Shite in Miniature II

I'm sorting some old photos and found these from 2019. Again, I wasn't aware of this thread and undersold my Nylint trucks. I netted just under £20 for each one if I remember correctly. They were super clean too. Regrets...

I also found the photo of a pair of Trickshifters I sold, along with launchers. I struggled to sell these from what I remember but they're long gone now. Nowadays, I just prefer to stockpile shite, rather than sell things every five minutes....

Those trucks are cool. I grab the odd bit of tinplate if it appeals, never did work out who made this charity shop find though

Postman brought quite the haul today.

Warning, Vanguards content. No Fords though, for a change...

First off.

IMG_20230422_142858.thumb.jpg.02802ec6902dc4556d5ecb15ed070c3b.jpg

A Vanguards, but not by name, distributed by Atlas editions as part of a part-work British police car series. The same series as the MK3 Cortina GT I "de-comissioned" and boy-racerfied recently.

IMG_20230422_142947.thumb.jpg.29e35b13e7097b02d40ae113adf54d7a.jpg

Like the Cortina, this Marina seems to be one of the harder to find ones, and quite sought after, possibly because it's the TC version. I seem to have done well getting this one near-enough mint and boxed for less than a tenner.

IMG_20230422_143058.thumb.jpg.1699b2d1d196cd4ac22351ce89392232.jpg

I do love a Marina, both in real life and model form. It was getting the white 1.8 Super back in 2000 that really got me hooked on collecting Vanguards. It was a great casting and still stands up well today. The Atlas version, for a part -work cheapie doesn't really give much away to the more expensive Vanguards, apart from the slightly cheaper finish to  the pie dish wheel trims.

IMG_20230422_143432.thumb.jpg.e9748b8431fd832ec7128a2ec302a55c.jpg

However, I've always wanted a 1.8 TC in model form, and Corgi have only released one, the Citron yellow Jubilee version, and these go for strong money. Even on eBay auctions they still fetch over £30. So the Atlas police version is a cheap way of getting a TC.

IMG_20230422_143131.thumb.jpg.76669ecefbe473d75a186b577b3b428e.jpg

The TC grille on this is bloody brilliant and really sets it apart from the Vanguards standard ones.

IMG_20230422_143158.thumb.jpg.1746c66350e2149334def1e587a3fee7.jpg

Nice work on the TC and flying plughole wing badges.

IMG_20230422_150100.thumb.jpg.56cc6509b27a6ec2679aaacf0fe2dabc.jpg

Another TC badge on the boot and the TC specific black rear panel. Liking the add-on rear fogs too, something the standard Vanguards releases don't have.

So plans for this one are pretty much the same as I did with the Atlas MK3 Cortina. This should be a pretty easy job as there are only the Police logos on the door to remove, and the top sign/light. My experience with the Cortina taught me I should never approach a model car with paint, so after filling and sanding the hole, I'm on about experimenting with a strip of wide leccy tape to make a Webasto sunroof effect. Big let down with this model is it doesn't have the fantastic TC sports wheels, don't know if that was true with the real life police version to save money, but I'll probably get a set of something racier  from K&R again. Marina TC on slotmags?

From one white Morris with a roof beacon, to another:

Post Lady™ delivered yesterday.  It's by Centy, India and a model of the Hindustan Ambassador which I suppose most know was a development of the 1950s Morris Oxford, built in India for 57 years!  Wonderful वाह! वाह! (Vaah vaah)

IMG_20230420_210014.jpg.586df8144048808f77b466be85573f3f.jpg

It's plastic, sold as 1:32 scale and measuring shows it to be near enough.   With the round orange front indicators, it would make this a model the gen-6 'Classic' version 1998–2010 running the Isuzu 1800 engine, which made it the fastest Indian production car at the time.  Excellent!  उत्कृष्ट! (utkrsht!)

IMG_20230420_210024_1.jpg.9eca17f90ed4533fc2232e3490651aca.jpg

This one with the flag on the bonnet and red roof light is of a Lal Batti लाल बत्ती.  VIPs often used red beacons and sirens as a status symbol, leading to traffic chaos for commuters as it was misused by many as a way to ignore traffic laws and toll booths.  This practice of 'VIP culture' was banned across India in 2017.  Lal battis no more.  Oh dear ओ प्यारे (o pyaare)

QT-O-4-1024x683.thumb.jpg.c499612f875be732ffd62e66ae56b376.jpg

Anyway, it has opening things!  Well done शाबाश (Shaabaash)

IMG_20230420_210126_1.jpg.013e67d55f92e0836e4957e9f6716976.jpg

And some in-car entertainment for an Ambassador to enjoy, in an Ambassador.  Nice अच्छा (achchha)

IMG_20230420_210045.jpg.572e2aeabfe3b6d63e764ee436eab949.jpg

The original idea was to get hold of one of these, add motor and flashing light/siren circuit, for a unique slot car idea.  That was a while ago though.

Next, one that has never been that popular, but a nice unusual variant all the same,

IMG_20230422_140739.thumb.jpg.7ff2d729c0cdf0a6276f81e9e8ad7094.jpg

A lot of these Vanguards releases, that featured these re released yellow boxes circa 2009 seemed to pass me by at the time, luckily I've picked up a few reasonably priced items over the last year to fill a couple of gaps.

The Legacy was an odd addition to a range that had traditionally been almost all British cars of the '60s, '70s and '80s. Obviously it was one of the castings that was made primarily for the Motorsport variants, including the lucrative Colin McRae collection.

IMG_20230422_140957.thumb.jpg.1b2cff7424d47acaefa58fcc5337a930.jpg

The beauty of this packaging is that the model can be got straight out without farting about with a multitude of screws. As can be seen, in the re released yellow box packaging,  the separate mirrors were now in a recess in the insert rather than on a sprue, and the collectors card was similar to the old style.

IMG_20230422_142521.thumb.jpg.d3cbbeb534832d079adb9a6e1336af3a.jpg

IMG_20230422_141704.thumb.jpg.ab088ffb7750e8597636b8f1f2df29e2.jpg

However it's a nicely made and detailed model, the wedgy shape is well captured, the stainless effect  door handles and Legacy C-pillar badge are nice touches and break up the black.

IMG_20230422_141820.thumb.jpg.5f09f4d2171e84e48f14c9ebc074eb27.jpg

Lovely detail at the front, the headlights are better than  on some of the newer releases.

IMG_20230422_141745.thumb.jpg.8f9b6c8eaff15ebaf2241e84ed4d573e.jpg

And at the rear, the lights and appliqué look great and a neat twin tailpipe.

IMG_20230422_141121.thumb.jpg.2e6cd1e8a38f7a5c37fed10e65145268.jpg

The sport interior is also captured well. Unusually this one features a separately coloured dashboard (light grey) and seating (dark grey), normally Vanguards interiors have been single coloured up until very recently.

IMG_20230422_141506.thumb.jpg.d9b95035f3fc19bae7cb112b0f9ac70e.jpg

Nice Momo style wheel too.

IMG_20230422_142121.thumb.jpg.df7dbf548479a50a1afd9312d3f1560a.jpg

Not quite as mint as I'd hoped, the paint has quite a few imperfections that seem to blight older black Vanguards models, but for £7, I'm pretty happy.

I had no idea about those

I can understand the UK link, likely because it was ProDrive at Banbury who built the Subaru rally cars at the time

Vanguards McRae cars go for stupid money.

Third delivery today, and it's a bit of a holy grail,

IMG_20230422_160440.thumb.jpg.40517ef1855e0d5764ae4a17c84a0241.jpg

Back in 2004 when I got my real Allegro, I started snapping up the Vanguards Allegro models. It didn't take long to get the majority, as they were cheap and plentiful, (much like the real thing until the last few years!).

IMG_20230422_160645.thumb.jpg.4b8f65f6f90fce220aa703cd774f0323.jpg

After 12 different variants were got, I was left with the two most recent ones to find, the Tara green LE and Reynard bronze 1500 Special. These aren't as easy to get as the earlier releases and usually go for strong money. I had some decent overtime in last week, and got a BIN offer of £20 for this Reynard bronze one I've had on watch for a while, so thought what the hell.

IMG_20230422_161608.thumb.jpg.5dd6aa6a19fe4f9c7b0851f8b34bde0d.jpg

This one really is a mint example, both model and packaging wise, even the easily marked cardboard outer sleeve.

Most of the earlier Allegro releases were pov spec series 1s like Deluxes and Supers so by nature didn't have much in the way of exterior detail apart from badges and THOSE handles (very well recreated by Lledo/Corgi BTW). The two rally ones obviously had extra detail (including really well tampo printed rally livery) as did the range topping Lagoon blue 1750SS version. So this one, being the mid range Special also has a bit more going on,

IMG_20230422_160736.thumb.jpg.113b66128a954e3c56a0be68200cdaa6.jpg

This being a series 2, it has a different grille with the Austin badge inset. Apart from the green LE, it's the only Vanguards Allegro to get the lower front foglights. These look great, the clunky black housings are just how I remember them. (My own 1300 Super gained an Equipe front spoiler and foglights, as well as a set of 1750 SS/HL wheels...)

829_102396200647_547_n_zps1ff5878f.JPG.1c7bddec62fe91124a49beffefdef269.JPG

They even got the number plate font right, that font I seem to remember only 70s  BL cars having.

IMG_20230422_160802.thumb.jpg.5fce53df76fd0d9037450f270d2c6f90.jpg

Again, different to the standard Allegro fare at the back with the (unique to  the Special) half black rear panel, and the badging is spot on. Reversing lights are painted on, but at least they remembered to add them!

IMG_20230422_160920.thumb.jpg.bf74c187d27369eeea70c3806dd0499d.jpg

Vinyl roof was standard on the Special, nicely done here, along with the coachlines.

IMG_20230422_160824.thumb.jpg.a2921ff21863302605f50f63a4ed90fd.jpg

And with a bit of black paint, they've done a decent stab of recreating the sill covers and lower wheelarch protectors, introduced with the series 2.

IMG_20230422_161335.thumb.jpg.6fcc9ae4d7d29018d58223293538a33a.jpg

A few half-hearted bitches with the interior; They used the old pov spec series 1 interior so no head restraints,  good stab at the dash  (but the old two clock style) and they retained the quartic wheel! (Although I did retro-fit a quartic to mine...).

829_102396225647_1947_n_zpsbad37cd0.jpg.41e94455e63ec3e00d797726dbccb0c1.jpg

IMG_20230422_161014.thumb.jpg.0e30c38d16ba053ee6591915bcf6b72f.jpg

Another added to the Vanguards Allegro collection then, sadly as the only Tara green LE on eBay in recent times has a ROFL inducing £120 price tag, I might have a bit of a job completing it...

My wife has a work course today in Auckland, so was worried about what I'd do all day. Yesterday, she went shopping and bought some rather fancy (and admittedly nice) $not cheap clothes and also revealed she'd found some cash in her purse she didn't know she had...

Therefore, finding out last night there was a swap meet on today and going solo with 'bonus' cash in my pocket (I asked first), resulted in this mother of scores:

20230423_100038.thumb.jpg.84a719cae1a70af84d42e6925a8015fd.jpg

First up, a lady selling bundles of mags from her late husband's collection for £1 a slab! A fair wodge of the Wheels mags are from my wanted pile and they often sell for $4/5 each on Trademe (I don't buy at that price because miser), so 18 issues for $2 is a barg. Same for the 11 Modern Motors. Spent a few bucks more on the New Zealand Motoring News pile but I've never seen them before. Highly likely they'll be light on actual interest but the fella selling them was nice and chucked in a few extra mags, so happy days.

The Commodore centre cap is something I've been looking out for since my cousin put a hole in one of mine back in 2016, so very happy to nab for $5!

Anyway enough preamble - on to the die casts!

20230423_100054.thumb.jpg.269ef9ab6ff83bde6642377edf8799eb.jpg

Got giddy to find a Pilen Oldsmobile Toronado and thus it proved to be my most expensive buy (£12.50 - OK by Ebay prices, so it seems) - but find another in NZ!

Solido Golf was £10, which I think is fair, despite the actual finish of the casting being a bit crap.

Majorette Bernard log truck fished out of a random tat box for $1. Sure I'll find some suitable twigs to fill the trailer.

But I was mega happy to find 2 boxed 70's Sikus, a loose 80's Siku, Solido CX and Marklin Variant wagon, all for £15!!

20230423_103511.thumb.jpg.9ea7254c8141b239cd3dd6c01b04e36e.jpg

The glue from the Granada case is loose at one end, which makes it all the more remarkable that the case in the back filled with tiny road cones is still intact. And the VW is an absolute beauty and right up my collecting alley.

Shame it's all fire related stuff as I collect the makes/castings/era, not the subject but it's fire buffs who have kept this stuff in such good nick, so mustn't grumble.

So yeah, a sniff under £50 spent including entry fee but in all honesty, NZ is such a barren land of die cast tat, you have to grab what you can when it comes up.

And I still spent less than the cost of 3 blouses!

I was conscious of starting to not fully remember what I'd already got in the modern HW/MBX stash, and having bought a couple of extra boxes I had a bit of a stocktake:

Inevitably a few colour variations (particularly the Mk1 RX-7 and REPU) but pleasingly few true duplicates.

A selection put back on display (hanging under the big model cabinet, in front of me as I type) and the rest reboxed with a bit of 'room to spare' for future acquisitions.

Somerville did the Allegro 3 for diehard Allegro collectors. It came in various shade, and a police version. These do go for a justified £100, unlike the far more common Vanguards, which some people set dreamland prices for.

But weirdly it's the short-card 2023 case releases which are only 50p - the long-card 2022 case Matchbox with Chinese domestic market stickering on the back remain priced at £1.50.

The short-card items definitely weren't there last Friday, either.

Seems peculiar that Poundland are selling them so very cheaply. They must have picked them up for absolute bobbins.

Typically, there wasn't anything on the pegs there that I hadn't already bought a few weeks back at £1.75+...

Good spotting! Here's all the magazines collected today with Japanese cars on the cover:

Our sawn-off eared cat favours new things to sit on, naturally.

I need to give my magazine collection a bit of attention and also look to thin out the odd doubles I have, although I did sell a few off recently. There's something very comforting reading physical media, especially the nuggets of information you can find from period mags. Very happy to read classic car mags but old mags reviewing then current models seem to be a lot more honest! Well, post 60's, anyway; earlier issues of Wheels are quite fawning in their admiration of pretty much everything tested.

I'll very much appreciate the Sikus and indeed, can add them to the collection I bagged just before Christmas:

20221220_143212.jpg

Bit greedy of me to pick up a SECOND mint Granada wagon with all cones intact but I couldn't walk past a cheapie, especially boxed.

But yes, do remember that I definitely don't collect fire stuff...

They also had the new Car Culture series, I grabbed a Porsche and had the same problem as last time at the till - thankfully they let me scan one of the previous series through which worked

Worth having at 50p for the wheels!

Possibly - though that white Corvette was highly abundant in the Poundland 50p mix, and I think the Ford SUV was too (not very memorable, so hard to say for sure).

A few green Rancheros and Cycle Runner Nissan Hardbodies in there too, and lots of the red Renault Méganes and Nissan EV vans, so it's also mixed in with the previous early 2023 case if so.

I must be living in a parallel reality!

I have been out today to 3 towns, visiting 3 Poundlands.  Not one Matchbox, nor any pegs showing they ever did.  In one High Street Poundland the had 0 Hot Wheels, just empty pegs.  The others had sparse stock of Hot Wheels, max five pegs and a third full at most

In 2 of the towns I also went to their B&M.  Nothing new aside from loads of Pixar Cars.  Same old mainline stock from weeks ago, thinning.  No new Matchbox.

Waste of time and fuel...

This morning, went to the medium size field car boot with massive signs at the roadside.  It was shut again.

Despondent, went into a very large Cancer Research shop (which was packed) and found this Tonka

It was £2

Very nearly left it as the queue to get served was painful

Those long cards are from 2021.  That the red Dodge Sweptside, the first release colour

Likewise the Land Rover and Speed Trapper were same 2021 range

I wonder where they have been hiding.  And why they aren't the discounted ones.  I wonder if the peg pricing was switched by mistake

I'd have a fiver's worth of those with these wheels if I saw them at 50p

That’s why I didn’t switch my phone on today,😄

Stupid utterly ridiculous pointless waste of time and tax payers money in a country like this that alert system is. If we were in tornado alley in the US or somewhere prone to earthquakes, volcanoes or nuclear wars etc etc then I could see a point in it. But in little old Blighty??? No! Maybe the money used for that load of shite should’ve been channelled somewhere more useful? Like, maybe, paying our NHS staff a decent wage or bonus after getting the crap kicked out of them during Covid or something??
Maybe this sort of stupid common sense is why I’m not a politician!

Anyhoos,

I spotted a bundle of toys on eBay the other day going cheaply. Almost all of it was just modern plastic junk. But, there were a few diecasts peeping out of the junk that had a bit of ‘age’ and collectability about them so I swept them up!

They’ve just arrived, and, like I said almost all of it was absolute rubbish (unless you’re a small child who’d probably love them!) but I did manage to rescue these two.

Which were basically the reason I bought the bundle!
They’ve just been in a warm wash, hence the steamed windows, but they’re well worth having I think.
Matchbox FX4 is fairly recent version (2004) but it’s almost pristine and looks great so worthy of a place in my collection.
But the real star here is the MC Toys/Maisto Granada! These seem really thin on the ground for some reason and seem to come with premium price tags on certain places. This one’s got a few scratches and chips but it’s complete, looks good still and is probably my favourite colour of them. I had a green one as a kid and that too disappeared into god knows where over the years so nice to have one back!

Nothing at all from the car boot today except for this lion which Miss_155 felt sorry for 😂20230423_150833.thumb.jpg.12c3ad21ac01ac87280de8d6371a621c.jpgThe Mercedes came from Morrisons yesterday

I went to Poundland afterwards hoping to find some Matchbox for 50p,but no luck there either20230423_114449.thumb.jpg.340aaeb470e12522e9b648e5b88acfb4.jpg

Those trucks are cool. I grab the odd bit of tinplate if it appeals, never did work out who made this charity shop find though

search suggests that is a tin plate made by Ichiko of Japan.  This is the nearest to your car I have found.

Here is another example of a Dutch police all be it of a different American car.
