The Solara has won the last round, even though it was a close-run thing. Twelve rounds later, the Ital is defeated though, and it's now time for another contender.

Ladies and Gentlemen, all the way from South Korea, I give you the Hyundai Stellar:

I lurve the Stellar...so the Solara is still the shittier of the two for me

Despite voting Solara both times before, this time it's the Stellar - hundreds of taxi drivers can't all be wrong when they could have bought the Cortina's replacement, but bought some far-eastern shite so they could use up the stock of void bushes they'd bought.

Despite the Solara winning the last 2 rounds, I'd like to see how the Stellar would fare against the Ital, as I'd be voting Ital.

Stellar. I think Solara has desirability in some masochist's collection. I can't see any redeeming features of the Stellar - ideal for the Shiter.

Unlike the last round neither of the contenders are Shit, just solid gold Shite. Difficult this. Hmmm...Stellar it is. :)

Cortina MkVI.

Dumpy styling, even less desirable 'brand', outdated even when launched... instant KO.

Are the engines in Stellars pinto-related?

Could you build a 'coz-eh' version and turn up at Old Skool Knuckledraggers meets and piss everyon off? YKT.

IIRC they're fitted with an old Mitsubishi lump, although it shouldn't be difficult to swap them around.

Aye, Mitsubishi engines, Cortina running gear, improved rear axle location etc, maybe a Zetec would be more Old Skool Hyundai/Ford...now I have a major wantage for one again

Old Archie Cymble, legendary taxi driver of this parish lobbed a Sierra Ghia 2.0 EFi twin cam 8 valver in his metallic blue top-spec Stellar about 15 years ago. It went like a fucking rocket, and he mangled the diff. The next diff he put in it was welded. He once took me from Carrickfergus Castle to Belfast City Hall (14 miles) at lunchtime in 12 minutes. A very comfy car too.

Stellar: local taxi firm had a fleet of 'em yonks back and drivers either loved them or hated every minute of driving them.

There's something sort of peversely alluring about them (in a sh1te way) and even though the only one I had any dealings with only ever started when it felt like it (and was sold on to a banger racer) I would have one over the Solara.

I don't get the point in these 'X vs. Y' threads at all, it seems like something that you'd see on a far lesser forum and another excuse for Formula Autos to post loads of photos found on Google image search.

I quite enjoy them, it gets people talking about cars firmly in our radar if nowt else.

We have spoken about this before Pog!

Stella would win if it wasnt for the association with this evil brew:

You don't have to read them mate, it's just a bit of fun!

Yawn. Please internalise.

Anyhoo, back at the interesting part... They're both weapons-grade shite. The deciding factor for me is which I could use every day*. So, this time it's the Stellar.

* And happy memories of an imaginative girl in Brighton who used to own one... 8)

:D Fair enough! At least you're not a lager drinker... Another pint?

Dammit, this one is tough.

I actually don't mind Solaras, and can't abide Korean stuff (other than the Hyundai Coupé with the 2.7 V6 in) but the thought of being able to wangle a twin turbo 2.9 V6 into a Stellar does fill me with glee.

As it is, I'm betting on the standard cars and defending the Solara.

Still Solara, just.

The Solara had a point, the Stellar just shouldnt have existed at all. Interiors were of a mind blowingly low quality. Later models had mitsi felched strut front suspension. Id have one!

It looks like the Stellar is the winner in this round then!, I wonder what car will knock it off it's place?.

I so nearly said that! Here's one, just for your effort...

If we line up the FSO with the Steller then we might as well give up now as nothing will ever knock the FSO from 1st place.

Well I'd have another one, I'd even pay cash money for it (but not very much, obviously).
