Well fellow autoshiters i have a feeling this ol Renault is worthy of the title, yes i admit she's a bit scabby here and there but i forgive the ol girl because of the other ways im rewarded with ownership. Column change gearbox is wonderful, alloy engine is very nippy and economical, the comfort is second to none. I originally purchased this car in 2001 but ended up being tempted by the right deal 4 months later, my friend then owned the car for a number of months until he started getting running issues from the engine. The renault was then sold to another friend of mine and it sat from late 01 until i managed to nab in back in feb 11. I managed to squeeze the car through an mot but the engine was giving me some real problems. Mike Stokes the Renault 16 specialist came to the rescue with a rebuilt engine that was sitting in the corner of garage doing nothing, best £175 i spent because the car performs very well indeed. I am hoping to make a start on the bodywork bits and pieces and a respray wouldn't go a miss. I would love to get my hands on another renault 16 to keep this one company 8)

Welcome, and that car fits in well here.

I am jealous. Still, good for you.

I like these though I've never been in one.

Votre voiture est formidable! :D

I remember seeing an identical car to yours at Universal Salvage Auctions (now Copart) in Sandwich in mid-2000 with minor rear end damage. Perhaps it was yours?

Noice! And welcome aboard.

What does the sticker on the back window say?

"Ceci n'est pas un voiture - C'est un art de vivre" equals "This is not a car- It's a way of life" in French, or something similar. Very Magritte :)

It most certainly was, a car breaker told me about it and said he would find out a bit more on it, never did though and a little while after i put an ad in the local rag for a Renault 16 wanted. A fella near Whitstable phoned me up and said he had a really tidy 16, i had a look and and noticed a damaged rear panel and a universal salvage key tag so the penny certainly dropped there. Apart from the rear damage it was a very presentable car, it has its bits and pieces now of course as it spent a long time in an old garage, ive had to replace a rear chassis section and a bit of rear floor but im so glad to have her back. By the way the french words on the back window translate to "not just a car but a way of life"

Well I bloody never! :D:D:D

I'm so glad that the car has survived and is being cherished. I thought at the time that it was far too good to break, as R16s were rare birds even then, especially silver ones. I recall that someone had scrawled '"Star Car" on its windscreen with white pen alongside its auction number, so I had an idea it would go on to better things ;)

Glad that I got the gist of the sticker; although I got an A-grade in GCSE French, that was in 1994, and I'm now well out of practice, as I don't get to France as much as I'd like...

There is a lot of love for old French cars here so you should settle in nicely. Put your feet up, have a cup of tea and make yourself at home.

What a stunner! A 16 is next on my list of cars to own before I die - Citroën DS was top of the list but I've got one now (or most of one) so the 16 is next. Might end up having to go to France for one though...

That dashboard is not unlike the one in my 6, only bigger and with fake wood. Centre console is interesting - I assume it's a later addition?

Cheers that looks a comfy place to be and is that column change?

Is the Sunbeam yours as well? They're a lovely-looking car.
the sunbeam alpine was mine, not a bad car but it needed some bodywork and i needed some cash and well we all know the rest :(

Peteh has only been with us for 5 posts and is already a megastar.

That Renner is lovely - welcome aboard - definately Autoshite (anything French pretty much automatically qualifies - especially the ubershite new ones) definately NOT Chod.

Now, to really prove your cwedentials Gwasshopper you must twead the Road of Chod and compliment your excellent Wennah with a Mk1 Xsara oil burner in faded wed with two missing wheel twim, a cwacked bumper and a wiwa coat hanger fow an aweial! :D

Mon dieu  c'est vraiment une belle voiture. 8)

All the very best with the old girl. :D

Renault's finest hour IMHO. Wonderful looking cars, a great aunt of mine had a new one many years ago and it set a lasting impression.

Superb. These are so nice to drive too. The only thing putting me off buying one is the rampant corrosion. I should have bought one while I lived relatively near Mr Stokes!

Better than anything I've read on a Land Rover!

"Une vie - on la vive"?
