Yes I think only on the V6 & only front 1/4 bumpers on RS never rears.

The early RS2600s came bumper less & I think with plastic side windows from factory as gen homologation specials.

Does anyone remember a Matchbox Mk2 Cortina in a sort of metallic blue? I used to have one when I was wee. Can't remember what happened but I reckon it could have been given away with a lot of others.

I remember one in the little toybox at my grandparents, the front of the roof was caved-in but it still got played with.

I think the trader who I bought my stuff from yesterday had one if you feel like reacquainting yourself with it.....

I decided to use some of my unspent boot sale budget on this local eBay find, Mettoy Computacar. Looks to me like it's the Chevy Astro concept car

That bit of plastic at the back is off something else

I also found this while looking for images of MK1 Capris so I grabbed it too

The extra bit of plastic looks like a connector for the yellow Matchbox Superfast track

Interesting to see that comparison between the old and new Capris. New one looks a lot better, just somehow needs the front and rear valances to be done in body colour.

It's a shame the original wasn't done as crisply as the Mk2 Cortina.

I always felt that the original was far too upright and the big wheels were awful. I did have a beige Super GT version with much slimmer wheels and it looked great. Sadly I don't have that any more.

I much prefer the original Matchbox Capri.

Yes,the proportion is all wrong,the wheels too big,but it has a certain charm that the newer version doesn't.

That's the plan with the ex-yellow one. Body is painted and detailed but I'm waiting on some new wheels before I can finish the base.

I like both versions of the casting, the old Rolamatic is less accurate but more charming. I would have preferred the new one to have the earlier headlights but at least Mattel made it, eventually the Hot Wheels MK2 Escort will come out in the mainline and make me happy

The first editions which were not superfast wheeled were a  metallic brown, if I recall correctly.

Aye, I believe you're right. Those are the ones I saw on eBay as well. There's a very tatty one that I'd have loved to repair but I'll be damned if I'm paying just shy of a tenner for it!

The 1:36 Corgis came from someone else:

Although the actual car isn't my favourite Cortina, that little Matchbox was a lovely casting.  I had one of the brown ones from new because my dad had the full-size version, but I remember being somewhat upset because both Matchbox and Dinky chose to model the two-door, and our car had four.  Vanguards did the same thing many years later.  Now although all marks of Cortina had a two-door they were increasingly thin on the ground as the car's place in the Ford hierarchy became established.  You can get a model mk2 four-door (in 1600E form, naturally) but it's a hand-built, and hellishly expensive.

So I made my own, using a Matchbox model as the base, with the doors skimmed in P38 and a new B-post slightly forward of its previous location.  It's not perfect, but as a memento of my dad's last brand-new car (1967) it's good enough.  I think it's even possible it was the brown one that I had from new.

I used to have an OCP Taurus when I was a kid. It came with a RoboCop figure. Nostalgia!

I have the blue one and I agree it's a lovely casting and one of my favourite MBs from that era, along with the VW 1600TL and the Zephyr MK4.

A couple of new bits in Smyths

I only bought one, there's a chase car to look out for if anyone else spots the set

The current Mrs BB has been asking for ages if she can customise a toy car, she chose this Kool Kombi. I'm actually rather envious of how it's turned out, I did a couple of bits like the masking up but she drilled it, sanded and painted the body and did all the detail work.

Now I need to find another one to do as I think it looks great!
