I think it was the Lada situation again, you had to go back and chop it against another to get anything like a proper price for it. I seem to remember that now you say. I think they struggled to sell them and they sat around taking up space on forecourt’s. I remember working on quite a lot of the big Laganza’s. They looked a bit bland but they always seemed really well kitted out. But compared to anything with similar equipment spec they were always worth next to nothing and nobody (except cost conscious old people!) wanted them. I haven’t actually seen one in many years now.

One of the unusual ways Daewoo tried to get around depreciation was by taking back all the cars on an M reg and replacing them with shiny new N reg examples. That way, they could practically set their own depreciation rate, plus fix any teething issues drivers experienced too. That said, it mustn't have worked too well. Don't think I've ever seen an M reg Daewoo outside of a few road tests from the era. Were they sold or scrapped?

They’d really have wanted an S Type but could only get the Leganza, it’d have done about 30,000 doing Sunday trips to the coast. After a few years they were practically unsaleable, high tax killed a lot of them off. danthecapriman 1

andrew e Posted May 21, 2024 Posted May 21, 2024 I forgot to add my mates dad had a nearly new plated one in the late 90’s in Basildon orange and white taxi colours, no worse than the cavilers from memory, I’m sure it was plated quite a while. This one used to be local old giffer special, been gone a few years but google says it made it to 2015. Sadly bungalow's being stretched every which way as we speak…

hammy Posted May 22, 2024 Author Posted May 22, 2024 Moved the green one out, as the ockshun ends Saturday. That has allowed me to immobilise the parts car now.

I'd say it's generally true of any 80's/90's vehicle fitted with ABS thats its probably the biggest liability thing to go wrong and write the car off, that K plate Mondeo on here was enough of a struggle and that was a very mainstream car back in its day! Nobody is making the parts any more, and increasingly fewer people are going to have the parts/equipment/technical info/inclination to overhaul obscure ABS modules as the cars get rarer Richard_FM 1
hammy Posted May 28, 2024 Author Posted May 28, 2024 Silver one is putting up a fight, but gradually wearing it down. Hopefully the green one leaves for it's new owner on Friday with the silver one following it shortly after on a scrap wagon. GrumpiusMaximus, mk2_craig, danthecapriman and 1 other 4

What actually happened to the silver scrap car? It looks like it went arse over tit and travelled a distance on its roof! Pity really given how few are left, but at least it’s provided parts.
AnthonyG Posted May 30, 2024 Posted May 30, 2024 I was about to ask what happened to it, I had assumed it had been in a scrapyard with something else on top of it. Is the resemblance of these to the Citroen Xantia purely a coincidence? Tenmil Socket 1
MantaGTE85 Posted May 30, 2024 Posted May 30, 2024 DVE must be the very last of the Esperos, being a June '97 car. I've certainly never noticed any R reg Esperos, if there is such a thing. And the grey one HLM had its first MOT at 15 years old with a very tiny 9000 miles. It still looks great.
GeordieInExile Posted May 31, 2024 Posted May 31, 2024 How good are these in relation to the Cavalier on which they're based?

It's screwed the passenger side A-pillar and roof. Shame as it was a 2.0 CDXI and very tidy car danthecapriman 1

There are a few R reg cars, but I've not seen one in years. I think DVE might have been a Kenning rental car when new. HLM was owned by Daewoo initially, and I've got the sales paperwork when it left them a year later. It's been generally well cared for but will need some work for a new test.
