Expected to do more milage due to changes at work so needed something a bit more reliable, it had 55K on the clock when I got it and was very clean.

They're not everyone's cup of tea but I've always liked Audis.

OOf, I' love these :) Had 2 as dailies and never any problems. Would have another in a nanosecond. Was getting 46.6MPG on new rapeseed oil, until the price of that went to the equal of Diesel.. :( Yours would be the pre Sacco board one which I prefer and are getting hard to find now.

It's hard to be picky when buying chod, but I much prefer the pre sacco-board ones too; I think the 190 can easily look desperately chavvy which the sacco boards don't help. Thankfully mine turned up at the right price, and although it looks scabby in places is actually rather solid.

Did you manage to get 46mpg out of a 2.5? I'm going to have to stop hammering mine...

I was going to say it's many years since I last saw a 190 as old as the one my mother had in about 1988. It was a 190D (D54 DHA), and she loved it. My dad, too, it is the only car ever that he didn't want to alter in any way. It still holds our family's record time (4hr15m) for the Hastings to Haworth journey. I don't think we'll ever beat it now.

Aye, they're aren't many early 190D's; I think they held back the introduction until after the W124 was introduced, feeling being that no one would buy the (leisurely in the extreme) W123 diesel with the (somewhat) more sprightly 190D on offer. I guess survival rates are only moderate given that they tended to do mega miles then go to Africa...

I cerainly can't recall having seen a diesel earlier than mine for years.

Just had to google Sacco board.

It is the plastic panels on the bottom of the doors.

Just incase anyone else was wondering......

Also doing good regular service is this Rayleigh racer. Makes me feel I earn those beers and kebabs.

That's a lovely bike. You can't beat a proper steel frame.

Much as I'd love something sporty and bonkers, I can't help but be practical when it comes to choosing cars. I chose the Focus because I wanted -

1) A five door hatch

2) Engine no bigger than 1.6

3) Reasonable maintenance and insurance costs

Erm, I was. I pretended I wasn't, but I was.

Thanks! I never knew that I owned a Sacco boarded car before!

A bit boring. I fancied a Japanese(ish) car with about 1.6 litres but never gave the Nissan Almera much thought, despite my sister already having one ( 1.5 'Flare') and being extremely happy with it.

It was up for sale at the local Kia dealership. Coincidentally, this is the same dealership that SpottedLaurel has a picture of on his flickr account as a Datsun dealership back in 1974! They had a Citroen C5 HDi up for sale which roused my interest but really it was too big for my needs. Funnily enough, the Almera was parked right behind it. I had my 'Parkers' price guide and soon discovered that it was the top model in the Almera range and thus had more kit on it than I needed, including 6 speed gearbox, climate contol and sat nav! 8) I never had a blue car before, so that was a bonus too. :)

The 2.2 litre engine with 136 bhp was rather excessive but at the age of 33 and having never owned any car with an output of 78bhp (when new!), it was about time I had a little bit of fun with my next car! The diesel fuel economy played devil's advocate to the fun of a car with decent performance. And also with it being a Nissan with a perceived 'pensioner' image, it might make the insurance more affordable compared to say a VW Golf GT TDi, Audi A3 TDi or Alfa Romeo 147 JTDi. :D

My current daily is the Rover of Doom.

DSCF8204.jpg

It's just pretty much perfect in every way. Looks rough as a bear's arse but is comfortable, has all the equipment I need, is brilliant both around town and on the motorway, does 45-50mpg on average and goes like a bat out of hell when I need it to. Oh, and it has a silly stereo too. I bought it specifically to use as a daily as I'd decided I wanted a smallish diesel with a bit of grunt (did briefly contemplate a 106 diesel but they are GR3 for overtaking and with the number of tractors and combines on the roads of north Norfolk at the moment it wouldn't have been ideal) and this was the first sensibly priced car that caught my eye. I didn't realise at the time quite how much grunt it would have, but this has been one of those rare occasions where an eBay purchase has turned out to be better than expected.

My P38 had suffered a cracked head and I'd been shafted by a garage so was driving a Polo on a long term loan.

It need to be returned sooner than expected so was left back on its owner's drive (freshly washed, waxed and with half a tank of fuel) on wednesday night and I went car shopping on saturday morning.

I looked at a Focus, rotten underneath, called about a 156 (the owner called me back three days later), a few others and was looking at a mk4 Astra in a front garden car dealers when my mate pointed out the Audi. It wasn't priced and only had a months Mot.

I took it out, like the way it went, the potential for economy and figured that as a galvanised car it wouldn't be rotten.

I got a year's Mot as part of the deal.

That was just over two years ago and 30 thousand miles ago.

I eventually got Audi UK to fix (almost all of) the rot and got rid of the stupid khan wheels (replaced with stupid Audi wheels).

It goes well and gets over 50mpg but the rear calipers, wiper motors and a few other things are made of cheese, it leaks water through the bulkhead, its got a few designed in rustraps and the heater is intermittent at best.

I see your sunroof seal has done the same as mine and started lifting, damn thing is noisey as hell at speed. 45-50mpg is good to say yours is modded, mines only doing just over 50 and it's standard.

My daily driver is this:

legacy.jpg

1999 Subaru Legacy 2.0 GL AWD Sedan with 160.000 miles on the clock.

Why did I choose it:

* I don´t like FWD (front wheel drive)

* I am driving mostly on the Autobahn, so I needed a car that´s relatively fast, comfortable and frugal

* AWD gives me a good feeling in winter, I don´t have to worry about snowchains

* it´s japanese

'cos providing you don't run em out of oil they are THE hardiest cars about. This one was a steal at £1350..... and takes any amount of abuse.

Hey, Tayne, do you think your Audi could be 'doing a Passat'?

The heaters on them require the brushes ( http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/VW-Passat-VW- ... 1c1befd406 ) which is a glovebox out job, but not too bad, and could the bulkhead leak be the pollen filter seal or the bungs under the battery?*

Are those aftermarket headlights and front indicators by the way? Looks really nice that car.

That's asuming it's similar to the B5/5.5 Passat of course, if not I apologise.

Evenin' all

I've been lurking for nearly a year now and its about time I made myself known. This thread is a great place to start because this is my daily car (the one on the right)

2cits-2.jpg

Until recently I was using a Volvo 940 estate which was getting a bit long in the tooth. I saw this gem and thought (in true Autoshite style) "what could possibly go wrong?"

No road tax to pay and lpg conversion, nice long load platform and ever so comfy seats.

The saloon we have had for years, I'll tell you more about that another time.

The DS was a proper classic even when it was brand new...Perhaps your cars a tad too good for shite status, but they're TEH SEKSH.

Holy crap, DSDriver, that's a heck of an opening post! Lots of love for old Citroens on here so you're going to be right at home. Set a spell, take yer shoes off...

Welcome to the shite DSdriver!, both those DS's looks fantastic but full kudos to you for using the Safari as a daily, I'm very jealous, that looks mega cool!

Looks closer.

Then you'll see the bum print on the bonnet (not mine), the rusty passenger door, all the peeling lacquer...

The dark wheels do look good with the red but that shot is rather well lit.

Its a 20 yard car.

The lights are factory originals (with brighter bulbs).
