If I had the money - and I know a few would disagree with this choice...

But I really like these astras. The company I worked for before had these in 1.9 diesel sri flavour. Went like a cork out of an airgun - handling that gave you real confidence. 8)8)

if you ever fancy one,pm me.

Ok - I will call you in ten years when I have saved up

After seeing one in the metal today and hearing the thunderous roar of it's 6.0 litre V8 a Vauxhall/Holden VXR8 would do for me.The owner said production ceased last year though...bugger not new enough then

Soon-to-be-replaced Legacy. I really like them, sepecially with the flat-6 petrol motor and proper manual box. New one is a step backwards, IMO.

That's a yank spec with orange sidelights BTW.

I have a 1400 corsa - so you will be wrong  .

The other car I really liked was----

Saab 95 2.2 Diesel estate. Just a nice place to be. Managers car at the same workplace before all the 93's swamped the place.

Sadly, VW don't do the Passat W8 estate any more; so the R36 will have to suffice  . Not as street-sleepery as the W8, but I'm sure I could manage to be happy  .

If money were no object, I'd join the Maser Quattroporte ranks. There's one or two about here, and it's one of the few moderns to have real presence. Even in Asda's car park...

Realistically, I'd have the 500 Abarth; maybe the Twingo Gordini. (Frankly, if someone were to put Abarth, Gordini, Alpine, etc., badges on an actual shopping trolley, I go for it. Sad...)

Perhaps a bit predictable and mostly fantasy stuff, but here goes: -

Aston V8 Vantage - always thought this was the prettiest and best proportioned Aston of the current models.

Bristol Blenheim and Fighter - still truly British and completely mental.

Citroen C6 - to experience true French waftiness.

Ferrari 458 - I'm not sure I could actually own a Ferrari because everyone would think I'm a complete twat, but one of these and an empty racetrack would surely be tremendous fun. Or possibly fatal.

Fiat 500

Honda CRZ - a bit of an oddball, but I quite like them.

Nissan GTR - Banzai!

Jaguar XKR

Lotus Evora

Mazda MX5

Mercedes SLS

Porsche 911 - I've liked them ever since I was a kid. And I'd like to know what all the fuss is about.

Skoda Superb

I think that's enough.

I rather like the current Rolls-Royces too, but nowadays their image is just a bit too bling and the Phantom Drophead really only looks right in somewhere like the south of France or California.

Wouldnt mind any of the following:

1)- Seat Leon with mega dizzler engine - quick and economical with added ghastly dealer service. Auto Emotion? The only REAL emotion is me shouting at the uninterested service manager that I shouldnt have to take my car for a 100mph blast every week in order to clean the particle filters

2)- Alfa 147 but a few years old - Depreciazone Extrema! GR8 for sounding horn continuously while waving arms about shouting "Hey! Bastardo!" in traffic jams. Or whilst waiting for the RAC. Or wondering how I am ever going to sell it on......

3)- Mercedes C class in Gunmetal grey for that up himself Sales Manager experience - yes I think I am a superior human on account of my wheels even though I could get fired at any time and have to go back to the wifes Fiesta for my jobclub meetings

4)- Volvo S80 - big fat leathery Nordic waftfest, a nice place to sit and contemplate flat pack furniture and suicide while looking at endless Pine forests

5)- Renault Twingo in Gordini colours. Pretend its a Renault 8 remastered. Blezz about pretending Amedee Gordini has personally tuned your car even though it was made by a robot and some geezer call Laurent who secretly hates building cars and wishes he could be sitting in a Parisienne cafe chain smoking and reading Sartre. Or insert your own onion/bike/gauloise/mistress/excellent food and lifestyle based stereotype here.

6)- Honda Civic type R - Yes, you too can marvel at Japanese technology whilst regretting not buying the previous generation model which was quicker and more practical and arguably better looking

7)- Citroen C5 turbo diesel. Looks a nice place to be and I like the styling.

There you go, 2 French, a Spaniard, an Italian, a Swede, a German, and a Japanese. Sounds like the beginning of a poor joke.

ps - I will probably change my mind about these several times over the rest of the day.........

Not so much for looks, just for the fun of it....

I might take you up on that next year. I'd love a VXR, even better a Nurburgring one but couldn't stretch to the sort of money they're doing. What sort of money are the Astra VXRs doing these days please? A Vectra version might be better I suppose because they seem incredibly cheap for what was a twenty five odd grand car when new.

Anyone else think those Saab estates look a bit XM-ish?

I like how about 80% of these are well-respected sports cars, are you lot Autoshite by circumstance or something?

Brilliance BS6

Buick Lucerne

Chevrolet Lacetti (4-door)

Chevrolet Cruze

Chevrolet Epica

Dodge Charger

Ford Crown Victoria (fleet-only!)

GAZ 31105

Honda Legend

Hyundai Sonata

Hyundai Grandeur

Kia Magentis

Lincoln Town Car

You'll notice a fairly consistent theme. I'm sure there's a load more US-market stuff I'd like if I investigated further, they're never afraid to make a nice big 4-door.

When I was selling Vauxhalls just over a year ago I had a black VXR on 19" alloys and nav for 6 months. Loved it, one of my most favourite cars ever. I then had a Nurburgring for about 3 months, it was awesome, handled better (imo) thanks to on the wider 18". The sound of the VXR Nurb exhaust was incredible, but it used to backfire - a lot. I remember pulling into a petrol station forecourt and it going off. I think everyone thought I was doing a drive-by... 8)

I now get given a 1.4 8v Citroen C3 - how the mightly have fallen

I see the Fiat 500 and Maserati Quattroporte are popular.

M-o-d-e-r-n??? Eh?

Oh go on then:

Fiat 500. I know the square root of jack shit about these but they make it in a metallic version of 1970-72 Triumph Slenna Brown, a damned fine reason to buy a car I'd have thought.

Or a Smart ForTwo. Always liked these, even after I'd driven one. Are they still churning them out? I'd be seen in one of those. Not a great deal of reluctance involved.

Toyota Aygo. Not that much larger than the awful-to-drive and dangerously slow IQ (tried one as I was thinking about having a new mobility-funded vehicle to supplement the Dolomite, but when on road test, the rear ¾ visibility was so abysmal, I almost stuffed the hateful little piece of crap into a bus and it didn't have the grunt to get itself out of the way). Where was I? Yes, Aygo, much more like a car than that 'orrid IQ and better yet; there's a really fanciable female working in the local(ish) Toyota showroom selling the cars. Dead fit she is, surely another rock-solid factor on which to base a buying decision?

Fiat Panda

Fiat 500 (OK its a chick's car, but I still like them nonetheless)

Citroen C6 - just stunning, exactly what modern Citroens should look like

Rolls Royce Phantom

Alfa Romeo Brera - just looks 'right' to me

Bentley Continental Coupe

Thats about it really

Sienna Brown, just for you. And you can keep it! This was mine in 1981. I might possibly be persuadable into another Toledo (eventually) but never ever in that colour. I did find one over here the other week...

I agree with Mr H on the 500 and Brera.

The Fiat 500 is a great little affordable new car, if a bit girly.

Alfa Breras look fantastic, if I had a choice of new car, this would be it.
