Perfect* car show weather.

Mrs_Brownnova and the Mini_novas has wisely decided to stay at home!

Glad to see you've still got the XC90.

I'll hopefully be with you lot for just after 10, as I've got to sort dogs etc out 👍

We’re up towards the back… not as far back as usual…

Posted

We've made it to the "Let's Eat Cafe" where I've met some of you guys before. Quick sausage butty and onwards...

Posted

What's the turn out like so far?

Weather just over the border in Ruabon, Wales is pretty grim and drizzly.

Posted

I can confirm that it is very wet this morning in Cheshire. Hope that everyone has a fun day. I would have loved to join you but I have to be somewhere else this afternoon.

Posted

We're currently in B&M trying to find an umbrella to buy 🤣

Kinda wondering whether to bail out as absolutely chucking it down.

Weather is pretty grim, but a half decent turn out.

Currently seeking shelter in the back of ex Dirty daily L322

Gutted to have missed today was looking forward to seeing folks. Unfortunately the van had other ideas. Leak off pipe has split in the middle under the sheath so can't be shortened.

On the other hand it's not raining here so there is that I suppose.

Some of my crap photos. Car highlight was the RS200. Fair play bringing it out in this weather.

I would have liked to stay longer but the shite weather meant home on the M6/M5/etc was prone to getting stuck from an accident. Also my sixth spidey sense was giving me the impression that Mrs SiC didn't want to stay too much longer either. (Despite my insistence she should have sat down, she seemed quite content standing under an umbrella outside the tent!)

I went in the general car park and this nice looking Saab I reckon should have been in the show

Bridge into the show had some tale tale British car territory marking on show.

Done nearly 20k in it!!

It’s by far the most useful vehicle I’ve ever had!

Literally soaked down to my underwear… Probably the wettest show I have ever been to. However, it wasn’t wet under the gazebo and it was great to catch up with lots of people!

Number of Shiters entering the ring was low. I did take the Saab in..

Brown Princess was top 3 for me:

SVX was awesome!

And Junkman’s DKW was ace!

Best of the rest:

TLDR… despite the weather it was excellent to see folk and catch up! Let’s do it again next year!

I resemble those remarks!

A real shame it was such a wash out, but it was still worth the trip to have a catch up with you lovely lot. And I'm glad we got chance of a quick look around before the heavens really opened.

It was Lin's first Chumley and definitely not her last, she said it would be a proper fun day out if the weather was nice, she's looking forward to next year already. #metoo

That was shite! Just back home. Lovely to see everyone again. Battled many a flood on the way home. Still not entirely dry...

The banner is dry, the gazeybo fabric may take a little longer!  Really good to see everyone.

Well it was ace to see everyone,  there was some decent tat on show and some car show goons to laugh at.

The weather however was a little sub optimal.  We wandered off a bit earlier than normal as I wanted Em to want to return and she definitely does.

Looking forward to the next one already.

Wettest car show I've ever been to, but great to see everyone. Highlight of the show was that Escort RS1700T being driven into the arena (and out again) by a very old, very Black Country bloke who had to rev the tits off it to keep it crawling along at 5mph otherwise he'd have stalled it (he did anyway, twice) or taken off like a scalded cock and buried it into the side of some poor sod's immaculate Jag.

Here's some pictures of my favourite cars in no particular order:

Great seeing everyone! Here’s a few snaps I took, unfortunate I didn’t take many as it was so wet I just ambled around with my brolley and an expensive cuppa.

Oh Crikey! Hope the fire is out and all is well now!

The fire is out … all is well is going to require some parts … luckily a very kind and very persistent women flashed us a enough to piss Talbot off that he pulled over …

spitfire is now in her free garage and we’ve almost made it all the way back to Horsham … with no breaks because the merc seems to have thrown a break servo in sympathy with the spitfire… it’s been a long day

It has indeed been a long day.

Vague details:  whilst slightly pre-occupied with the fact that the brake pedal travel in the merc was getting slightly longer than it had been, I hadn't been quite as vigilant about the fact that the entire ensemble was dragging.  Just not quite as free rolling as it had been the previous 200 miles

We were but 0.4 miles from our destination, when the lady flashing her headlamps behind was very insistent we stop.

On getting out, it was fairly clear there was a serious issue.  NSF brake disc was at about 800⁰c, as it was glowing orange.  Bonnet up, have a look, and there are small flames coming up from the back of the brake disk.  Which would not go out with batting with a cloth.  2l bottle of water, and the flames are out, and the brake disc cooking down.

So has the brake pedal pusher jammed on?  Quick check, and no it's free.  Pedal not being pushed at all.  But the car won't roll.  The NSF is stuck solid.

Well fuck.  The fire is out, but we are now blocking the road.  And the wheel is still seized.  I wonder.  Undo the bleed nipple, and sure enough the wheel immediately un-stics and the car rolls again.

Good.  Put the lockout bolt in the A-frame brake over-run,  and get TF out of the way.  We do the last 0.4 mile to destination, and stop... ish.  The brakes on the Merc are still causing concern as the pedal travel is getting even longer.

Now is no time to worry about any of this now.. un-hitch the Spitfire, shove it in the garage, and drive the remaining distance home in the merc... without using the brakes once.  They still worked, but just in case, I was keeping them for an emergency if it occurred.  Parked up, beer needed.

What.

A.

Day.

Bedtime now.  I've had enough.
