Interested in this. Bit of rust- but 'they all do that Sir'. However this glass is testing me.

Anyone got any sensible, low cost ideas -before i commit?

There does seem to be a few of those about in this country, would have thought that there would be a rotten one somewhere that could donate it's 'screen?

1. Autoglass. You never know, they carry all sorts for cars that were never imported here.

2. Ebay US

3. Ebay / Autoglass equivalient in Germany? I think they're called Carglass. With all the American forces over there, they must have had provision to fix this stuff and the postage is likely to be cheaper than from the states.

4. Somewhere like Automotive Glass International in Birmingham, or Uroglass in Bromsgrove

I thikn Lexan screens are illegal are they not? But even if they werent, and you made one that was good enough to get past an MOT tester, would the screen not be ruined after about a month by the windscreen wipers grinding dirt into it each time you put the wipers on??

Correct me if i'm wrong like as it would be handy to know you can make a windscreen if you're really desperate.

I totally agree.............but isn't that the rear screen we're looking at?

i thought that too at first but defo front, you can just see ythe steering wheel.

Thanks all

It is indeed the rear -the front is fine.

I thin kI've also found one, in Germany...

However, I've already caught him out in 2 fibs and now a whopper- so I've lost confidence in the vendor -and am out.

Shame cos the welding didnt look bad & I kinda fancied it.

Is that some wierd optical illusion? You can see the dash and steering wheel.........through the rear screen?

Posted

Which would also make it RHD, unless the photo has been flipped over.

Posted

I thought that too, first I thought it was the rear and then I looked again and thought no I can see the steering wheel!! :?

I thought it was the front - but wouldn't it have wipers?

Hidden Montego style I believe.

Weird, defo looks like the front to me too. You can see the sculpting of the dash, and also the pop up sunroof is nearer that window than the other. IIRC the rear screen of the pacer wasn't the full width of the car, more of a hatch, with wrap around side windows. I'm accessing on my phone so can't put up a pic.

Im interested now Nige'.

Did the seller say that was the rear screen? What other porkypies have they been dishing out?

Posted

That absolutely has to be the front. Apart from the fact that you can see the wheel, and the demist vents, and that pacers have a slopey 3 window rear AND it's a laminated screen, the damage looks like it was done by bouncing a pedestrian over it.

DB motors have Pacer breakers, and also list new screenz.

Sorry -my bad. The front has a replacement -the rear doesnt.

Kinda academic now.

What porkies has the seller been telling? I like pacers, bit like a yank Allegro!

Posted

I heard the RHD ones used some kind of bicycle chain contraption to transfer the movement from the steering wheel to the column which remained on the left. For a while there I wondered if this one had a chain running from front to back.

Posted

It looks like a front screen to me too, maybe it's not the same model as the yellow one?

Posted

It's obviously the front screen that's bashed. Probably from the heads that hit it when it went into an armco after it was stolen!

Porkies?

He told it me it was a runner. My colleague -who visited, found it hadnt run in (prob ) years- and wasnt likely to.

He told me the running gear was fine. Gearlinkage is apparently sloppier than a whore's drawers.

He told me ''small rust''. That obviously didnt include the missing floor.

I'd spent a fair bit of time/aggro on this -and a mate had travelled 50 miles for me.

ARSE!!

I'm not busting my nuts on this , but the pricing was sensible (seemingly), the cash is avaialble & -because I've knackered my back -autos are becoming increasingly favoured.

If I could have got it across to Dover, cheaply -i could have got it home for near nowt.

Dont remember the RR one -how long ago?

Was that the one that Jonny Smith was selling? (the RR one). Was a fair while ago now I think. Username is Impala64 IIRC.
