just sold one piece of shite and got another one GIVEN!!!

Ok in my first post i admitted the fact i had a mk3 fiesta frascrappi which has admittedly seen better days!! well some tool bought it off me this morning for £500 (more than what i bought it for and it wasnt actually for sale but i thought sod it i only work in town ill just learn how to walk again!!!)

well i had just sat down and was having a sip of a brew when my grandad called me and told me his new shitroen c5 had arrived and he wasnt willing to trade his old car against it because the mileage was STUPIDLY low and they would just scrap it! bearing in mind i dont know what he drives because we dont talk very often due to family issues but anyways i digress! He told me he would be up to give GIVE!!! me his old car because i would get more use out of the thing!

so im stood outside my front door and waiting for him and all of a sudden i hear the unmistakable rattle of a PSA turbo diesel!!!!! he came round the corner in what can only be described as perfect autoshite!!! a 1992 K reg BX TXD Turbo and it is immaculate and its only got 45,000 miles on the clock!! i have to say i nearly had an orgasam there and then! i have always loved them the cooky looks the wierd suspension and the hiss and tick as it settles! and he handed it over with no fuss whatsoever! so im now the proud owner of this black beastie!!!!!!! the only 2 non standard things about it are the peugeot 306 alloys and the JVC CD player!

i have already taken it for a spin out along the dual carridgeway near me and SWEET JESUS! the turbo boost is awesome and it just flies! and at ahem miles an hour in 5th it still has more under foot! and according to granddad it will do about 60mpg!!! obviously not at full chat but still! so looks like i just bagged myself an awesome bit of kit for precisely NOWT!! yay :lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol:

well im in an awesome mood! im gunna drop it off with my mechanic on monday for him to check it over see if anything needs doing to it! and the mileage is genuine because its got service history from the day my GG picked it up! i think it cud do with some new tyres on the front because when i floored it in 2nd they both lit up!

Lucky bugger.

I love the feeling of getting to know a 'new' car, it'll be quite a departure from a Mk3 Fiesta.

Posted

erm just a bit when i chuckled when i floored it, my voice echoed! ITS LIKE A DRIVING ROUND IN A HOUSE!! LOL and the fact it will hit 60mph in less than 6 weeks! lol but the only issue i have is i need a cushion under my arse to see over the dashboard lol

Very lucky.

The turbo diesel is the most desirable of the BX range, so this one is worth looking after as they are definitely going up in value.

check the earths - the multiplex cables can cause issues if badly earthed.

Do you want to sell it?

Posted

That'll be a dodgy earth, hopefully a five minute job. take all the rear bulbs out, clean 'em up, the sockets in the clusters too, then find the connectors to the clusters, and clean them too. Emery board will do the trick, or fine grade sandpaper. If there's an external earthing lead, screwed to the body, take it off, clean the contact patch, refit.

If none of that works, I've really no idea.

That, my friend, is the type of scenario I dream about!

Health to drive mate!

I'm up in Keighley regularly - my kids live in Haworth. So I'll be looking out for ye!

I'll be the messy lookin' guy in the sexy '87 Mazda 323 (blue)...

Getting the BX is a right result. Will keep my eye out for it.

What a great freebie! I wish that someone would give me a well-sorted BX!

1992 K reg BX TXD Turbo

You lucky lucky lucky bastard.

Right, get yourself over to BXClub.co.uk or BXProject.co.uk (depending on how much you swear) and tell tehm there.

Rot spots - inner wings (front and rear), boot floor, rear door shuts.

Heater hose (braided) at the rear of the engine rot and are unobtainable (even when they were they were ££££££££££££££'s)

Octopuses rot and leak, but can be replaced or even better moved and changed to copper pipe (but that involves a certain amount of faff).

mate - I am seriously envious - IMHO the TZD and TXD Turbos are THE BX's to have - the greatest oil burning car EVA MAID

I love my Gti 8v but the TZD I had was a more civilised ride and still quick (the Gtis have different, harder spheres which wilst giving better handling, also transmit potholes into your spine

When I first started dating the missus I was living in Edinburgh and she in London, I used to go down every 2nd weekend - I couldn't afford the plane or the train so would leave Embra at 1800 on a friday night and get to fulham around midnight - and drive back on a Sunday afternoon - 80mph the whole way and you could drive to London and half way back on 1 tankful

you are a jammy bastard!!!!

sooooo jealous - for gawdsake - look after it -

What Scooters said. My first drive of a TZD was a forty quid eBay job with a bit of tax and test. Drove it back from London and thought it was quite slow until I looked at the speedo and I was doing about 110.

Supremely comfortable, go through the gears really nicely and ace on fuel, there's nothing not to like.

right update time and alas! i have some rather disheartening news! i dropped it in with my mechanic on monday as stated! went to work and i got a call at lunchtime with a rather worried sounding voice saying " nick u better come and have a look at this quick sharp" thinking it wud be something like the exhaust or maybe even a brake pipe but no it wasnt, the chassis is now practially non exsistant due to it rotting to nothing at all!!! under the suggestion of my mechanic the car is currently sat round the back of his unit till i figure out what the fuck to do with it (sorry for the horrific french usage! but im really pissed off) it seemed like a minter but turns out its less stable than sienna miller on vodka!

i think spares or repairs maybe the answer but im hoping my dear mate mark can get her back on the road in some way shape or form even if its just hi jacking the engine for someone else to use but ill keep you all updated as to what happens

well after what i found hmmmm i beg to differ sodding thing!

Sounds rather like your 'mechanic' is attempting to pull your pants down.

I assume that he has marked up all the affected areas with a yellow chalk crayon and that you've taken pictures of all the offending bits...

Posted

Mmm, I'm with Pog on this one. Methinks the mechanic could be thinking that by telling you its a death trap, he could do you a favour by taking it off your hands for peanuts. Next thing you know, he's "managed to get it roadworthy" and is using it himself.

Have you thought about wanging it in for an MOT somewhere else? I think if you are being told OMG YR KA IZ DETH TRAP you should get a second opinion.....

Posted

Chassis rot? Impressive as it doesn't have one. A posts, bulkhead and sills are definitely rot spots though. Have you actually seen these problem areas?

Posted

If you take a motor to a (certain type of) mechanic and ask him to check it over and see if there's any work needs doing, he hears you asking "bend me over the bonnet and give me a good doing". They can smell new blood a mile off.

I'm from your neck of the woods, know it well. And in the market for a BX. I'm working on a plan to retrieve DW's estate from Wales, and my regular MOT man (near Keighley) would be quite "sympathetic". He'll fail it if it's a wrong un, but he gains nothing from a fail, so he does me right. PM me for details.

@ Dolly, yours is a TD, is it not? Or is a TGD something very different?
