. All had clearly taken delivery of the Pop Culture set, but of course the Escorts were nowhere to be found.

Usual masters of diecast disappointment, Tesco, actually had sone new stock, so if anyone is still looking for them, I have a blue T2, green RS2000 and two(!) Protons spare

Big and heavy, like all good toys. Probably lead paint too! Great for kids!
Odd though how Dinky did this in one scale then the Merryweather fire engine in another.

Interesting to see the Nissan set to the right. I got one a while back, one of the few 5-packs in my stash/pile/collection. Decent value even at £11, and I've seen it cheaper when on offer at other outlets. I can't think of many/any other manufacturer-specific ones that they've done?

Agreed. I got four of them back in the '90s for reasonable money (I was lucky to start collecting MIB Superfast when I did), but the fire engine took a while and the pipe truck evaded me until attending the big Brentwood toy fair last year. I say evaded, maybe it was that I found other things that I wanted more with the budget I had available?

I also have all three of the Dodge lorries* and the pair of GMCs.

*Surely it's only right to call British HGVs of that period lorries?

I'm going from memory here, but it's interesting to think how much of the 1-75 range was given over to commercial vehicles. Take 1970, for example (an auspicious year, it's when I was born). Peak Superfast perhaps? Anyway, if all of the Ergomatics were available simultaneously that's 8% of the range. Then there were the three Dodges, two each of Ford D-Series, DAF and GMC and sundry others. Maybe half the range, perhaps more?

Is it because they offered better play value? Lots of different things a lorry can do, whereas a car is 'just' a car.

Some of them must have cost more to produce than a car as well. Tipping mechanisms, extra parts like the scaffolding tower with the silver Mercedes truck, etc etc.

Thoughts?

No, they're usually an annoying mix of ones you want and burgers on wheels.

There have been Volkswagen, Corvette and Mustang sets in the past, not sure of any others

That made me laugh. Why oh why do they do so much rubbish stuff? A few, yes, but is there a need for so many? I bet most kids don't like them either.

The only other HW 5-pack I have that I can immediately think of is a Japanese-themed one, from memory they were all decent.

Edit: It might be a Matchbox 5-pack thinking about it....

Only joking, I’d happily collect items local  to me and forward on for fellow shifters.
