Good work there Trig. There was a documentary about the Professionals some time ago, and one of the production staff said that they got fed up with BL because they kept giving them different cars, and continuity was nigh on impossible.

Posted

Good work tigger san :D

I love that F88. :D:D:D:D:D

I may be talking bollox, but when Ryder came to the UK in the early 70's they wanted to use UK trucks, so started off with Seddons, but they ended up being shite. So that maybe why there is an F88 in their colours...

Re: use of BL Cars in the first few episodes, the production company was the same as for The New Avengers - there was initially an ongoing contract in place for the use of BL Cars. This was soon ended and replaced by a contract with Ford, for a couple of reasons that others have alluded to - one is that the BL Cars as supplied weren't very reliable and the second is that BL delivered different cars (different trim levels can be worked around, different colours cannot!) sometimes (being diplomatic) so Continuity was difficult.

And MOO 229R was actually MOO 229P plus a bit of black insulation tape, from memory. This wasn't the only time they tried this trick, but it worked on screen so SO WHAT??? :D So much more "down to earth" than having a collection of 'non-issued plates' that modern production companies have nowadays ;) .

There's a dedicated website on this stuff :) .

I enjoy watching the Professionals whenever it's on - and it's been a good Xmas thus far on the haunted fishtank :D ...

Here's a mission for you. I scrapped A Cortina 2.3 VHK473S about 20 years ago. It was in the Sweeney, I imagine it made it onto the Professionals.

Partly so; they did have Seddons (I've got an old Ryder poster from that period which shows 2/3/400 series), but the F86/8's were being built from CKD's at Ailsa Volvo in Irvine. So that might be why there were Volvos in the fleet.

this one?

Yup. Dammit. Had a 2.8i in when it died. Thing that killed it was pretty spectacular rot around the sunroof. That and the fact it was only worth £50 at the time.

that screen grab is from the Tom Bell series 'Out" (Thames Television 1979)

Great work Trigger please keep them coming. If we can do requests I am looking forwards to the Vauxhall Victors that were used and the action shots of the Cortina estate with the table on the roof.

Posted

Brilliant stuff Trig, cheers for sharing and keep them coming please!

That S1 XJ6 is a rum un, I think they went to to the S2 in about 1974/5 and that one seems to be registered in about 1977/8 looking at the plate.

Posted

Looks like it has two rear plates, one stuck over the other. Possible import? In those days that meant you got the current year letter, not an age-related mark as is the case now.

The bridge where the boat comes a cropper is, co-incidentally, given the name of Bodie & Doyle's boss, near Cowley, just south of Uxbridge! That part of Cowley is often called Little Britain.... A pub nearby, the Paddington Steam Boat, is worth a visit if you're in the area.

Didn't reconise it as local but just In case anyone does pop dowm for a beer it is The Paddington Packet Boat (Packet Boat Lane), out of pedant mode, there used to ba a couple of scrapyards/low rent workshops down there.

Mmmm. Brown MkIV Cortina 2.0 Ghia Estate with a tan vinyl roof, towbar and Rostyles. Be still my beating heart.

I have uncontrollable lust for one of those. Preferably with the light beige velour interior. Just like that one. OM NOM NOM.

They're not ROstyles. They're "Tinilites"

This is a ROstyle. So called because they were originally made by Rubery Owen (RO)

Just called GL rims where I am allthough I did notice on here they can be refered to as Dartboard rims.

Posted

Yes they did, but it's a bit generic, isn't it? I rather like the idea of them as "dartboards." Where I come from they were known as "bubblies."

Posted

I always called them GL wheels, even though my uncles Capri 2 1600L had them (before he fitted them shitty white Weller steels)
