catsinthewelder Posted January 14, 2011 Posted January 14, 2011 Well done, its not exactly easy these days
Guest Leonard Hatred Posted January 14, 2011 Posted January 14, 2011 What's different about the test these days?I passed mine in 2004 and found it pretty easy... mind you, there's next to no traffic here. Congratulations by the way, what's your best insurance quote so far?
Minimad5 Posted January 14, 2011 Posted January 14, 2011 Thanks again everyone What's your best insurance quote so far? Fiesta = £1800 a year. Highest Quote - £3500 /yrRebel = £4500 a year Highest Quote - pretty sure it was over ten grand /yr309 = £2500 /yr Think i might need to get another job ... or two
cms206 Posted January 14, 2011 Posted January 14, 2011 This may or may not work, but when I was 18 I was offered a Volvo 740 Turbo estate on an F-reg. Knocked it back thinking I'd never get insured... ... £626. I still kick myself. It was bloody lovely.
Minimad5 Posted January 14, 2011 Posted January 14, 2011 Not tried a Classic policy yet Tayne, but i will once i've finished doing what i need to on it
Guest Leonard Hatred Posted January 14, 2011 Posted January 14, 2011 When I tried getting Triumph Dolomite 1300 quotes on a classic policy at 18 none of the companies were interested, I had to be over 25.A couple of companies, Lancaster and Peter Best accept 21+ now.
Minimad5 Posted January 14, 2011 Posted January 14, 2011 Angry Dicky of this fine establishment is the same age as me, and i believe he has a classic policy. So it is possible Leonard
Guest Leonard Hatred Posted January 14, 2011 Posted January 14, 2011 Aye they might be a bit more open-minded now. Good luck!
barrett Posted January 14, 2011 Posted January 14, 2011 Is it just me and brammy without one now? Bugger! RACE YA!* *I'm not even thinking about it until at least late summer
Guest Leonard Hatred Posted January 14, 2011 Posted January 14, 2011 Is it just me and brammy without one now? Bugger! RACE YA!* *I'm not even thinking about it until at least late summer Not to worry, I might be banned after February.
Guest Leonard Hatred Posted January 14, 2011 Posted January 14, 2011 About 40MPH in 30 zones twice (A940 and A938), then driving without insurance...
greengartside Posted January 14, 2011 Posted January 14, 2011 Nice one MM! Welcome to freedom and independence!
Conrad D. Conelrad Posted January 14, 2011 Posted January 14, 2011 Nice one MM! Welcome to Ford Fiesta Freedom and Peugeot 106 Independence! Edited for insurance quote purposes
Angrydicky Posted January 14, 2011 Posted January 14, 2011 Congratulations Mark! Angry Dicky of this fine establishment is the same age as me, and i believe he has a classic policy. So it is possible Leonard I certainly have, and it certainly is. Footman James FTW. When I passed my test at 17 (2008) I got insured on my A35 for £450. I'm currently paying £390/yr for the Cambridge, and I got a quote on the Maestro for just over a grand. So it is definitely possible They don't like anything made after 1990 though.
Lord Sterling Posted January 14, 2011 Posted January 14, 2011 I passed my test in 2004 aswell just before they brought in the 'Hazard Perception' thingy. For me it was just a matter of passing the 35-questioned theory test and driving test, which I passed first time. My examiner was very good, made me feel a bit more relaxed as the test is pretty stressful, I was sweating buckets. I was so happy to hear "Congratulations, you've passed the driving test etc.." when I was expecting to fail. It didnt sink in for a while until I got into the Micra and was half way to Halesowen when I realised that I was driving, on my own and all legal. Spent a few years dossing about and driving about aimlessly with mates, bought my first legal car. Sadly, driving is now just getting silly, expensive and stressful what with all the road rage/being cut up because I drive a small car etc... I told Mutha_Sterling to take the Micra with her despite it only to be used twice a week by her (She works away) so I've kind of rediscovered walking/the bus. Angry D - I didnt realise you were only 20!
Angrydicky Posted January 14, 2011 Posted January 14, 2011 Angry D - I didnt realise you were only 20! 19 - 20 next month. I didn't realise I come across as such a grumpy old man!
eddyramrod Posted January 14, 2011 Posted January 14, 2011 You're in the right place to be one... Well done MM5, when are you driving across Yurrup to see me?
Minimad5 Posted January 14, 2011 Posted January 14, 2011 Well done MM5, when are you driving across Yurrup to see me? I've got to get Barret a twix and a can of Dr Pepper first Don't forget to use your driving skills at the next Meet people:viewtopic.php?f=1&t=10244
eddyramrod Posted January 14, 2011 Posted January 14, 2011 That's all right then, gives me time to get my house move completed (picking up the keys on Monday).
Minimad5 Posted January 15, 2011 Posted January 15, 2011 That's all right then, gives me time to get my house move completed (picking up the keys on Monday). Good luck with that Hope it has plenty of space for all your "shite"
brammy777 Posted January 15, 2011 Posted January 15, 2011 Seriously well done, I bet it feels like such a weight off your shoulders now.And three minors! That is some good going! Should be proud of yourself.I have had 30 lessons now, so my test will be booked sometime soon, the sheer cost of it these days is utterly ridiculous though.I remember looking at quotes for myself a few years back, the lowest was something like £512 on a Metro, but that was on my Mums name and I lied about it being garaged....I always get the feeling I have left it pretty late to do the test, but saying that, my older brother is 30 and hasn't even attempted to learn.
cms206 Posted January 15, 2011 Posted January 15, 2011 I had no luck with timing; ended up doing my car test not long after they introduced the theory and hazard perception but thankfully passed first time; failed my PSV the first time I sat it and ended up resitting and passing the week before the DSA phased out the completely and utterly pointless gear changing excercise. I think I was carless for four months after passing my test, from memory...
Cavcraft Posted January 15, 2011 Posted January 15, 2011 No insurance=no sympathy, to me it's not much different to drink driving. You get caught, tough shit. We'll chat about insurance tomorrow Mark, I could do with some tips for junior.
Guest Leonard Hatred Posted January 15, 2011 Posted January 15, 2011 I drove without insurance unknowingly. How is it the same as drink driving? That's a bit hysterical - It's not like driving without insurance makes you a dangerous driver.
Richard Posted January 15, 2011 Posted January 15, 2011 I must admit I feel safer driving when I know that other drivers can smash my car and maim me and my family without having to worry about the cost.
