People's meddling I dislike

Because that's the name of the company that does the mods.

The one I hated was Mk2 tailgates on Mk1 Fiestas.

Posted

You probably know this but that is because Ford stopped producing the Mk1 tailgate when the Mk2 came out.......any rear end accident damage on your mk1 ended up with you having a mk2 tailgate as a repair.

Big aftermarket alloys with long thin elegant spokes that reveal the original drum brake looking even smaller because its been painted bright red/green/blue/etc

I like the bits of sticky back plastic on the head and tail lights. Up to £1700 for the full tat kit.

I've always hated aftermarket alloys, it's a shame when people take off standard stuff (and then bin them) and put 500 quid Wolfrace crap on. It just doesn't look right.

Wasn't aware of Range Over. They charge 1,500 for this apparently?

You're telling me a company's selling that sh*te for actual money. I just thought it was some halfwit glueing random stuff onto their range rover.

Surely that dashboard's not finished?

See also the clifford alarm

What used to amuse me about Clifford was the freely available wiring diagrams on their .com No dealer login required, nothing. You may as well just fit a Moss.

The power of brand and marketing - it’s amazing how many people fall for that.

That wanky Mondeo reminds me - silver wiper blades. I wouldn't mind if they were only fitted to twatish Saxos, but you see them on all sorts (even bog standard Freelanders) and they never look anything other than shit.

Can you imagine the level of taste involved to look at that P38 dash and think "hmmm, I like that, I think I'll have one in mine."

Showed those pics to the wife - she was suitably unimpressed. She did say about the (nearly) standard one "that looks much nicer but I think {points to the "colour-coded vents centre Consul"} that bit and that bit is horrible." Then I opened the 'website' of rangeover and she said "is this more stick-on bling shit?"

MK5 Transits with MK3 bonnets, ending up with two Ford badges one above the other.

It really annoys me when a car has tyres that have dimensions that are too small for that model, or the owher has just taken wheels from any car with wheels that will stay on.

I see a lot of Vectras and Mondeos that have tyres meant for an Astra/Escort. It makes the car look very strange and must knock the speedo out so they always thing they are speeding.

I also detest Halfords wanky aftermarket alloys. I had a set on my first Corsa and the tyres were even the wrong size. All my 3 current cars have had a change in wheel, but they come from a model further up the range. The only aftermarket wheels I think I would ever fit would be from Speedline, but they are out of my price range!

I also think fitting 17's to a small car with standard suspension gives it the instant 4x4 look.

Lexus style rear lights. Makes any owner look like a moron who has probs skimped on absolutely every form of routine car maintenance just to fit this utterly shit mod.

Theres a 1995-on S-class Merc that lives near my work with a numberplate startining in 'S600', fitted with AMG wheels. Looks ok, but when I DVLA'd it, it just had to be an S280

Bits of interior trim painted in bright colours, like the grab handles.

Those 'Sport' badges aren't a new idea though. When I was wee, my neighbour's son had a Chevette with 'limited edition' scroll stuck on the boot.

I hate anything and everything aftermarket that is meant for vehicles that has the word "universal" on the packaging. Chrome Arches on Merc's and Beemers. metal valve caps, led washer jets, blacked out windows, M3 mirrors, anything Ripspeed.. "chrome" car mats, CD players with buttons instead of a knob for volume, any button that beeps when you press it,neons, angel eyes, aftermarket cone filters, steering wheel covers, metal gearknobs, any tyre less than a 65 profile, any wheel bigger than 15"

No1. locking wheel nuts

Gash, the lot of it.

I've got 16" wheels that are standard fitment, are they still gash?

And, I don't think I've ever seen 'locking wheel nuts' that actually lock - surely they should be called 'security keyed wheel nuts/studs'?

16 inch wheels are Ok on Landrovers and vans and stuff, otherwise there's no need for them. I used to think the 14"'s and 195/60/14's on my SRi were huge!

You do get a few types of locking wheel nuts that need a key to unlock them, not seen them for a few years though. Some 4x4's have them on the spare still though I think.

I agree with all of this.

My old man had a '75 Maxi HL with 165 X 13's

My first car was a '78 Chevette HLS with 175/70X13's

Talk about used to aspire to 185/60X14's - now I have an old '87 Scirocco with these

& an '87 944 with absolutely idiotic 225/50X16's - as standard.

I don't understand how anything bigger can really be justified.

If it's just because of weight, then the car is possibly a bit too heavy.

Posted

Not if your brakes are inboard...

My experience of cars with big wheels is usually one of pain as you wonder why on earth they've done it. MINIs on big wheels are totally horrific to drive.

Posted

I noticed yesterday a brand new KA with 195 tyres on 16" wheels. It's a TINY car (well inside anyway). Why do they need to be so huge (and expensive to replace)?

By contrast my old R5, which is probably about the same size externally has 145s on 13" wheels. Even my S40 T4 only has 205s!

I wonder if a Porsche 911 RS could be mistaken for a MK5 Escort RS2000.

You need big wheels if you have big brakes though

I understand this & have posted elsewhere about oversized alloys revealing tiny but brightly painted drums.

I have a beetle with 11.5 inch ventilated discs front & rear that you can only see if you look for them,

can I have an extra shite point?

Take this Stag for instance.

Am I the only one who gets so upset by the fact that the indicator/sidelight unit is upside down that I want to scream? It may seem trivial, but it really is WRONG.

Leyland Nationals give me similar annoyances. There is one in particular which is preserved which has them the wrong way up...

Really rather irritating. It's also got a grille which isn't black, and that also bugs the tits off me...

Have we had anything by these two cretins yet?

I went to school on that National and it didn't have a black grille when it was in service, it was also Red and Cream at one stage.
