Another local eBay find. One picture, shit description and what seemed (to me) a pretty good start price with no reserve. My daughter twigged where it was from (just down the road from the bread knife works) the picture on the listing so a quick drive-by was taken yesterday. EPIC FAIL, no sign of the car. Anyhow mailed the seller, got his number and discovered it was actually kept half a mile from my house...

Dropped down this evening, talked numbers and although I didn't get it for the start price it wasn't much more on top. Lack of bids or interest probably forced the seller's hands to be honest. Got it home, had a play round and got the wipers working (dodgy relay) but we reckon the rear window motors are fubared.

It's pretty minging inside but a (very) quick blast with the old professional interior cleaner is starting to see the seats look shit loads better. Radio needs coding and there's the odd mark and what not but all-in-all it doesn't look or drive to shabbily at all. It (probably) won't be a keeper but I'll blezz round in it for a shortwhile as it seems quite a nice place to be, even if it is only a MONGdeo in a party frock.

Wow. Looks good for the money! These seem to have suddenly got cheap. It's no Mondeo though - t'is a Lincoln platform.

I drove one once, my niece was going to buy it. I advised her not to, so she did anyway... But, I only gave her that advice because the car in question had issues, I can imagine a good one being a very nice daily-driver. Well done Cavette.

Fuggin hell! I've always liked these. That looks VALUE. 8)

Hey if ever a car was 'pub landlord' nowadays its one of these bad boys. I bet theyre mega nice to drive though. GR8 4 COLECTIN PORK SKRATCHINS FROM TEH CASH N CARRY

I was looking at one of these in 2007 for about 3k, that looks well cheap!

I think they actually look really nice, it's a pity JC slagged it off for that grille. :(

ZOMGF.

That R ace our Billy. Well done.

Drove a treat this morning, warmed it up then gave it some welly. It's not desperately quick for the first second or two but then gathers it's loins and starts moving some. It must be a bloody heavy car though so can't complain.

Another bonus was the 18" alloys with a couple of new tyres and the seller is supposedly dropping off the original alloys on Tuesday. I'd have thought the wheels alone weren't too shy of the £700 I lobbed him for the car.

Good call that, Billy.

Nothing Mondeo about it though, tis a Lincoln LS in drag. Same chassis the Scorpio replacement was going to use.

Jag prices are scary lately. I'm going to have to get mine mint if I'm going to keep it. Otherwise it'll end up in Landlordville.

Pretty car. Looking forward to some more nice photography on this one...

About 10 years ago, the 'then-lass-on-the-go' had a yearning for one of these, in white, with gold badges. (She was from LA, Ca.) I thought they'd be out of reach forever and never plummet like XJ40 prices, but look at them now!

It's the X-Types that share so much with Mk3 Mondeos btw.

Nice cars these S-Types. Always had a bit of a yearning for one of these if ever I was to own something newer I currently own. I used to admire a Black S-type-R I used to pass on the way to college a few years ago. An S-type and the Series III Damiler Double-six are the only ones I'd like to own.

Don't worry about the engine, if it goes bang then lob a K11 Micra lump in and sell it on as a Mitsoka Viewt. They're so convincing people struggle to tell the difference anyway.

That's some excellent work there. Every time I drive one of these I suddenly remember how great they are.

Mind you, I'd love to know what that Scorpio replacement would have been like....

Probably not dissimilar to the S-Type.

After reading other comments maybe I’m not going to be in a minority after all, but I find the S-Type a much prettier car both inside and out than the XF ('Tataguar' as I call most new Jags).

It does surprise me at how cheap these are now. You get a hell of a lot of motor for your money, there. A very nice find.

I've known two people to have had S-Types and both generally spoke well of them. Never got to drive either of them, though. One of those was a 'V' plate and he had it for about six years and used to happily waft back and fourth to Dumfries in it. Light metallic green and beige leather. Lovely...

Getting better by the minute. Previous owner just dropped by with the original alloys and book pack. Alloys in decent nick, tyres all A1 (couple at least are nearly new) and I now have the code for the stereo.

Only fly in the ointment is the service history is shit but there's eveidence in the engine bay of a recent service by the looks of things. I'm going to cruise up to work in it again shortly and fully intend to have The Cult and 'She Sells Sanctuary' blasting full tilt out of the speakers 8)

I think S Types look minging but drive well.

Seems like a good purchase.

Smashing. But would you mind awfully taking those chrome surrounds off the headlights and taillights and pretending they never happened? There's a good chap.

Apart from that, I suspect you're going to enjoy this car pretty hard.

Tip:- These OMG DRIFT quite well.

Brilliant car. Well done, mate!

But the aren't any Mondeo bit in it. Ford and Jag co-developed the platform for the S-Type and the Lincoln LS.

Here's Lincoln's version. It's very different from the S-Type.

Didn't even realise they chrome trims round the lights aren't standard! I can live with the front ones for now but may bin the rears. It's defo not a keeper this car unfortunately, I can't see a mingebag like me living with the fuel consumption. Especially after smoking some Lotus Elise thing off at the lights this morning.

Posted

Agreed on the chrome. With the smoked glass, that's really screaming PUB LANDLORD. Thankfully you have a good de-chavving record!

I've always liked these, and have never really understood where Clarkson's coming from. If there were no headlamps, then he'd have a point about it looking a bit like a fish, but there are, so it doesn't.

Lovely, needs a bit of de-chavving though, never really understood why people like to chav-up Jags/big Rovers etc..

I really need an S-Type in my life right now. My still-off-the-road-cuz-it-wont-start Rover Sterling is really getting on my wick now.
