Triumph Sales Directory

Hi guys

 

I am currently researching all the history of the Triumph Sales Directory (all the dealerships and distributors throughout the UK)

In particular I am looking for Dealership information for:

 

George Ace Ltd,Mann Egertons of wimbledon. and Archers Ltd of Shirley,Solihull (if anyone has any information covering any other dealers etc please post!

 

I am also very desperate to get hold of any photographs of Dealership stickers.

Hallo and welcome.

 

The Walsall Triumph dealers were Hewitts, in Wolverhampton Street and were next to the canal near the junction with Pleck Road; anything that you see with a *DH registration would have been sold by them. They closed down a few years ago and the site has been derelict since then, but now some cheap and nasty 'Urban Regeneration' project is springing up there

A bit of digging suggests the Truro dealer was called Hicks. They were a BL dealer so it was an all encompassing shite fest no doubt! The sea air and big hills meant it should have had a busy warranty department, with a good bodyshop and a clutch specialist on site. All those bloody Toledos!

Well after spending the last hour in the garage I've came up with these few, They aren't a lot of help apart from the Mann Egerton one but they might still be of interest.

 

They are all from 1970's Motor and Autocar magazines which are full of old adverts, sadly most of the ads and dealer list are for foreign makes like Lancia, Alfa and Renault.

 

 

 

 

 

 

And this period LPG advert was quite impressive, I didn't know that they was fitting them back in the mid 70's.

In the other Mann Egerton photo with the Rover 3500 it has the full address of the garages as well including you Wimbledon one but It hasn't come out clear enough to read.

The first photo uploaded -states the mann egerton dealership area address and contact number (however not the full address as you say) if you could take a picture of the finer print (whenever you have a spare minute) i will be very grateful.

 

If anyone has anymore information please step forward.

This is going towards making an archive in the triumph dolomite forum (which covers all triumph saloons)

Here is some information you can have. Dealer history by a helpful member of the Montego/Maestro board.

 

My Herald was supplied by Harris Motors, Glastonbury Road, Wells, Somerset, BA5 1QE. Reg Harris, the owner, retired to Spain sometime between 1990 and 1992, leaving the business to his two sons. The dealership, by now Wells Rover, closed down a couple of years later.

The garage that I did my apprenticeship at was a small Peugeot dealearship but it had been a Triumph agent prior to this. They were Hall Brothers (Motors) and probably ceased selling Triumphs around 1976 . They had a showroom on the Uxbridge Road Hillingdon and a workshop in The Greenway West Ruislip.

In Southend, the dealerships were Oasis Garage in Sutton Road, who were Standard-Triumph up until the late 1960's when SMAC's (Westcliff and later Priory Crescent) took over the franchise. Anything with an HJ or JN registration would have been supplied by them.

 

My A35 was supplied by Frost Bros in Hornchurch!

Drive through Thatcham on the A4 towards Newbury, and there's a Subway on the right just after the lights. That site used to be Keene's garage who were a Truimph dealer in the 60's and 70's. We rented a unit there 20+ years ago and the main workshop is still there. The Keene brothers drove Triumphs-one had a 2000 saloon and a Herald whilst's the other had a 2600 Rover SD1.

 

3 miles down the road was Nias, an Austin Morris dealer and in Thatcham centre, Browns who were an Austin dealer. Both traded this way until the late eighties.

I have been posting these up in the dolomite forum and must now have at least 150 names and places! and 50 photo's at least.

 

If anyone else has any information on any triumph dealerships or photographs of any dealer or distributor stickers please post them.

 

I am hoping to make a new sticky on the triumph dolomite forum,so this becomes an information base about dealerships,which will hopefully be very beneficial to many present members and members in the future. So any information and photo's are much appreciated!

Hmm, I was wondering,

In the last days of Triumph (TR7 and Acclaim) were there any Triumph specific dealers left? Or did they all turn into generic Austin-Rover Dealers?
