Scotland to Surrey?

At LONG last i may of found a spare V6 Safrane, its a car i,ve known about for a while, its the right spec(V6 RXE L reg)

But its not roadworthy,no MOT/TAX,but does move,its in Scotland(not 100% sure where)i,am in Surrey(Jun 11 M25)

How do i get it back in a sensible price bracket, guessing trailer is the only way,any other ideas??

Nope - Whitevanman has one..., He's in the borders off the A7

WHERE in Scotland is quite important....Scotland is a big place and most of the roads are single lane.

Find out where - there might be a shitter narby with a Frame - problem then is how do you get the A frame back north?

Your best bet will be to either hire a trailer or use Shiply to get a quote. To give you some idea - I had a quote of £270 to deliver a Mk1 Shogn from Essex to Edinburgh (360 miles) on Shiply...but if the car is in Inverness then that will be nearer £500 -£600 to Surrey

For something like that I would say shiply only, a DIY effort will cost a freakin fortune and take several days!!!

Waiting for a reply from my friend ref where in Scotland he is?

Who is Shiply? a fellow shiter from Scotland...

how about an Autoshite charity relay event to raise money for the down-at-heel hydroelastic pump manufacturing staff

I'd go with Shiply courier company or at least a recovery company located near to where the car is. I got my Sterling delivered to Birmingham on a flatbed from a Telford based company as that was where my car was stored.

Assuming it's not a complete shed, what's stopping you from booking an MoT somewhere darn saf and just going for a very long drive? Alright, you'll probably get stopped by ANPR warriors a couple of times enroute, but that should be much less hassle than bothering with A-frames and much cheaper than Shitly.

Just paid close to £180.00 for the Sera to be shiplied to Leeds from nr Aberdeen. So you'd be looking at least double that +

Yup, there's no friggin' way I'm gonna volunteer the Heep'n'Trailer combo for this one...

Shame its not a driver as i need to get down to sunny surbiton in a few weeks time to collect a gen3 celica

This ALWAYS gets suggested and no-one EVER does it, technically legal or not you just know its going to result in impounding and crushing of your new treasure.

Try RR's Pony express for an ''empty load''' trip. You might get lucky -if you're not in a rush..

I don't believe it. If you've got insurance, a test booked and you've only just bought the car, I can't see them being so brave/stupid as to risk getting themselves in trouble for punishing you for something that's legal! The problem with shiters is that quite often we buy cars that are decrepit and could get you fined for dodgy tyres, cracked windscreens or whatever.

Go on then Luxo, prove it's fine. Deliver this car from Scotland to Surrey for 25v6turbo without a hitch, popping in to MOT it on the way.

I'd never willingly drive over such a distance, irrespectively of the legality of the situation. Took me 3 days to recover from driving from Sheffield to London and back!

Posted

Having said that, I've done it without issue between Leicester and Coventry, but that was in 2005 and I am not sure about the popularity of ANPR back then.

I once drove to the local post office in a car with slightly different coloured wing. It doesn't mean I'd drive from Scotland to Surrey in an untaxed, untested car though.

Depend the location of said Renner. If it's in Galashiels rather than Inverness than that's 190 extra shitley miles away so might be the difference between it being worth while or not.

Sorry Tayne but that joke is worn out beyond repair, forensic examination has failed to locate any remaining traces of comedy within it, its like the body of a teenage girl thats been laid in a stream for 3 weeks on an episode of Wallander.

Some very good and brave suggestions chaps,i,am still waiting for an exact location then i can get some better ideas.

I think the car actually runs and drive but has not MOT/tax,i will find out more details and update.Surbition is 20 mins from me aswell..

It could be well worth putting on the road again. Have two sub-perfect Safrane V6s rather than one perfect one!

I drove a Citroen C5 V6 from Birmingham to the ferry at Stranraer under the MOT loop hole. Passed numerous ANPR cars on the M6 and nothing. Was crapping myself all the same though!!

Just heard from my friend

Not in a great rush to sell...GOOD

only 60k perfect leather ...GOOD

very cheap...GOOOD

ITS IN FIFE,450 MILES FROM ME......FUCK!!!!!!!!!

Now what.

How about a relay event? We have got shiters the length and breadth of the country, and for those that are having shite withdrawal symptoms, it would be a welcome break away from trawling the 'bay.

Each shiter picks an MOT station about 50 miles away, and books an MOT. Next shiter picks car up from MOT station, bodges one of the items on the VT30, polishes a panel then does the same again. By the time it gets to Surrey, it'll have a years ticket and be mint. Bung each shiter a tenner and a pint for his trouble. Can we find a fecked Solara in Surrey to do the return trip? Bollocks to your banger rally's... We are providing a service, having a laff and recycling and saving the planet- might even get a lottery grant! :D

What is it with Safranes and Fife, there's thoosands o the *****in things.

Posted

If worst comes to worst and you don't end up getting the thing, would you be so kind as to refer me to it's owner? I'd gladly pop over on the ferry and give it a good home. I'm probably actually closer to it in Belfast! And then once I'm bored of it I'll bring it over to you when I inevitably buy a 3.5 V6 Vel Satis on the 'bay in England :D

Is it a black 2 litre in Dunfermline? If it is, I know it well. Or a burgundy one in Glenrothes with bonnet pins...

OK,

I'm going into hospital tomorrow for an operation and will be out of action for 2-3 weeks.

Do you know what condition it is in? When was it last on the road?...Where in Fife? 250 miles sounds like Dunfermline rather than the East Neuk/ St Andrews end. If it can be got roadworthy and an MOT bunged on it I am happy to drive it down to Surrey for you in about 3-4 weeks time. I'll spit the petrol with you as I have to go down anyway - I will then stay down for a week to do some work and drive the Jap Coop back.....

a solution for you. Unfortunately, I do not have a tow car anymore. Unless Whitevan has still got the old Shogun I sold him 2 years ago - it's a V6 so a trailer could be hired I suppose.

Thing is it moght be a long way but it could be a LOT worse - If it is Dunfermline then it is accessible and populated (Fife is arguably the "Surrey" of Edinburgh. This means that there may well be a lot of half loads going up and down.

Stick an ad on Shiply, mention that time isn't iportant but price is and see what happens you could strike it lucky - ie if a chap is heading north with a load ianyway, its a return journey for him and often they do these at cost to cover their fuel...
