That's a late reg 1800.

It is a late reg, but it's a Wolseley Six.

I dont think I've ever seen a Triumph 1300 as yellow as that. There was a primrose yellow and even a sort of orangey beige on later cars but I didn't think proper yellow came along until the Dolomite. It's a TC too, you can just make out the wing badges.

M&S sign looks a bit off too, though the Tina & bug look ok. Sunburst has just come to mind

Can’t ever remember seeing a CA in that colour either.

I wonder if it's a black and white photo that's been colourised, done to a high standard if it is.  Or simply a colour photo where the colours have got distorted.

I am guessing that is a hand coloured photo. You make a light black and white print and laboriously go over it with a brush and photographic dyes.

The usual giveaway is the limited number of colours used, see how many other things you can spot the same colour as the car. Also the van, the Vauxhall and the motorcyclist haven't been coloured at all and like the road and the lampost are still b/w photo.

It was technique used quite a lot on picture postcards because photographic colours tended to look rather dull  due to the limitations of the cmyk printing process.

That must be a lot of effort. Here's a slightly different version:

I last watched it being done about 1970 at a studio where I was a junior in the Grays Inn Road.

This is a fairly Norwegian view from the past, spring and a Datsun 120Y that lasted 21 years before being scrapped in 1996. The 120Y my grandfather had also lasted about the same good cars.
