Further adventures of car 48 : Cadwell Park, 25-28 April 2024.

Arrived at around 11pm on the Thursday after an uneventful 5 hour journey.

Camp 2CV.

Weather was COLD, reaching below zero on the Thursday night.

Friday was testing. George commented 'the steering feels funny'.

Oh..

Modifications made to the steering linkages and toe re-set.

Saturday : Qualifying.

Weather was pissy and windy. Not amazing. A couple of earlier Saxo and Superkart races red flagged.

This dolly shat its prop in the middle of Hall Bends leading to a spin.

Great to watch the 60's car qualifying.

Driver changes. While there was no need, we practiced a "Snet" 24 hour fast driver change. May as well use the experience.

George managed to qualify 9th with a decent 2:08 lap time, but smashed it out of the park with a 5th place finish on the Sunday. He's got the potential to be a very quick driver.

Next up, Croft.

Sorry, I'm really shit at keeping this up to date.  George scored 5th at Lydden Hill in June - best finish so far, for him and the car.

The workshop is brilliant; no more maintaining the car on Laurence's drive, though the downside is that Ruth no longer appears bearing tea and bacon sandwiches.

The front end has been completely stripped and rebuilt, including new 'Belgian arms' with better geometry to correct a camber issue with couldn't be adjusted out.  The steering rack needed a good service.  The gearbox was predictably fine, but got a checkover and new oil.

We've changed the colour scheme a bit...

...because there were just too damn many blue cars out there.  This - and the LED indicators in the headlamp - should make it easier to identify through the wind & rain at 2am on Sunday.

Final push tomorrow morning, then off to Norfolk!

I see no beige.

Team A.R.S.E is still awaiting a chance to apply our livery...

It's a very, very, VERY light shade of beige.  Homeopathically so.

The team is even more 'Autoshite Racing' this year!

As well as regular offenders @Talbot, @Crackers, @juular and @MrsJuular, we'll be joined by @Inspector Morose who definitely knows his way around a 2CV.

Myself and @juular will see you tonight/ early hours of tomorrow morning. No need to wait up!

I shall be there!  (At Oulton)

Wishing you all the best of fortune in the 24hour, I wish I had been able to be there this year, alas I was unable to be this time.

Next year it’s a priority.

Respect, don't know how you do it - I've barely been awake for 14 jours and am ready for bed.

7th now.  Track fully dry now after all the rain, so Neil posting impressive times.

Had to replace the fan after some over-enthusiastic* bump-drafting by George.  He's currently sleeping, but the dead spinner is waiting for him outside the motorhome...

Nearly 3:30am, so halfway through.

A minor issue was had with a rear shock.

It was dark when I went to sleep at around 0415.  When I woke at 0530, it was full light and we're still in 6th.  Excellent.

Coffee time.

Still 6th.

This has kept me going through night time baby wake-ups.

Huge respect. Endurance racing is punishing.

Sunrise over Snett. Finay some nice weather after a comprehensively wet first evening!

Our neighbouring team has managed an amazing bit of "turning 2D metal into 3D metal".

Well done team. Do love a bit of endurance racing. A proper test of man and machine.
