Oh hell, what's wrong with us? The ultimate old cop car:

WRONG! The best police car in Mad Max is the spectacularly knackered-looking March Hare. It's the Autoshite of Mad Max police cars.

I specifically love this bit where it goes down a straight road with an absurd amount of smoke coming out of the exhaust and sounding generally unhealthy. It's the best!

That actually is a really good picture to show what happens to the wheel geometry during had cornering :)

Because Yorkshire police cars would have an Essex number...

Nice one Tayne! Ahhhhhhhh Ladas... I want one of those 1500s that chased Timothy Dalton in The Living Daylights. They can catch an Aston Martin, in ice and snow! :D

Emergency Services Day at Crich? :)

As an aside... in 1989 I witnessed a hit-and-run on the East Lancs Road. A few days later I got a phone call, could Greater Manchester Police come and take a statement from me? Well of course, no problem. So I'm waiting at home at the appointed time, expecting a detective in a nice little Fjord Blue Fiesta... oh no, they sent a traffic sergeant in a fully-dressed Range Rover, and he was cruising up and down my street looking for the right house! I understand the driver involved got 9 months in the end.

And Tayne, thank you, cracking still!

This blagger cant wait to get his cuban heels into Fords new saloon and he's jumping for joy as its a base model which he knows will soon be replaced by the Popular and Popular Plus, he got 30 years but never forgot that MKII that arrested him and as soon as he was released from prison he went straight to a internet cafe to do a DVLA check and was gutted to find out its date of liability was 1989.

Maybe it's just because i've been awake for SO LONG, but that made me do an actual no-foolin' laugh out loud. thanks!

No problem, glad you liked it.

Actually it's originally from Hertfordshire:

I'll get my coat before anyone tells me to go to Radnorshire :)

:wink::wink:

AR is indeed Herts according to the book, but I know for a fact a lot of "AR" cars were originally supplied by dealers in Essex. There are still loads of K10 Micras around, most still with their original "APC Southend" numberplates on AR plates, one I remember was the identical pair of scrappage Micras side by side in a local scrapyard, G52 BAR and G53 BAR. A family friend owned a Mitsubishi Colt Celeste from new, that came from a garage in Thorpe Bay, Southend on Sea (TAR***W). So maybe the Herts AR code was shared with Essex DVLA? As a complete reg number anorak I have been wondering about this for a long time :?

I have the answer for you, AR was Hertfordshire up until 1974 after 1974 it was issued for Chelmsford.

Alot of number plate area identifiers were changed in 1974, i'm guessing this was for one of the following reasons or a mixture of both:

The DVLC was created in 1974.

The Local Government Act 1972 came into force in 1974 (this was when some counties lost their name or merged with others).

I think the DVLA one is the answer in this case. I've looked at the local ones and Warwickshire is now part of Birmingham  (although I think that's only for the DVLA  )

By the same token, if anyone else wants to FO......

............. they will now have to go to Gloucester :D

Looking at the Volvo FOR---D, I know where the remains of a Volvo registered FOR2D are...... probably never see the road again, proper ratlook rusty shell. No glass or interior... was removed for a resto, then his Mrs went loopy and he never got it out of the storage in time so it sits in a field rotting.
