trigger
On Sunday here in Ipswich we hosted the 37th NASC Street Rod Nationals at the showground, I love this show, not only is it 10 minutes from Trig towers but it also hosts some of the nicest cars about. I often see them driving around the town on the Saturday before the show, On the Saturday is the Felixstowe cruise and then a burn out competition at the truck stop on the way back (I forgot about this again ) and the Sunday has the show 'n shine display at the showground. The full set of photos is here, Sit back and enjoy! http://www.flickr.com/photos/triggersca ... 096126223/ Nissan 200SX power Mk1 Cortina! 1963 Ford Cortina Mk1 with Nissan 200SX Turbo Engine by Trigger's Retro Road Tests!, on Flickr 1963 Ford Cortina Mk1 with Nissan 200SX Turbo Engine by Trigger's Retro Road Tests!, on Flickr The owner has even custom fitted the dash into it as well. 1963 Ford Cortina Mk1 with Nissan 200SX Turbo Engine 2011 by Trigger's Retro Road Tests!, on Flickr 1975 Jogo Ford Based Hot Rod 3.5 V8 by Trigger's Retro Road Tests!, on Flickr 1977 Ford Granada 3.0 V6 Ghia Mk1 by Trigger's Retro Road Tests!, on Flickr Dodge Truck by Trigger's Retro Road Tests!, on Flickr 1965 Buick Riviera by Trigger's Retro Road Tests!, on Flickr Rat look Beetle, Although it's not my cup of tea it did seen better executed then most. 1966 Volkswagen Beetle Rat Look by Trigger's Retro Road Tests!, on Flickr 1966 Volkswagen Beetle Rat Look by Trigger's Retro Road Tests!, on Flickr 1954 Ford Country Squire Station Wagon by Trigger's Retro Road Tests!, on Flickr 1959 Ford Zodiac MkII 5.0 V8 by Trigger's Retro Road Tests!, on Flickr 1988 Ford Sierra 1.6 GL by Trigger's Retro Road Tests!, on Flickr 1952 Chevrolet 3100 Pick Up by Trigger's Retro Road Tests!, on Flickr 1964 Humber Hawk Street Rod by Trigger's Retro Road Tests!, on Flickr 1969 Vauxhall Cresta PC 3.3 Deluxe by Trigger's Retro Road Tests!, on Flickr 1969 Vauxhall Cresta PC 3.3 Deluxe by Trigger's Retro Road Tests!, on Flickr 1959 Austin A35 by Trigger's Retro Road Tests!, on Flickr Stunning Hot Rod of some kind! by Trigger's Retro Road Tests!, on Flickr 1966 Ford Corsair 1.7 V4 Deluxe Rat Rod by Trigger's Retro Road Tests!, on Flickr 1966 Ford Corsair 1.7 V4 Deluxe Rat Rod by Trigger's Retro Road Tests!, on Flickr 1930 Ford Model A Rat Rod 5.0 V8 by Trigger's Retro Road Tests!, on Flickr 1965 Hillman Super Minx Rod by Trigger's Retro Road Tests!, on Flickr 1962 Hillman Super Minx by Trigger's Retro Road Tests!, on Flickr

barrett
Hmm. Equal parts arousing and disgusting. Like midget porn, or something. What's parked next to the (rather lovely, bar the wheels) Riley? Looks like it might be a '65-'66 Galaxie 500. If it was, do you have a pic of that?

RoadworkUK
Wow, GR47.999 stuff, Trig. I had no idea this was going on, and right on my doorstep. I wondered where this guy was heading on the A12. Galaxie and caravan isn't your typical camping fare. Of all the above, I think I'll take the P reg VX 4/90, thanks.

trigger
I like that Riley RM, is that wrong? No, Not at all!, Whilst i was taking the photos of it i also spotted Matt_T of this parish getting excited with a camera over it!, According to the DVLA it hasn't been taxed since 1978!, I'm guess it's a recent barn find that's had the Ovlov lump bolted in, Works for me. Mr_Bo11ox
No car says 'I prefer to rent household appliances rather than buy them - it saves a packet and allows me to spend my income on things that really* matter' louder than a jizzed-up PT cruiser with mis-spaced numberplate digits and a load of shitty chrome lettering lobbed all over it. These people should be sectioned at the very least. Some great cars though - I like the Riley and the brown Vauxhall FE 2300. I wondered briefly if it was the one previously owned by clueless old-car-ruiner 'Hilminx' off R-R - he had an identical one, which underwent some of his special brand of badly planned/executed 'mods'. Pete-M
I love that Riley. I wonder how much Volvo it has other than the engine. If it's got 7/900 suspension (preferably the IRS briefly fitted to the 760) then that just has to be a good thing. I like the wheels, too.
Spottedlaurel
Seeing as it's so local, I'm going to have get myself and the Laurel down to this one year. As others have said, there looks to be a mix of good, dubious and plain bad, but it's unbeatable for sheer variety.

The Hillman Minx I've photoed is his, what a crock, As i was looking at it some chap came up to me and asked what the tank on the front was, i Said i didn't know, he just turned round and said "well it looks shit anyway" before walking off. 55bloke
That looks like an awesome gathering!! Great pics as always - some of the cars are simply stunning, others rather less so!! I'm still totally baffled by the whole rat-look thing. Why would you deliberately let rust destroy a vehicle you enjoy? Most of us dread the sight of rust on our pride and joy! I'm a bit puzzled by the Triumph based hot rod - what part is Triumph? Likewise the '36 Austin 7 based one - not much Austin 7 in evidence! Quite like the RM, but worry about the wisdom of putting a more powerful engine in a car with so much structural wood, especially if it's a barn find! trigger
Yeah someone commented on my Flickr set about the Austin 7 based one, I was going by what cartell.ie came up with, mybe just the V5 is from the Austin 7?, and Matt_T who i was with at the time also said the ash frame on the Riley, I'm not sure I'd trust it's integrity though.
CreepingJesus
You do all realise the Riley's famous ash frame, is sat on a very sturdy steel ladder chassis? That's partly why it was a hefty old bus even for its' day! I've got a little soft spot for the Riley RM's, as my dad's first halfway decent car was an RMA, bought for very little. Sadly, it ended its' life under a Pickfords truck: his then girlfriend ended up on the road, via the windscreen and the bonnet. She still married him, and is my mum to this day... He always had a wistful faraway look in his eyes when he recalled the car!Given that they're so notoriously difficult to restore, it's no surprise that this one's less than concours. Actually, a Volvo 740 Turbo powertrain sounds like a good idea; it's not the most powerful engine ever, but there's the thick end of a ton and three-quarters to shift there. Probly fun enough, but I'd be thinking of a T5 in there, and a more resto-rod style. The thing with the DVLA (or whoever it was) records showing the 32B as an Austin 7: back in the early days of rodding, it was quite possible to start with something like a 7, and modify it to the point where there was no 7 left. But under the DVLA rules at the time, it was get away with-able. Couldn't do it now, but some older rods are on V5's seemingly unrelated to the car as it stands. It's also why most of the Jago Fad-T's come up with odd results too: being essentially kit cars, they kept the identity of the donor car (provided it wasn't written off or made from 10 different cars) much like Westfields, Marlins etc. 'Ford Cortina' on one line, and a notification of a change of engine capacity to '3528cc' is quite common! worldofceri
Nice shots as ever Trigger. I saw a few of those heading home on Sunday evening on the A12. That MkI Transit recovery truck stands out for me. Looks like a brand new ally body on it. Pikey but nice. And that PT Cruiser is disgusting. There must be fifty quid's worth of those crap stick-on 'chrome' letters on the back of it.
