Welcome back, man! What a heroic return.

What became of that Mercedes minibus?

Or the Buick Park Avenue?

I remember seeing both of them off from Aberdeen harbour.

Shitefest Bulgaria when...?

Posted

Mrs Seal didn’t have the licence category to be able to drive the Mercedes and doing the drive single handed from Shetland to Bulgaria didn’t appeal so she was sold to a guy down on the mainland and we bought a Transit minibus. The Buick still lives in Shetland with a renowned car collector and she will be undergoing restoration work so I’m told. I had to downsize my fleet when I moved out here full time (also had to get rid of the Focus CC). The last I heard the 205 was still going strong somewhere in Lerwick. I’m currently building an extension on the front of the house, once that’s complete then I’d be happy to host a Bulgarian Shitefest, plenty of room in the garden (providing nobody falls into the underground greenhouse hole 10m x 3m and 2m deep) Neighbours thought we were putting in a swimming pool.

It always good to see an old regular again, welcome back!

Blimey the Granada's a right trouper isn't it.  Almost 10 years since I had it, albeit briefly.

The Granada is doing well, she now has the full electric leather interior from a Scorpio. I’ve also got the rest of the RS bodykit and an uncracked dash top to go in as well as 4 replacement doors and a bonnet which will be fitted prior to her having a full respray. However that’ll be a while away as the 2101 will be landing here later today. Here she is seeing daylight for the first time in almost a decade.95d4afa4b57fb2c166ea86374968003b.jpg

Always fancied a Bulgarian adventure after a friend helped someone move out there and he ended up staying for about 6 months near a place called ruse? Rusee?

Excellent fleet you are building there.

Yeah, Rousse is about 90 mins away from me. One of my lads goes to school there, studying wooden furniture making. It’s a fantastic place to live & visit. Any of you guys are always welcome over here.

Always read it as sealtrain,  ah well consider me corrected.

How far from Sunny Beach are you? I've become something of a regular visitor there in its short holiday period.

Shitefest Bulgaria might need to be for more than a long weekend...

1700 miles might need to be 3 days of driving.  Most I've ever done is just shy of 700 in a day before now, and I'm not sure I'd want to do the same again the next day.

even 600 a day for three days straight seems... quite a bit!

Yes.    But a pint (500ml), is cheap when you arrive.

So according to her registration document she is supposed to be beige (how appropriate). She was hand painted at some point as a nod towards rust prevention. She’s had a knock on the bottom of the passenger front wing, apparently it was immediately after this that she was parked up for the last time. Looking at her paperwork, she is due to celebrate her 50th birthday in 2 days time. She’s been named Babushka. Our tame mechanic friend knows a guy in VT who has a shop that sells nothing but Zhiguli/VAZ/Lada stuff. Will have him on speed dial no doubt. She has never had a gas conversion (the scourge of cheap 2nd hand cars in Bulgaria). First job is replacement tyres so we can move her to a neighbours garage where she will be recommissioned. The previous owner was pleased she was going to a good home and would love to see her back on the road, she is also going to dig out some old photos of the car when they had it which will be a lovely addition to her history file.

Removed the fuel tank and drained it and so I have for sale approx 20 litres of finest Bulgarian varnish. Off into Polski shortly to get the service items and tyres fitted.

Took a trip into VT to visit the Lada spares shop as recommended by our mechanic friend. Lovely place to go and very reminiscent of the old independent at spares shops of the 80s in the UK. The owner found out we are working on a 2101 and was very pleased so have us a 55lv discount on a bill of 330lv. I think it won’t be my first visit there Back home to work on her now

New radiator pipes, fuel lines, inline filter, expansion tank, plugs fitted. Got to replace the section of fuel line from the tank and the breather pipe in the morning then add some fresh fuel and try her first start in over 8 years.

Whilst I appreciate I may be odd, I've loved the look of these for a long time!

So with a sniff or 2 of easy start she fired up, unsurprisingly the fuel pump has given up the ghost so that’s next on the list. More updates to follow. Once she is back on the road then it’s time to get the Granada back on the road after having been laid up for a couple of years since her accident.
Is it possible to post videos on here?

Best way for videos is to upload them to YT then post the link.
