Worst Bus still run these in Aberdeen. They sound like they're about to explode at any second. They make a hell of a racket whenever they go past, like a cooling fan (or a jet engine) going at full whack.

4 of our new ADL Enviro400 MMCs arrived today, YX20 OEB/E-G to be East Yorkshire 923/6-8. Will get pictures when I am next in Hull. 922/4/5/9 are due to arrive next week.

Aldridge Transport Museum is shut until 11 August, but in the meantime here are some slides of vehicles not normally on show :)

There was a period of about three months in 2012 when they actually had the thermostats working properly on nearly all of the B10BLEs - the exception being 62220 which was still sucking innocent bystanders off the footpath as it passed by and belching truly epic clouds of black smoke because it had a huge boost leak.

About a month later it was back to business as usual.

The fact they have lasted anywhere near this long with the utterly shocking maintenance regime First have given them truly is testimony to how sturdy the B10BLE is as a bus.  Even in the state they're in there they actually drive nicely so long as you blank out the horrendous clatter from the front suspension from your mind.  The ones with the Wright bodies always seem to drive better than the Alexander ones, no idea why given it's the same chassis under it.

62139 (X618NSS) was the one I probably did the most miles in, presumably because it was only needed on the branded route during peak times.

X618NSS.thumb.jpg.5b579482b89631f4f28453f1566825d1.jpg

This later reappeared in a sort of pseudo heritage livery...Which they got into hot water for as it had the Aberdeen City crest on it, and they'd not checked with the Council first and people got annoyed - especially as ACC weren't on the best terms with First at that point...so advertising panels were abruptly slapped over the crests!

600050953_X618NSS-1-1.thumb.jpg.750db41b2259f2a90fd3e80c0282ef40.jpg

...Not before I snapped a photo of it in the wild though.  Apparently quite a feat as it was only out like this apparently on a handful of runs before duct tape was applied prior to the ads.

That's an accurate description of the entire Worst Bus fleet these days. Properly horrendous.

Applebys you say? Saw a few of them when on holiday in Scarborough in 1999 including the random collection of open-toppers they ran along the seafront.

For the first time since March 23rd, all of our school buses are back on the road tomorrow morning.

Went round and did the oil and water on them all this morning, fuelled them all yesterday. They're as ready as they're going to be.

I've got my 975k-mile Volvo B12B back for this school year, it's been scrubbed and disinfected.

Wish us luck.

Small world...P865GND.  If memory serves, Volvo B10M-55, Alaxender PS and ex-Stagecoach Bluebird.

Spent a good few hours on it on the 307 when I commuted into Aberdeen by bus - which means no later than 2006.  Makes me happy to know she's still on the go!

And here's another one. Fleet number 706, named Dave Wallace after an Elloughton driver who died in 2005 around the time the bus was new.

Two weeks in and so far, so not dead.

Had a Q-type yesterday whilst mine was off for a four weekly but I neglected to take a photo so here's my Panther B12B after my usual Wednesday afternoon run.

Two of our new ADLs, both are for the x46 Hull to York run. All 8 have bike racks on board, the first in the fleet, also no mirrors they have cameras instead.

There was a good reason for the five point turn in our local high street. The road ahead was blocked by a serious rta.

That last photo is of the first production Daimler Fleetline. New to Blue Bus and passed to Derby Corporation in1976, the same year it, along with many other fascinating buses were lost (Cummins V6 engined Fleetline anyone?)

I worked as a driver for Tailby and George aka Blue Bus Services back in the late 1960's. Prototype Fleetline 7000HP  had a Cummins V6 engine which spent more time in the workshop than on the road as did the Daimler Roadliner with the same engine. 324 pictured above was the fastest of the Fleetlines and was a pleasure to drive; it spent its life on the Derby Etwall Burton run whereas 7000HP was left on the more leisurley Derby Repton Burton route. I was only there for a couple of years and remember being deeply upset when I heard about the fire at Willington depot. Lovely company to work for and lovely passengers on the 2 stage carriage routes. Sadly I have no photographs to submit.

So now the West Midlands hums and whines to the sound of electric buses once again after a gap of 50 years. This time there are no wires in the air and the electricity is safely* stored on-board.
There are running on one route (the No. 6 ) in Birmingham and there are now some in Coventry on a route somewhere, apparently.

While trying to avoid this human malware, I have been going through my print collection. Low and behold this fine specimen I photographed around 1991 or so when a band of us were scurrying around trying to photograph the last surviving "Jumbo" Fleetlines of WMPTE.
This one was with the Wickford Majorettes as their transport to events in the locale. It went on to be preserved and is now owned by some drummer, apparently.

I had to look-up the electric bus - it's a BYD ADL Enviro400EV. The batteries and motive power are Chinese, the body and interior fittings are British. This picture on the ADL website is intriguing. It's obviously in a London livery, but it was registered with an East Yorkshire number (YX) and the background looks very much like Scarborough, which begs the question - are they made at Plaxton's works?
