No P38 but the trip has been going too smoothly so far so I may have agreed to buy this in another dodgy yard near Heathrow just now, dodgy doesn't describe it:

Bit of an odd request but if anyone has the ability to check whether these vins are reported as stolen or not the help would be much appreciated!

That picture looks like the proceeds of crime auction for an early 90s drug lord.

If you’re passing anywhere near Lancashire on your way back up North, feel free to pick another bargain* up en route 😉😂

It was my birthday a couple of weeks back - can I have the wheels off the Merc?

No.

Because it's not a Merc

It's a...

[Either a] Cadillac Allanté [or probably a Maserati.]

Have you cracked 30 mpg on the Motorway yet?

Looks like ours could be twins!

The plastic chrome always seems to degrade on these especially on the bumper trim, the black paint is really easy to scratch as well but looks great from 5 foot away.

Do you have glovebox pox on the cover and has the "leather" on the armrest split yet.

Yours looks like an early one when the suspension was a little softer, looking forward to seeing what you do with her nd how it compares to some of your other 90s and 2000s Executive cars.

Rare car - a Fleetwood '93-'96 - RWD...5.7 V8. About 90,000 in various trims made by Cadillac.

'End of an era' body on frame car  - replaced by later SUVs including the Cadillac Escalade.

It's a Maserati. Merc, Maserati and Allante look very very similar 😀

I've taken lots of photos of everything in the yard, some of the stuff I'll probably never see anywhere again! Stay tuned!

Also quick stop to pick up some more Olds Aurora parts at my mate's, I really need to get moving though, 3 more hours to go! So far so good!

"Mum, can I have an r129?"

"No! We have an r129 at home!"

And we are back 415 miles and about 8 hours (with a few stops) later. The Legend did great, solid, quiet and quick, just as you'd expect from an executive car. I'll have some dinner now, more tomorrow!

Would anybody be able to get a reg from a VIN here? The reg number on the Cadillac is actually the reg of a silver Fleetwood stretch limo of similar vintage that might have belonged to the same collection at some point (photos available online). So without paperwork or reg number I would have no way of telling whether this normal length Fleetwood was even registered in the UK. I guess an HPI check would reveal this? I just sent the vin through Carvertical and they have hardly info at all for it.

Just to clarify, the VINs above were from 3 different Cadillacs there. Even if only one seems dodgy it would be likely that all of them are.

As you can imagine I didn't have all that much time to answer questions yesterday, let's see if I can get a few out of the way, especially since that yard the Cadillac was in must have an interesting story.

Since the guy who picked the Legend up for me wasn't around the P38 was where he hid the key. I had a quick look inside, actually seemed to be a very high spec one. Would be a perfect candidate for an extreme detailing video, unfortunately too far gone most likely.

Probably yes!

oof

eddy - this is how you do it

not northstar in these?

No, the Fleetwood was the only Cadillac at the time that kept the Chevy small blocks. This one should have the 260hp LT1 (Corvette engine with different heads) which is the engine to have. My slightly smaller DeVille has the Northstar V8. They look similar but are very far apart under the skin. Fleetwood is body on frame RWD, making it "the last traditional Cadillac". That actually makes it collectible to most enthusiasts, hence me being keen on getting it if not reported stolen.

The Caddy is not MoT since 2017.

Tuens out the reg belongs to a similar stretch limo, the vin linked to it is not the one of this car. I need to find out whether it was ever registered here.

To be honest, I have no doubt that slightly illegal activities are involved here. Some of these cars came from the London Motor Museum that shut down because of tax fraud, no idea how these guys then got their hands on them. The Cadillacs came from another collection, apparently as part of a package deal when buying another more desirable bunch of Caddys. The problem is that none have keys, paperwork or reg plates, which very much makes them look like cars acquired and stashed "in a hurry". There were two others that were rare specs and seemingly in pristine condition, same situation there. They've been rotting away in that yard with limited access for a while now.

It's a pre-facelift Biturbo indeed, however unfortunately absolutely rotten (to nobody's surprise). Considering the money they might let it go for there could be a deal to be had, I briefly considered it.

Might not see it there but the panel right behind the top screen has a large rust hole in it.

I think I might have to pick your brains about this one, hopefully to speed things up a little getting this back into shape. Armrest is still in nice shape, the perforated inserts of the front seats are hard and have ripped though so those will need replacing. The glovebox indeed has the pox, seems to be a similar issue to Infiniti FX dashboards or LS460 door cards. If you know where I can find a black replacement, please let me know!

I got up to 27.4mpg btw, 30mpg seems easily achievable on the motorway, it's just that I wanted to get home after a long day so I put the pedal to the floor. Considering these were rated at about 24mpg US on the highway that really doesn't seem bad at all.
