Hey thats a pretty good buy I recon.I bet its like one per dealership or something though!

Too many cars in stock? TBH I wouldn't buy one if it was the 'realistic' 1990 price (I don't remember a car of this size and bog standard spec going for 8K - Corsas went for 4 - 5k). Someone out there will not recognise the gimmick and buy one though.

Still 7 grand more than id pay for this piece of boring plastic

Can't we buy a new Clio at the price a 1990 Clio would be today? :)Alternatively, they should make a proper special edition anniversary. It'd have discoloured headlamp reflectors, a missing bit of trim on the rear quarter panel, dirty diesel stains under the filler cap and mismatched wheeltrims. That's a 1990 Clio!

Can you even get a 1990 Clio? I'm not sure i've ever seen a G-reg Clio.

I was thinking that, I'm sure they came out in 1991 from a Autocar magazine I had, I know that the fist ones were a H plate at least.

The Clio was introduced at the Paris Motor Show in June 1990 and sales in France and the rest of the continent began then, although sales in Britain did not begin until March 1991.

Source: Wikipedia So probably incorrect.

But I don't want to buy one - PLEASE DON'T MAKE ME!!!

Theres a H plate Clio near my college, Ill attempt a shot of it as they do seem rare. March 1991 issue of What Car doesnt have them listed.

Wow, 15" trims instead of 14" ones! Cars really have come a long way.

What's "brake assist" when it's at home?Is this a fancy name for "servo"??

Posted

I dunno, but it's probably more use than anti-submarine airbags.

Could we come up with things that the mk1 Clio has and the 2010 version doesn't?1 Pillars you can see round.

Mother in law had a J plate Clio that was passed onto my sister in law. It was a 1.4 Fidji. It was sold about 7 years ago for £500 and I've just checked doovla and it is still going!I drove it a few times and found it perfectly good for a little hatch. The enquiry is complete The vehicle details for J123 KDL are: Date of Liability 01 11 2010 Date of First Registration 27 03 1992 Year of Manufacture 1992 Cylinder Capacity (cc) 1390CC CO2 Emissions Not Available Fuel Type Petrol Export Marker Not Applicable Vehicle Status Licence Not Due Vehicle Colour BLUE Vehicle Type Approval

Sister had a couple, and they were cracking little things. Still harbour love for a yellow mark 1 1.2 rl. Gotta be pov spec. Something else the mark 1 has the new one doesnt - the ability to fit in a modern garage or one of the parking spaces at Lakeside. And I bet the older one is better on juice....

I'm sure they were cheaper than that... In 1992 I worked at a Renault Autopoint, I remember there was a promotion where the Super5 was £5555, the Clio £6666 and the R19 £7777 or am I losing my memory?

Isn't that when the car takes over control of the brakes when it thinks you are doing an emergency stop? I think my Transit has it, the brakes never do the same thing twice.

Brake assist is probably a servo, but Im sure some clueless morons may interpret it as 'Car sees red light and brakes for you'.

Just checked on Renault's website-

Correct -

Emergency Brake Assist(EBA)

An optimised braking system that gives a shorter braking distance of 5 to 9 metres.

Situation

Studies reveal that only 60% of drivers brake sufficiently hard for the ABS system to switch on in an emergency situation.

Solution

Emergency brake assist compensates for deficiencies in the driver’s action on the brake pedal. Drivers in emergency situations tend to apply insufficient pressure, or release braking pressure too soon. Emergency brake assist remedies both of these deficiencies. Other experimental studies show that emergency brake assist can reduce stopping distances by between 5 and 9 metres on dry roads (source: LAB).

How it works

The brake pedal activation velocity is measured and, if an emergency situation is detected, an amplifier raises the pressure in the brake circuit. This extra pressure is held until the driver releases the brake pedal. Under very sharp deceleration, the emergency warning lights switch on automatically.

Did you know?

LAB studies show that emergency brake assist would reduce the number of road injuries by 10% and save the lives of 3,000 people in Europe, including 300 pedestrians. Renault offers emergency brake assist across its entire range as standard.

Brake assist monitors your reaction time from coming off the accelerator to pushing the brake pedal and how hard/fast the brake pedal is getting pushed. From this information it thinks that you are in an emergency situation and takes over to apply the brakes at their absolute maximum. It seems quite frightening to me that the car can make such decisions, even more so with French electronics involved.

I more shocked by the fact that there are so many people who, in an emergency, get off the throttle and onto the brake really quickly but then don't push the pedal really really fucking hard as I, and other normal people, do.

I only push the brake pedal as hard as it needs to be pushed in order to stop me from hitting things, Just mashing the pedal is something I've not done for years. Then again, last weekend bringing the 'new' SD1 from Woking to Liverpool I only used the brakes about three times on the motorway. I'm not a heavy brakist.

3. lightness.850kg in 1991 1.4 spec.1090kg in 2010 1.2 specso, only a 28% increase. Some of that will be the bigger wheel trims.Edit: Power of those 1.2 engines has also increased by 29% so power to weight ratio is near identical. Now imagine how fuel efficient cars would be these days if they put these modern engines in the older bodyshells.
