I think the old Panda vans are GR9! Block up rear windows, remove tailgate, replace with bit of shed, job done.

Land Rover have a habit of making a successful van from a 3 door shell and then replacing the model with a 5 door only shell.

The Series 2 Discovery was the same.

You do get extra storage in the footwells though.

They built a Range Rover van back in the 70s.

But not on the later models, not from the factory anyway.

There's a company who converts Sports, RRs, D3/4s, Freelanders to vans for tax reasons.

And over in Americaland there are taxes advantages for businesses running vehicles over a certain weight, so a Suburban/Expedition type large SUV with a 5/6/7 litre engine is cheaper to run than a small 4 cylinder petrol car.

Now I don't think seat removal and blanked out windows are required but I did see this in NYC 5 years ago with stickers claiming it had "no rear seats".

I look forward to an Evoque van with steel wheels...

I remember back in the 80s, the company my father worked for made a Golf GTI (mk2) van to avoid paying some taxes on its use.

The conversion consisted solely of metal plates in place of the rear windows that were sprayed in the same colour as the bodywork. It still had its rear seat, belts and interior trim!

They had to put the glass back in after HMRC saw it.

I also saw a Citroen BX estate in Belfast about 12 years ago that had a single panel where the rear windows were but still had visible door shuts in the body work. I suspect such things are common in France.

Here's a rare one that was actually sold in the UK in very small numbers...

I've seen a 3-door Focus van round here a couple of times, but guessing it's some sort of conversion?

No these are actually factory built. MG Express. I know a guy who has a Rover 25 version which he's saving for posterity.

Here's a Citroen BX van. They were built for the Irish market and were indeed converted from estates.

They look worse in real life!

Ian, isn't that one (pictured) owned by a lad in the Midlands (sort of Derby-ish iirc) somewhere? I'm pretty sure it's the lad who bought the 16V that Vanny and I briefly owned as the van was there when I dropped the valver off?

Is that a genuine Ford jobbie, it looks brilliant?

I believe there are people on here with a hard-on for the Citroen Xsara van we got here.

The most fucked-up van has to be the BT-issue Ford Ka van. Seriously, I could fit more in the back of my Xantia.

As if they didn't productionise that Sierra van! That looks ace, and would look even better without the hump in the roof.

Whoops. soz.

Think we've already had that one mate, funny nonetheless.

well what else would you deliver champagne in?

That Rolls is ace.

Can't remember if one's already been posted up, but I'd totally forgotten about these. Why did Ford bother when they already had a proper Escort van?
