Sorry yeah - the part number of what came off is 96658430XT. What concerned me was is the board itself could/would support the cruise function but right now I'm happy it will.

Not really no, the new bit is a ribbon cable with 4 tracks on it. The current stalk are wired and there are 3 of them. Would be a lot of fucking around trying to work out which track went where. But I'll keep it anyway in case there is a time in the future I end up with a PSA product where it just so happens this fits it. Or put it on here in 10 years time for a fiver.

Peugeot have been annoying me outside of this car, so the fact it's all one unit doesn't surprise me. To be honest I don't think the unit should be taken apart, but it can be.

And yeah - they're a pricey item amazingly!

Sadly by the time you get into this era pretty much everything is set up similarly, a bunch of black boxes things plug into hanging off the end of CANBUS networks.  Switches actually controlling anything is so 20th century.  Last mass market car which had actual switches hooked up to the things they were actually working (or relays) I really know sold in any real numbers was the Pug 107/Aygo/C1.

A replacement absolutely doesn't need to come from a car with cruise - but it WILL need to be set up using the dealer software to enable it if that's the case.  It's not a case of just plugging in the control and it will just work.

Annoying, but that's the world of moderns sadly.

Really sorry to hear this. You alright though? Did you get seen to properly?

I'll be ok, managed to avoid surgery so fingers crossed I'll be out of the woods soon.

Hmm. So the cruise control is sort of configured on the COM2000 and not the ECU/BSI?

Thats annoying.

I'm going back to the previous generation - but enabling cruise needed to be set in at least three separate locations (and I then discovered that it wouldn't work with the version of the instrument panel I had).

I'm quite lucky though in that I've a friend ten minutes away who's a long time PSA owner and therefore has the necessary diagnostic kit and knows how to drive it.

Good well I hope you get the better of it!

Well if it comes to that I might just liberate the wiper stalk from the new one and throw it in the old unit if it doesn’t work.

I know these breakers are in the Netherlands. But they know there stuff and I have had parts sent to me in Spain with no issues. They speak English. Give them a go. Ask  about export/customs they must know how it works

Postage is expensive but everything is well wrapped.

Thanks. Will keep them in mind!

I've done a cruise retrofit with the same stalks on a similar age dispatch and it does need turning on in lexia/Peugeot planet.

I think the key is here, the car already has cruise doesn't it?    That being the case you might* be ok?

Yeah that’s the thing. I’d be surprised if the COM2000 unit dictated if the car had cruise control or not.

BSI and ECM, I think.

Right, can confirm that the cruise control plugged in to it fine.

Can confirm it fits.

Can confirm it started, lights worked, wipers work(!), washers work(!), no warning lights, cruise control and limiter are selectable but I’ve not driven it so can’t confirm they work.

Fitted in the dark in 15 minutes.

Also can confirm a steering wheel from a Peugeot 207 fits perfectly.

Much nicer than the original.

Original on left btw.

Going to swap out the ignition barrel for the original tomorrow at work as I can avail of a new screw for it there and tidy it all up tomorrow lunchtime.

Great success! Finally.

Thank fuck for that. I thought it was going to be the death of you. Happy Berlingo-ing

@St.Jude - with this level of luck I’d go and spent £20 on scratch cards…..

Knowing my luck I’d end up owing Camelot £100,000 from the card!

Edited for accuracy.

Seriously though, good effort. Well done for perseverance.

Is it about as good as it's going to be now?If so, good on you for sticking with it.

I don’t particularly want to answer that to be honest. Take it day by day really.

It got me to work this morning without a drama, which was nice.

Also on @rusty_vw_man’s advice, I stopped by a shop this morning and I bought some Strepsils and £20 of scratch cards. Genuinely. Not scratched them yet but check back for live updates on that!

Based on your current automotive luck I’m expecting an update that goes:

So I had a fist full of scratch cards, and started scraping the silver off, and some of it dropped down into the steering wheel and jammed the clock spring. In a rage I screwed it up and threw it at the dash, breaking off the hazard switch, and dropping the 2p I was using down the handbrake mechanism wedging it on. After I released that I drove off, but hit a bollard as when I went to brake the balled up scratch cards stopped the pedal going down. Once I’d calmed down I scratched the next one, won £20 so went to fill up with diesel to celebrate but it was water contaminated, so now it won’t run. Whilst I waited for the breakdown man I did the last card using my key to scrape it, but the end fell off the key. When the breakdown man turned up he tried witching it on but used the lower control arm as a winch point as the garage hadn’t put the screw in towing eye back in the boot, and pulled it off. I left it on the forecourt and got a parking ticket, and when I tried to pull it off, the entire windscreen detached…..

I mean, you joke but that could well happen!

So…

First coin was doing its best to tear the fucking card!

End result: I won £10. Across all of them.

Or, I lost £10. Across all of them.

Strepsils were also equally shit.

Spent half hour this morning swapping out the ignition barrel for the old one - so far that behaves. I’m hoping to do a bit of a longish drive in it tomorrow so if it behaves then I can send the new one back.

Also swapped the gaiter over as it was shit.

IMG_1238.jpeg.a694d499ea6de4ffb66fd9d87a57edc0.jpeg

New one is in place, and while it looks better, feels shit.

Makes it look nicer inside anyway.

Hmm.

To give the wife a break/allow her to get some sleep I tend to take our boys out and about for a drive. This has exclusively been in her Kia because this thing has either not been here or broken. But given the positivity the recent developments have provided I thought it’d be ideal to take them in the Peugeot to allow me to give it a proper run. Something not done since I drove it back.

I gave it a look under the bonnet as I’ve not checked the oil since it’s been done. Tbh I’ve not gone far enough to use any but it’s good to keep the habit. The oil isn’t full on the engine. Granted, I haven’t checked it since it was done so maybe the guy didn’t top it up all the way.

I spied this though under the turbo.

IMG_1240.jpeg.72368b0f9e5193c5869f06416fdb4e34.jpeg

That was there last time if you recall. But everything here is rather new. I wiped it clean with an idea to keeping an eye on it. And to top up the oil. Just so I know whether it wasn’t filled properly or it’s using it.

Van started, ran fine. Great. Took a fucking age to get my youngest in the seat as he’s not been in it since I bought it. A faff, and he woke up, but went back to sleep as I pulled off the drive.

Trundle along to the roundabout my house, which is about 300 yards, it starts to rain. I go to clear the water…

Nothing.

I flip the stalk up and down to get something…

Nothing.

So I turn right around and park up, throw the kids in the wife’s Kia, and now I’m sat in a car park of Costa having a bit of a picnic while I work out how much to put this fucking thing on Gumtree and to articulate the sales pitch as “Spares/Repairs because the wipers only work when it’s dry. Possibly BSI”.

IMG_1242.jpeg.6b0a405ae478ed42c9868de8fe71f9b0.jpeg

Shall take photos when I’m home and throw it on tonight.

Like I said the fuse board in the rice can’t have been the golden bullet to get it working. Especially as I’m using a “new” COM2000 unit and it’s already had the wiper linkage changed. So it must be a bad BSI or grounding.

I’m enough to just throw it to cartakeback for £180 and have done with it.

It’s on Gumtree now as Spares/Repairs with the two photos I took of it the day I got it. That’s how much I can be fucked with the nonsense now.

Not even joking, I’ve got home since putting it on Gumtree and I’ve gone to try the wipers again and they’ve decided to work.

Rod Stewart sang 'Some Guys Have All The Luck'. For some entirely undeserved reason the universe has decided you're to have all the bad luck.

Hope you're able to get rid quick and your fortunes improve.

Prefer the Robert Palmer version myself:

I am in work tomorrow, and I think I’m home Tuesday/Wednesday. Plan is to actually pull a finger out, get the 107 new tyres then book it for a MOT on Thursday around the corner from where I work (same place as I got the work done with this POS). But it requires a good deal of cleaning because, well, it’s a bit grim inside.
