My Austin 1100

I bought this little fella off Mr The Organist a while back and left it with Les to sort out. Well after the A35 was stolen I asked him to make it a priority and I picked it up with 12 months MOT on Saturday. After driving the 1977 Midget this felt state of the art! I was looking sad though so I buffed it all up, doesn't she brush up nice!

thats just so quaint Torsti..nice one..and as mentioned..it will help u get over the loss of the A35...like a generational gap with improvements

I have never had one of these. How have I lived my life without one? It looks great, I must have one one day!

It is genuinely MUCH nicer to drive than the MG, not that the MG isn't charming!

Tim, how is it possible that you wouldn't have owned one?

How comes you get all these good toys!!!

A lovely little thing, and I will be happy to take up your offer to touch it inappropriately.

nice car hope its got the cool red-stripe speedo in it too.

Those Austins are the best way to have an A series pull you along.

I assume you've done something security measurewise, doesn't bear thinking about that the scum could do you again, video camera DVR type thing? There's a fuel pump in the boot, put a hidden switch on the feed to it somewhere, I've an ex DVLA wheelclamp if you want, just needs a good padlock.

I dunno! I have owned loads of old BMC/BL/rover group rammle over the years, I have even had the odd 1100/1300 lined up but so far they have evaded me!

This.

Always had a soft spot for these and very high on the old 'must own one day' list. Registered round here somewhere too judging by the plate.

Lovely, I had a 1300 which liked a lot too.

Put the Russian on the Foes list and it all disappeared from view...

lovely motor Vek - what's the rot like?

When I was 15 (so about 1990) i got given my first car - my great aunt molly's Austin 1300 Mk3, WVE225L. She had owned it since new and it had about 40k on with a full service history. It had rear subframe rust problems, which I tried to fix, but i had NFI about welding etc and it was a bit much for me. (although with hindsight it was actually in very good nick compared to most of those at that age, original sills, trumpets, bulkhead etc) So, I gave it to my bezzy mate at school as he is/was a bit more savvy than me when it came to fixing grot. He put it back together then stored it in the back of his friends shed. To my total amazement, he still has it 20 years later! Now that i am not afraid of rust and hydrolastic suspension problems i'd love to get it back. Maybe I will eventually.

Where is this rambling, inane old-boy-style nostalgic tale going? I'm simply trying to say that I have a special place in my underwear drawer for these things and would love another, i think i'd like a slightly breathed-on 1100 rather than a 1300 tho cos i reckon it would be smoother and revvier than the 13, and would therefore suit the cane-ability of the chassis better.

I absolutely know where you are! The 1100 is great and with it's performance the chassis is superb, it could do with a little more fire though, incredibly smooth car!

That has come up lovely! I love how these early ones look like they are smiling!

I remember in the mid-80's my friend next door's parents had a red F reg one if these in their garage. It belonged to his late auntie, and it was equally dead.

We used to play in it but, being 6, was scared of the musty smell inside it lol. I remember the black vinyl interior.

I was sad when I saw it getting towed to the scrappy when I was on my way to school one day. :(
