After the assassination of JFK the car returned to the builder to be modified. When JFK used the car, leased from Ford for $500 a month, it was not bullet proof. The car had removable roof sections but as it was a hot day in Dallas, and there was no air-con in the back, JFK went top-less on the fateful day. 

The car was then bullet proofed and a permanent fix roof was fitted. LBJ also ordered it to be painted black. The car was used by LBJ, Nixon, Gerald Ford and retired in 1977 under Jimmy Carter.

Apparently the gunmen opened fired from behind, he was ambushed while parking his car. Fici was a fairly low ranking member within the mafia, which might explain why he was driving a Taunus TC2 1600...
