Popular Post Simon_punto Posted November 22 Popular Post Posted November 22 Wait, let me just type that out again- MY Tipo 2.0 i.e Sedicivalvole 🥰 I can’t quite believe it, as I have been obsessed with these since I was about 10 years old. Let’s get the headlines out of the way- 89,500 miles, MOT until April, expensive tax compared to the Punto, fantastic noise- January 1993 so ULEZ complaint up here in Scotland. This was on eBay watchlist for a wee while and I kept getting emails suggesting the seller was accepting offers, so after a few messages were exchanged it was bought. I got it far cheaper than it was originally listed for, and he was happy it was going to someone who is going to look after it. It was picked up from derby 8am yesterday and delivered to me in Dundee at 5:45 last night. Poor driver’s water pump expired on his transit recovery truck so he had to change it in euro car parts car park in the snow. He had a bit of a bad day. So the car- it’s fine. It’s in no way perfect as you would expect from a 32 year old Fiat with 11 owners, and there are quite a few jobs to do, but this is my forever car and I have plenty time to sort everything. I gave it a very quick wash today as it was covered in salt from the journey up. There are a few little marks, and a bit of rust at the bottom of the quarter light windows on the back doors but all Tipo’s do that. It has been painted before and could benefit from a good deep polish which I will do, and have the bumpers a quick going over with owatrol, but will go over them again to bring them up. Good bits- it’s been lowered around 30mm and drives very good, sits lovely too. It also has the standard, very valuable alloys which are in good condition for diamond cut wheels, with brand spanking new kumho’s. Once it’s warm, it drives brilliant, and sounds awesome. It’s surprisingly quick- much faster feeling than my xc40 which is also a 2.0 with 150bhp, but in turbo diesel form. It has also come with genuine Tipo Abarth accessory mats, and a stoplock. The headlight wipers work, they are very random but they do work but are missing try the piping for the fluid, and the electric sunroof works too. Bad bits- it really doesn’t like to idle when cold. It keeps cutting out. The window regulator on the passenger door is broken but the seller kindly provided 2 replacements. The headlining is manky, there is no radio and the wires have been chopped by some chimp, and the custom stainless exhaust is on the wonk so that’ll need straightened out. The red stripes around the bumpers and skirts have shrunk a bit so need replacing at some point too. Also someone has in the past put a bit spoiler onto it (which I don’t think does anything for it and ruins the back profile) and have fitted it by screwing into the window rubber. There are a few electrical issues with things that don’t quite work but will work through fuses and bulbs over the winter. (The rear indicators are very dim I think so bad earth maybe?) The Fiat badge on the front grille has been changed to black so will be going back chrome, and there are a few stickers/ badges dotted around that look shit. The biggest problem by far however is that it’s too old to be listed on fiats system for parts numbers. I used to work for Fiat and asked ex colleagues to have a look at the history and nothing comes up for type 160 tipo’s anymore. Replacement parts will be like hens teeth too, so getting this into the same shape as my Punto is, will be a long, stressful and expensive road. But how many people can say that have bought their dream car (I know it’s just an old tipo but I’m not wired up right obviously) It’ll basically be going back to standard, except the suspension and exhaust, and if I get it anywhere near the condition of the Punto I’ll be a happy man. At least I own one now. Talking of the Punto, that’s in storage now and unfortunately it has to go, so that will be up for sale soon 😞 If anyone wants it, message me. Jazoli Posted November 22 Posted November 22 That’s a proper rare thing, these were very rapid when compared to the shitty escort XR3’s and the like, a friend had one and it used to keep my Astra 16v very honest. Burnside 1
Simon_punto Posted November 22 Author Posted November 22 Yeah I was surprised how quick it is. only driven it for about 30 mins but yeah love it Burnside 1
cort1977 Posted November 22 Posted November 22 Absolutely brilliant, haven't seen even a basic one in decades. Looking forward to seeing you bring it up to scratch.
Ian_Fearn Posted November 22 Posted November 22 Amazing! For parts either Big Mick at Euro car care in Derby or Shop4parts Both are really responsive on emails and have bailed me out for seemingly impossible to find genuine Fiat parts. tooSavvy 1

He probably knows the car as it’s from derby. the guy who I bought it from has a 3dr 16v and has broken many over the years so has some parts available
grogee Posted November 22 Posted November 22 Wow, that's ace. Well jell. I like the progression from total lunacy (Strada Abarth) to anonymity (Stilo whatever). This is nicely in between and still has a bit of Fiat craziness. Good luck with the refresh/resto or whatever. I wonder if it might be worth learning Italian so you can go there on a parts collection mission/nice holiday. I thought my Maestro was hard to get bits for but this is on another level.
Lanciaman Posted November 22 Posted November 22 Fabulous. Just class. Well done. I had one back in 1996. Newest car I've ever bought, it was 10 months old I think. Blue 3 door. N reg. Wisdom at the time was the 5 door better as a little more power. 148 v 142 bhp if memory serves. It actually didn't live up to my hopes, but I'd gone from renault 21 turbo, thema 16v turbo so it never felt that quick. Still glorious tho. 11 out of 10.
Tenmil Socket Posted November 22 Posted November 22 That is very, very nice. Wasn’t even aware that spec existed! What’s the book performance figures? I had a go of a mates 1.0i Uno of about the same age years ago and was very surprised how nippy it was.
IronStar Posted November 22 Posted November 22 Glorious. Amazing. Very cool. So much win. Well jealous! Congratulations!🎉 EDIT: Maybe keep the Punto until you get this fully sorted, or at least you have full confidence in it.

Blue 850 Posted November 22 Posted November 22 I worked in a small Fiat dealership in the early 90s and the owner built a new white 5dr Sedicivalvole into a Group N rallycar, iirc it was too heavy to compete against Astra GSis in the same class, AFAIK the family still own the car grogee, Burnside and andrew e 3

Seriously, nice to see a very rare car here, and even better, even rarer mats. Glad it's going as back to standard as you'd want it. Same with my Vectra, I'm keeping it big standard but keeping a few minor mods that I like, and I'm one of those OEM fan type of guys.

It took me an age to find all of the wee bits for the Punto so at least I don’t have to worry about mats, and more importantly wheels as the standard wheels are like rocking horse shit

Can you afford to keep both? Put Punto in storage? Signed, serial car hoarder that can’t get rid because he loves every single one.

I’ve done 7000 miles in 10 Years in it and it’s got to the point it’s so clean I don’t want to use it 3. no space. Live in a new build and the garage isn’t big 4. missus hates it tooSavvy and mk2_craig 2
Matty Posted November 22 Posted November 22 Oh you bastard. That was always my cream of the crop as a kid. Obvs apart from a Strada Abarth 130 TC. Wonderful.

Is there no other arrangement to be made? Loan? Save up for a bit? 2. Which is bonus reason to keep it. No other like it. 3. Garage in the 5-10 mile radius for rent? Not all of my garaged cars are parked in front of my flat. I didn’t even get a garage with the bloody place as the building has none. 4. Is there a missus on here that don’t hate at least some of out cars? 😂 If I listened to every time Mrs. Star rolled her eyes on a car I own or bought, I’d probably be driving a white goods Kia something or other. Just throwing ideas around, don’t hate me 😄 Matty 1
Matty Posted November 22 Posted November 22 I'd have to agree @Simon_punto. It's not like it's an MGB or something. Literally find another of that Punto. Be a shame to let it go. IronStar and Mrcento 2

Maybe I’m daft but I couldn’t settle with my pride and joy not being at home, instead in a lock up. unfortunately, the time has come For it to go. but, I’ve got my Tipo now so that softens the blow a bit Matty 1

It’s at my parents just now in their garage but that isn’t really ideal as it has a corrugated roof and drips condensation in the winter. It’ll take ages to sell anyway, it’s still insured etc so I can still take it out on odd days. there is no rush to sell it, but if someone wants it they can have it
