Anyone with servicebox access to run a VIN for me to see what it was configured with?

I *might* be able to. Sometimes my setup won't do older stuff, but I will give it a go.

I do feel bad that I largely ignored these when they came out, or even looked on them with disdain. Now, they look great, especially compared to modern mobility blobs!

It does look a lot like a 406 Coupe from the rear (and they were a fantastic looking car).

It looks like a 406/407 that got stung by a bee and crashed through a leather shop.

I mean this in the best possible way, though. I think it's a rather handsome car. Like a very very very very long coupe that somehow ended up with another set of doors.

MOT on Wednesday morning, and then I can actually take it for a proper spin outside of private* road.

It's a wierd crossover of a new body style but parts bin everything else! Getting very familiar vibes of my 2002 406 and 2002 xsara from the interior shots!

Not that thats a bad thing, it's all proven decent stuff tbh. A safer bet than a generation newer when all the interior and electronics were 1st Gen new 😬

Weird crossover between 406 / xsara and 307 inside.

To me at least, it still feels premium, and not parts bin, though. Unlike the big Audis, which I always considered to be cashing in on the badge, with interior components shared with Fabias and Caddys.

The centre console where the gear stick is, and the leather on the door cards, strike me as being lifted straight out of a Merc.

It's such a good spec, probably one of the best color combos you could get them in (there was also a brown leather option). They had quite a few features like an electric bootlid I didn't expect to see on a Peugeot either.

The seat section pattern, while hardly unusual, always felt like directly taken from the E39 comfort seat. It couldn't be closer to that if they tried.

It indeed is. Someone went on a box-ticking spree when it was ordered! I just need to look at the Android head unit wiring, as it's not turning off with the car. RT2 is shutting down based on the CAN/BSI signal, which chinesium unit is not respecting. The Peugeot multiplug doesn't send switched live where it should be sending it, and it has no idea when to turn off. This, in turn, is draining the auxiliary battery. 🤦‍♂️

@MrBig managed to pull out the build spec based on VIN. Thanks again mate!

I'm sure I remember something about a red and yellow wire being reversed on PSA stuff compared to most setups for the radio wiring.  So the switched and permanent live are switched.  Not sure if that applies to things this new though.

Rear screen blind is actually a nice thing to have in summer I found on the one Xantia I had with one.  Never thought I'd use it but it mostly just stayed closed in the summer months.

Strange car the 607.  They were launched about a year before I left Peugeot.  Obviously massive and not particularly attractive, I remember they were certainly high quality and felt very well put together.  Superb seats as has been mentioned, but the ride was a bit underwhelming compared to the 406 & 605, I think Peugeot's chassis supremo had left before it was introduced.  Autocar magazine amongst others  was quite critical of its handling too, I know Peugeot made some last minute changes to the suspension.  Sales were terrible, made even the 605 seem popular by comparison.  All of which of course make them perfect Autoshite candidates.  Who knows could become the Talbot Tagora of 2040.

In hindsight, I honestly don’t think they did all that poorly in design department. It’s certainly no 405 or 406, but it’s very of its era design. The competition hardly did better, with the notable exception of A8 D3.
Peugeot spectacularly shot itself in the foot by giving the press pre production car, especially right after A class moose test fiasco. All they wanted was another story like that. I really can’t believe no one internal drove the car and went “Hangon, this is a terrible idea!” By the time they fixed it, there was no coming back and fixing the reputation.

I seem to remember Top Gear absolutely ragging it around a track and complaining it didn't handle well.  It was Jason Barlow I think.

I cannot explain how happy it makes me to see a Peugeot 607.

I've been obsessed with these since my grandparents used to have one twice a year on loan from the local dealer in Aldershot as part of a competition win where they could pick any car from the dealer franchise twice a year for trips...always took the 607.

That interior looks super comfy, shame the exterior is just so blahhhhhhhhhh.  Very non descript styling.

Pet peeve rant alert

Is car that’s closer in size to a glacier than to VW Golf really supposed to be measured by its handling around a track? Is track time in a car class that will never see a track other than to bring you as a spectator important? Are you really going to do a Scandinavian flick in a 5m long landbarge? It’s supposed to be wafty and reassuring, not fastest round the track.

If this was a lower platform, it wouldn’t fit, ass is sticking out of the platform. Chunky boi!

It’s also pissing screenwash somewhere, which I realized through the means of 5L puddle on the garage floor. I’ll check what’s going on one of these days.

Oh, très...euh...Bourgeois... I propose it be herewith known as; TBM - The Baguette Mover.

In all seriousness, j'aime bien les Peugeot and was pretty peeved when my Peugeot 407 decided to implode on itself after I got it to a point of almost perfection.

Franchement, you must feel comme un chef driving ce 607. Quand je conduisais ma Peugeot 407, because it was a manual and diesel, I sort of drove it everywhere like I was late for something. Maintenant, in a big lazy Jag, I like more sedate driving, the kind where you can grow a beard before you get to your destination.

Et n'oublie pas this very important aspect of owning a French car; "Du pain, du vin, du Boursin"
