Sorry folks family stuff took me to Somerset this weekend and I'll be too late to call in on my way home. I still have the banner.

The day dawned far nicer than expected, and the sun brought with it optimism of a warm and sunny day out at a castle!

The Pontiac needed a jump start (standard) but cruised the distance there with ease and comfort. We struggled to locate one another, but in the end we chose our own spot.

Now we also had a fair few interlopers, but when it’s a Pontiac Grand Am you don’t mind.

Traditional ring entry…

Fun fact despite being an hour from home the Green Merc next to me lives up the road from me in the same village.

One of us even got Les the Mic to talk to us… @mat777

Two of my highlight cars which turns out are both Renaults!

A grand day out… reckon there were around 700 cars out of the advertised thousand. But good weather, even better company and some pretty nice cars made it a grand day out

Not so many of us this year but enough to be chatting so much I struggled to get round the show.

Great to meet everyone and catch up. Clutch on the Rover finally threw the towel in a few miles from home but it was limped back successfully.

Must be the deal of the century…

So you're saying it was a grand?

😁

I still should have put the C6 in the ring with a sticker on it saying "this cost £16.51 and does 40mpg"

And left the wipers going to lure in the judge to their hypnotic chaos.

Precussive maintenance was applied to the wipers while I was there, and remarkably they have been behaving themselves since, with both sortof working.  I'm fairly sure the LH one is goosed tho.

Thanks all for a thoroughly enjoyable day out, was good to meet new faces and catch up with a few old ones!

The commentary partridge-isms were a constant stream of amusement... I think I got away very lightly as he even announced my car correctly 😅

How much was that STS by the way? I didn't quite catch the figure..... (All joking aside, it WAS an epic buy given the condition and history)

There was some quite interesting chod scattered around, who else spotted the "Stealth" Metro, the mint Cavalier GSI, and the completely unrestored veteran belt-drive Triumph motorbike?

I've yet to go through all my pics, but here's the mighty Dustbuster making friends with one of our display interlopers. I couldn't work out if the guy was pleased or annoyed to end up with us... Or whether his outfit was intentionally "period" 🤣

He’s a bit of a pic dump of the photos I took, not many really. The weather was superb! Events like this make me think about moving the P4 on and getting another “bucket list” motor, a Triumph 2000 Mk1, Mk1 Cavalier, Marina or something like that.

Well that was an interesting weekend!

Saturday, my journey down was so wet I thought the Lake District had hitched a ride when I wasn't looking!  Absolutely dire doesn't come near it.  So I jumped off the motorway at the M58 and took a tour of Wigan, St Helens and Warrington on my way to Chester to see my sister.  I was only three hours late there...

OK, we had a nice easy afternoon for a couple of hours, before I decided I'd better get to my hotel in Crewe.  Getting there was no problem, but the way that Premier Inn is arranged, Reception is hidden, incorporated into the Beefeater.  It's a bit of a walk from the Disabled parking too, and the surface isn't good.  I must remember to give them feedback about that.  I had a lovely dinner and retired to my Accessible room to enjoy the delights of the internet... er, yeah.  The wifi left a lot to be desired; I couldn't get on AS at all!  Fortunately I remembered Billy @Cavcraft is a friend on FB so I asked him to post my apologies.  Thanks Billy :)

And then... 0005hrs the power went off.  Complete blackout, no warning, nothing.  Credit to the staff, they were exemplary throughout, but that was a very disturbed night!  Sunday morning all I could get for breakfast was cornflakes, not even coffee as there was still no power.  So I went to the show rather less fed than I had planned.

One of the marshals told me he thought I was the first AutoShambles car on site, so I found a clear space and started a line.

Just in case the next arriving members didn't recognise Desmond!  In the event, the next arriving member was actually Mike: @Frontier Fred on here, and previous (and next) owner of the Omega.  He brought down a highly appropriate Rover...

It's even diesel.  Ewww.  But, it's in lovely condition and was cheap, so who's going to argue?  He did it there and back in the day.  And then more Shiters began to arrive.

Several of us entered the arena for our various classes; Mike and I made sure our cars stayed together even in there.  I don't think any of us got a prize.  Never mind... have some random loveliness from around the field.

I had a look at the trade stalls too, and bought some tools for my model work.  It was nice to meet some Shiters I hadn't previously met, and renew some acquaintances too.

So, back to Crewe, to find the power situation hadn't been fixed.  I retired for a Grandad-nap.  The power came back later, but the team still weren't able to get the kitchen up and running.  I was left with no choice but to drive into town and find somewhere to dine.  Which I did, but I would have much preferred to stroll in from my room and stroll back.  Ah well, at least we had elastic trickery for lighting purposes.

Monday morning the kitchen was up and running again so I enjoyed a proper breakfast, as pre-booked, and headed for home.  I've put in a refund claim of course, because I didn't get two of the four meals I booked and paid for.

You found somewhere to eat in Crewe town centre? I had long ago formed the impression that it was solely comprised of betting shops, vape emporiums and funeral providers 🤣

100_2773.JPG.14f7c36be72685ed6150daa968d1c97c.JPGAs mentioned above, I picked up some modelling tools on one of the stalls...  Cutting discs are always good to have in, and the micro burrs will have work to do soon.
