Rescue II - Maxi, MOT/Tax/Clutch/Clean - Wheel bearing Gone!

Just had this Austin Maxi 1500 de-garaged after 6 years, saw it this morning after it had been dropped of at BL Transverse, needs a clutch, bit of welding then on the road!

Nicely original, 80k and family owned, had it dragged from the South Coast sight unseen and looking through the service history it turns out it was a local car to me in its early days!

gorgeous init! Anyone know the colour, I've been told it's Bracken?

We just need Pog to get his on the road now......

Didn't they use these colours as 'Safety Colours' because of high visibility. That's what they called them.

Lovely 8)

good save that, you gonna get it sprayed or are you leaving it 'as-is' ...

Sandglow I think.

Doesn't look too bad at all under the grime and appears quite solid. Another top save there and +1 on the AS promo vehicle idea.

*Edit: is it an orange colour? My dad had one back in the day (OFO 9M) that was called Burnt Orange iirc.

not a colour I've seen before to be honest, a bit brighter than Sandglow as far as I can tell, it is staying as it is after a damned good clean!

It was around the corner from you Nigel I think, Rustington?

Nice find/save. Looking at the open back door pic, I forgot just how spacious those things were. I daresay, there's one or two contemporary designers could use examining the packaging there.

Obviously, what it REALLY needs is badly respraying in blue, preferably by a blind retard who'll ensure the paint gets all over the windows, lights and tyres. Then, apply the word MAXI on the bootlid in foot-high vinyl lettering as a finishing flourish.

That is...FANTASTIC :D:D8)

The Maxi actually soldiered on until 1982 in the form of the Maxi 2.

Yeah, I think I'll Matt black it, slam it to the floor, drop a Zetec in it and pop 22's all round.

Or I might just give it a good clean!

Looks like Harvest gold to me too. Looks nice - I too was struck by just how much space there is in one of these. Fabliarse!

Everytime I see a photo of a Maxi side on I always think the picture has been stretched :lol:

Drove it for the first time today and it's great but a wheel bearing went!

So after a rodent eviction, a few bushes, new battery, welding, brakes, MOT, Tax, clutch, clutch master cylinder and an Albanian car wash I drove it, it is super smooth and a real joy...then a wheel bearing started getting VERY noisy, so I took it home and parked it up, here she is today:

It's got a lovely GB sticker too! Be a shame not to use it!

It's not Harvest Gold, thankfully, nor is it Sandglow (almost equally thankfully). It's much more orange than either and can I remember the damn name of the colour?????????

Epic save there Torsten, well done.

Can't beat a brown interior!

Posted

I still reckon burnt orange!

Looking good Mr T.

Is it 'legal' -or were you just taking a risk - you naughty boy?

Posted

Great motor there, so much more "you" than that Audi!

Is it a front wheel bearing thats shot? If so I have a stash of Allegro front hubs that should be a direct swap to get the beast back on the road quickly.

Thats lovely well done.

Hopefully going to check out a Maxi 1500 next weekend.
