Wazza, do you have locations for these pics? I'm tempted to go on another now'n'then mission.

Tesco are trying to get permission to build a store in the centre of Aberystwyth. I'm well pissed off.

If they offered to build Aber a proper by-pass, maybe they have a chance. Otherwise it will just make the terrible traffic even worse.

The local traders denied Marks and Spencer a chance in the 1980s, now they would beg for a flagship store like that in the centre as it dies on its feet. Is the parking still a free for all due to no traffic wardens?

Excellent photos these, really enjoying them. Keep it up chaps!

I've some more 1980s pics around Allerton Road to lob up later. The problem is L18 has always been a wealthy area so not much urban decay.

Oh I've seen some! I used to deliver to a primary school just off the junction of Allerton Road and Queens Drive, and some of the surrounding houses were... daunting, to say the least. And this is within the last decade.

Thanks for the piccie of my old home. I have never seen such a beige house.

The old lady in number 5 had an old piano that she used to let me hammer away on the keys. There was a hippy bloke about 10 houses to the right that had a full on church type organ in the back room. It sounded awsome, real Hammer House stuff. Had my first kiss at age five courtesy of a little girl called Donna who then wanted to marry me.

The Seamen's Mission was a cool place. They sold bloody good pies there. I would walk over after signing up for a ship at Mann Island just across the road. I did my lifeboat traing in the docks there and chemical warfare training at HMS Eaglet (RN shore base) just down the road.

Mann Island and the Mission is just one bit lump of coffee bars and so on now. Such a shame.

Thanks again for the pics and updates.

This thread is absolutely fucking marvellous (well, apart from the Gala sheds). Thanks for the pics, can't wait to see more! 8)

You're working me into the grave Luxo! Let's see some of your home town!

Here's another load of old Liverpool photos.

As Pete M was good enough to scour Merseyside for updated locations I thought I'd start with a pic of a plod RS2000 that he might of owned.

I've got some more old photos if anyone's interested.

Some great shots here, this place above is still here and I go past it quite regularly, that particular bit hasn't changed all that much:

Warren, I had posted some on the childhood buses thread, but there were no comments- don't think anyone was interested!

Understandable, really, as it's easier to relate to the town down the road than some weird land at the other end of the continent.

However, I'll see what I can do for you! There isn't that much on the internetz...I'll ask a few people who are into this kind of thing and see what I come up with.

Liverpool in the 70's and 80's was rammed full of car sales pitches.

The one on Allerton Road, "Martindale and Carlisle", I was there quite often as a kid. Remember seeing a brand new 260Z in there, jumping in it all impressed with it and generally liking it. So my dad borrowed it for 20 mins and we took it for a spin up to the Jolly Miller and back... I still have a soft spot for those.

My favourite garage to visit is hard to choose. Rushtons on Lark Lane was a good place to be, always rammed solid with Rolls Royce type stuff. There was a VW specialist, Valiant Motors in Waterloo? who built Formula Three cars and I think did quite well with them.

Somewhere I've got photos of my Grandad (who died in the 1930s) on his pushbike around various bits of Liverpool. He worked for the Gas Board at the turn of the 20th century and occasionally took photos of some really 'unmanaged' bits of town.

A few random pics of old Liverpool I've found around. I like this one.

I love this. I love that next door to Ahmed Alwin, there is 'Dave the Dental Mechanic - Artificial teeth repaired':lol:

I bet it was just a bloke with a tube of superglue...

Shame there's no 260Z demonstrator outside!

I think they were on Bleasdale Rd. Not sure what's there now.

TWO Anglebox estates!! There's about as many left on the road now...

And a great plate on the saloon to the right; when we used to visit my grandparents in Llandudno in the 70s, there was always an increasingly decrepit mk2 Consul parked on Trinity Road (never saw it moving and it was always in the same place!) registered 4444 K.

Ok, after a hard weeks graft there's nothing a scouser likes to do more than load up his FSO 1300 with deck chairs and a couple of unruly children and head through the tunnel for a day out at New Brighton. Lets see what joys await him.

Here's young sophisticate Dave and his lovely partner Julie enjoying the sunshine courtesy of his amazing mk3 'tina. I hope it's a 1300.

Chantelle and Gavin adore French culture, like French cars and French fries. It must be their GSA in the background.

nb2.jpg

Dorothy and Derek love their Bitsamushi Balanceshaftedcheapjaplagerheap so much they wont stray more than a few feet from it.

nb3.jpg

Here's a 1978 picture of New Brightons world famous pier. (being demolished). PHAKT! When the owner of that air cooled VW got bored with it at dumped it behind some garages a few years later a young Master Claim used to play in it with his scally mates.

nb4.jpg

Same location but about 15 years earlier.

nb5.jpg

Here's another pic of the pier being demolished with a bonus Commer van in shot.

nb6.jpg

This large open air swimming pool now looks very much like a Morrisons supermarket. The car park has a 0% Bedford Rascal content.

nb7.jpg

1972ish for the next photo and you'll all be pleased to know that the Cycle and Pram Exchange are still in business, doubt they still have that fantastic slidy door Transit though. Note the Firenza but lack of mk3 Cortina content.

nb8.jpg

That rounds up our day out in New Brighton. If you want to see any more pics let me know.

This is top stuff! Got any of Southport? I have a few, but mostly as background to assorted cars. Must dig them out and scan a few. Keep up the good work!

Where in the hell did you get these pictures ?

I've looked on Wiki Wirral and not even a hint as good as these !

Liverpool Road, about 1990; out of shot to the left is the Crown Hotel*:

ChevetteV-vi.jpg

I'll dig out some older snaps over the coming week, these are just a couple I had in my computer already because these were my cars.

*For anyone old enough to remember the West Coast Cruisers way back in 1977-80, the Crown is where they used to wind up on a Tuesday night after "cruising." It didn't take long for the "cruising" bit to be eroded so much that everyone simply went to the pub anyway. Most disappointing to a youthful enthusiast who lived around the corner! Who might that be, I wonder?

Shouldn't a V plate Chevette have the later front end with non-recessed headlights :?:
