It's May 1992, you have £2.5k to buy a diesel car.....

Diesel Bluebird also probably over £2.5K in 1992, given how popular they were with the minicab fraternity.  And most diesels were grim in those days, apart from the PSA stuff.  Escort 1.6D was no less grim than the Cav, and the Golf wasn't a lot better in non-turbo form.

Baller.

In '92 I fully went all in and bought a Chevette for £70.

Without the budget constraints it would of been a Transit. Would of looked a far less obvious tug driving home from the rave.

CX for maximum failure to proceed potential.

@artdjones and @Asimo I suspect a BX diesel was rather more than £2500 in 1992

You could have bought an early BX19RD according to February 1992 Glass's Guide.

It would have to be the CX for me, and it would be an estate. 505 (estate) a close second and 305 (you guessed it, estate) third place.

I may have imagined this, but I swear I saw a video of Vicki Butler-Henderson driving a diesel Charade that ran on gravy.

505 or CX for me.

It's 1992. My brain is full of Sierra 2.3s or taxis. I'm not buying a diesel unless it's at gunpoint.

In which case I'll have the CX so I at least enjoy the rest of the car.

Back in 1992 the diesel section of the classifieds was something I would generally skip past, well unless there was Unimog to lust after!
