Thought this may be of interest to some, whenever I come across an old newspaper I like to look at the car adverts and the like. Anyway here’s a few from the 1990 November 11th issue of the Sunday Express.

I robbed this from my instagram because I don't know where the hard copy is

Screenshot_20240731_140303_Instagram.jpg.5f9c7d9be21834485f430c27c2d65707.jpg

Featured in a 2002ish copy of Mojo with The White Stripes on the cover. Cementing the idea that Volvos are the perfect car for a slightly washed up rock star.

I love how antiquated it looks at the side of even the Maestro which was pretty obsolete itself in a short space of time.

The 1.5diesel were flying machines, used to work at a VX dealer and loved driving them, faster than most things - even spotted a Gsi kitted one

I had the1.5 TD in a normal Nova and I thought that went really well, I ended up breaking the car and fitting that engine in a LWB Suzuki Samurai

From a copy of Gardener's World magazine, April 1997. Seem to remember borrowing this magazine off my mum because it had a feature about frogs in it. And as a 10 year old, I really liked frogs.

Should probably return it to her at some point, 27 years and two house moves is probably enough time to appreciate the five-page spread about garden amphibians.

Wasn't there a Megane Classic this colour at FOTU recently?

Definitely should take sometime to scan what I have properly but CBA. This is July 1980 IIRC.

Funny you should mention that. There's always a few for sale on Marketplace because in a tropical savanna climate they survived well despite relatively low in-period sales.

Here's another I found already on my drive.

No scanner at hand atm, so pictures will have to do. A few from 1970s German magazines:

The S-Class from Mercedes-Benz. In 1977 it was also impossible to build an even better automobile.

And you know what, that might well be true.

And then there's this advertorial at the end of a booklet for learner drivers:

51380746403_946c41749c_b.jpg

It also prominently features Marinas in most pictures that depict traffic situations. Wouldn't surprise me if that isn't purely coincidental...

I’ve a feeling if someone had shown them what they’d actually be making in 2000, they’d have just given up there and then. 😂

I’ll say he should’ve bought it, but then again, I’m biased. 😄

People think all dealers workshops are staffed/run like this by old guys in brown overalls not the 20 yr old chav that screams around their area at night with their fart cannon equipped A2 etc.

Which translates as the only thing faster than this is the rampant rust.

They were spot on, once you bought a Proton 1.5 you really had stopped caring. 😂

We’ve been decorating a couple of rooms in our 1920s home, including removing plaster from walls and finding screwed up newspaper used to plug holes etc

I’ve lost the pics I took but one advert from the 50s featured the Morris Minor, another paper from 1970 advertised….the Morris Minor!
