That's AI. The bus on the left looks half way between an RM and an RT. The two buses in front of that just look completely random. Then the bus just in shot on the right looks like an RT but is too slab sided, more like an RM. RTs have a considerable tumblehome on the lower body side.

So then I started looking at the cars and lots of them just don't look quite right. The A55 bottom left has a kink in the fin at the base of the C pillar more akin to a Westminster.

I mean it's good, certainly a lot better than some of the attempts from even a couple of years ago but it's still not right.

It's in b&w on previous pages.

It's funny what a different set of wheels can do for a car. A Landcrab really does look a bit dowdy on its normal wheels with hubcaps but bung some Rostyle type wheels on & the car looks much better & sportier.

The Minder Mk2 Capri was SLE 71R. I think it might have been on the Mk1 pre-facelift GT too but can't remember.

SLE 11R last taxed August 87, which sounds about right for a '77 Mk4. My 77 Mk4 2.0S lasted till 1989.

I think it's just my imagination but to me it looks like the guy on the right is walking backwards.

L plates on a 250 (or is it a 350 ?) must date this image as pre 1983.

They were a great bike……I had one new in 1981. Rode it like a nutter (looking back) and stuck it into the side of a Vauxhall Astra 10 months later. I saw the impact coming and braced……result was I sailed over the car and landed in a heap up the road…..was going a bit! Extremely lucky to come away with just some nasty gravel rash

Thought the 'Tina's plate looked familiar. Close to Terry's Capri. images(10).jpeg.5d23e0dc3fd88ef0eab3810e9a88c695.jpeg

Always wondered what that Escort is in the background. Looks a lot tastier than a Capri.

The escort was due to be Terry's car  ( was ithink a harrier maybe a sport) supplied by ford  ( there was an article at the time in I think street machine magazine) but it was decided at the last moment that as Terry was supposed to be a just released ex con how would he be able to afford the car hence the used Capri.

So it only appears in that scene & in the title sequence every week as a consultation to ford, it was still cheaper than paying for primetime advertising every Monday (9pm) & the Capri & various escort/transit vans did plenty keep the name in the limelight & to boost ford sales.

It worked too as close to half a century later you & others in our age bracket on seeing these iconic series & characters, or when you see actors  John thaw/Dennis Waterman, Paul Michael Glaser, Martin Shaw/Lewis Collins etc instantly think of ford

The MK4 Cortina was probably an ex ford press fleet car that just happened to be there when that photo was taken.

Batches of regs were allocated to ford press fleets/Motorsport cars over the years various are well known Inc

XOO---F,

NHK---M & V

POO & PNO --- R

VHK---S

HPU---T

To name a few

The capris reg appears on a silver RR shadow in an early episode of the professionals

I think it was more than a Harrier or Sport which were just 1.6Ls tarted up a bit.

That one has seriously flared wheel arches like a rally car. Even road going RS2000s didn’t have that.

It's fitted with an Xpack (available on MK2 escorts & MK2/3 Capri) body kit & 7 1/2 in 4 spokes & a rear jackup kit.its another that's disappeared into the mists of time ,think it was another HPU---T  car.

It's the other way around the the 1.6L came about as a cheaper version of the sport after the discontinued 4dr escort sport ( only available for around 12 months, the harrier was a runout model  the covered several bases ( discontinued MK2 Mexico, celebrating the escort rallying success/retirement ).

the x pack was available as "aftermarket" as well as genuine Ford Motorsport so a car like the Minder car could have been any two door in practice.

the harrier and sport versions continued with the x-flow, mexico and RS2000 used pinto's. the RS1800 had the BDA twin cam (BDG maybe?)

I've only ever seen one in real life and it was 1256cc powered, were all two door Cavaliers only fitted with the baby engine ?
